So, I had some fun re-imagining \u201cTHEM!\u201d as a 2026 sci-fi reboot.\u00a0 Alright what\u2019s next?\u00a0 Well, John Carpenter beat me to the punch with \u201cThe Thing.\u201d\u00a0 That was a reboot that in many people\u2019s minds outdid the original (\u201cThe Thing from Another World\u201d).\u00a0 But a whole bunch of classic sci-fi movies have already been redone (The Day the Earth Stood Still, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Invaders from Mars, War of the Worlds).\u00a0 So maybe we don\u2019t need another reboot.<\/p>\n
As I said in my discussion of Weir\u2019s \u201cProject Hail Mary,\u201d what we really need are new movies.\u00a0 Sure, they\u2019re mostly just variations on the million science fiction stories that are already written but even small differences can freshen up old ideas.\u00a0 Instead of any more trash from the Star Wars industry why not give us some pulp?\u00a0 Burroughs or Doc Smith or Howard.\u00a0 Those stories were made to be put on the big screen (or the smaller one in my living room).\u00a0 And I read where they\u2019re working on bringing back Schwarzenegger as an older Conan.\u00a0 That would be perfect.\u00a0 A beat-up old Arnold playing a beat-up old Conan with the right writer and the right director could be the perfect swan song for him and a wonderful treat for us if they abandon all the woke crap and let Conan be the barbarian he\u2019s meant to be.<\/p>\n
And if we digress into fantasy, I wish they\u2019d try again to make a movie or a series out of the Dresden Files.\u00a0 Jim Butcher\u2019s series of books are some of the most entertaining and filmable stories in urban fantasy.\u00a0 Of course, I wish they\u2019d start by doing justice to Larry Correia\u2019s Monster Hunter series first.\u00a0 With the combination of interesting characters, vivid monsters and high caliber weaponry they would make a very exciting series of movies.\u00a0 But I suppose instead we\u2019ll get more nonsense like \u201cThe Rings of Power.\u201d<\/p>\n
But of course, what\u2019s really needed by both the larger movie audience and the film-makers\u2019 bottom line is a cable series based on Jake Barter\u2019s \u201cThe Sniper.\u201d\u00a0 The combination of economically but vividly drawn characters and remarkable plotting make this story the most cinematically perfect vehicle for a studio to reap the harvest of multi-billion-dollar profits.\u00a0 Joseph Boghadair is an iconic figure and the many fascinating sub-plots and characters will spawn a whole series of sequels and spin-offs that will explore the multi-faceted world that the author is creating.\u00a0 New technologies and industries are waiting for Paul Connors\u2019 empire to recover from the ravages of war and reap the benefits of the new political situation that Bogey\u2019s \u201cwar\u201d has created.\u00a0 And the political changes that will sweep across North America will change life on the whole planet as better ways for humans to cooperate and socialize and organize themselves politically emerge.<\/p>\n
I am toying with the idea of including some short stories in this \u201cworld\u201d I\u2019ve built and putting those out next as a short-term addition to the saga.\u00a0 That will allow me to push off in several directions at once before I commit to any one story for the next novel.\u00a0 Well, that\u2019s enough for now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
