referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow, I have an appointment to talk with a marketing expert.\u00a0 Someone who gets paid to say how to market a book so that people will find it and want to buy it.\u00a0 What are my expectations?\u00a0 Surprisingly, I\u2019m not expecting miracles.\u00a0 What I\u2019m hoping to do is learn what the limits and parameters are for this kind of service.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, what is the reach of this business?\u00a0 What is the specificity?\u00a0 I\u2019ve been led to believe by everything I\u2019ve read that Amazon and Google can target ads to someone based on what they want to buy right now.\u00a0 Well, okay so how much does it cost to target only those people?<\/p>\n<p>Another thing I\u2019m interested in is pricing.\u00a0 Obviously the lower the price of something the more people will be willing to buy it.\u00a0 So, there is probably an optimum price for maximizing profit.\u00a0 But what if you want to maximize the number of people who read your book?\u00a0 Is zero and option?\u00a0 And is some minimum price just as good?<\/p>\n<p>And I want to know if these experts are well-acquainted with right wing readers (my target audience).\u00a0 After all, I\u2019m not selling to the people who read \u201cA Handmaid\u2019s Tale\u201d or \u201cWoman on the Edge of Time.\u201d\u00a0 Those people would be rooting for my villains.\u00a0 So, I want to know how specific they can get with the audience that they are reaching as potential readers.<\/p>\n<p>Also, I want to know if they can tap into expert critical opinion to tell me ahead of time whether my story even has potential to interest a large audience or not.\u00a0 They might be able to convince me that I\u2019m attempting the impossible.\u00a0 That piece of information alone would be extremely valuable to me.\u00a0 I mean, sure, I\u2019m just like every author.\u00a0 I love my creation and think it worthy of an audience.\u00a0 But maybe I\u2019m very wrong.\u00a0 Knowing that ahead of time could save me a lot of money and pain.<\/p>\n<p>So, I\u2019ll spend tomorrow collecting my thoughts and writing down questions to ask the \u201cWizard.\u201d\u00a0 One thing I\u2019m interested in is how important a cover is.\u00a0 Sure, a glossy cover with a sniper on a building above an Antifa riot would really hammer home the story better than just a text but what is the actual difference in sales?\u00a0 Could I compensate by dropping the price to $0.99 for a few days or weeks to get word of mouth?\u00a0 After all aren\u2019t most books now e-books?\u00a0 Do people need a cover when they\u2019ll be reading the \u201cbook\u201d on a Kindle?<\/p>\n<p>And finally, I\u2019m intrigued by the idea of running a Kickstarter to try and drum up funds and give the project visibility before the book is even up for sale.\u00a0 I recently watched Larry Correia run a Kickstarter and he\u2019s gotten $250,000 in advance sales.\u00a0\u00a0 Now I\u2019m not kidding myself.\u00a0 He\u2019s got an enormous fan base already so there\u2019s no comparison but still, the \u201cGoFundMe\u201d site has high visibility for whomever uses it.\u00a0 So, I\u2019ll ask about that too (even though I think I know what the answer will be).<\/p>\n<p>So that\u2019s what my Thursday looks like.\u00a0 Maybe after tomorrow I\u2019ll have a new perspective on selling my book.\u00a0 Or maybe I\u2019ll be even more confused than ever.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tomorrow, I have an
