Well, what\u2019s to say today?\u00a0 I was talking to some family and we were discussing this and that and I said that I wanted to see \u201cProject Hail Mary.\u201d\u00a0 And some knew about it and some had heard a little bit.\u00a0 Well, I think I talked them into getting together and going to see it.\u00a0 Now I plan to see it this week with Camera Girl.\u00a0 She\u2019s not the biggest sff fan by any stretch of the imagination.\u00a0 When I brough her to see the original Star Wars film she was not particularly impressed.\u00a0 And come to think of it, she\u2019s never been impressed by any sci fi or fantasy movie (or book) I ever gave her.\u00a0 Well, I take that back.\u00a0 She read \u201cThe Hobbit\u201d back in 1975 and liked it.\u00a0 But that was it.\u00a0 When I told her to read the \u201cLord of the Rings,\u201d she laughed in my face.\u00a0 So, she may not be the most willing audience for this movie.\u00a0 But since one of the characters is a puppet I\u2019m guessing there may be an appeal there to her love of animals.\u00a0 So, I\u2019m going to see the same movie in the theater twice?\u00a0 I think this may be the first time I\u2019ve ever done that.\u00a0 Well, I\u2019m sure it won\u2019t kill me.<\/p>\n
The other thing I\u2019m doing next week is go see an accountant about how to pay my taxes on the royalties from my book.\u00a0 I have an inordinate fear of the Infernal Revenue Service.\u00a0 I think they\u2019re a malevolent force causing pain and suffering for ordinary people at every turn.\u00a0 So, I\u2019m going to find out what the process is for this kind of capital gain.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think I have to pay quarterly but you never know so I\u2019m not taking any chances.\u00a0 Also, I think there is a way to write off expenses like advertising and marketing so if I can find out whether it\u2019s worth it I may even break even on this whole experiment (maybe!!!).<\/p>\n
A friend was asking me about the sequel to the \u201cThe Sniper.\u201d\u00a0 He had particular questions about the back story for some of the characters like Connors and Cutter.\u00a0 I said I\u2019d love to tell him some of the details of their back stories but I still haven\u2019t made them up yet.\u00a0 I think he was a little shocked that these important facts didn\u2019t actually exist yet.\u00a0 Maybe even betrayed for investing in a story that was sort of a Potemkin Village.\u00a0 But I feel justified in pushing out the corners of my little universe as the spirit moves me.\u00a0 Although I will admit I\u2019ve decided to do some outlining of the world, at least from a 35,000-foot height.\u00a0 I need to decide what stories will grow out of the eucatastrophe I set off in the first book.\u00a0 I mean, you don\u2019t sink the White House, Capitol and Pentagon into the Earth\u2019s crust without taking advantage of the elbow room that provides for political and social upheaval on a grand scale.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
