The way some local \u201cleaders\u201d tell it, the drugstore chain is acting greedily, selfishly, or even criminally.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/beltway-confidential\/4568031\/chicago-drug-store-closure-case-study-leftist-failure\/\">\u201cWalgreens should be charged with first-degree corporate abandonment,\u201d thundered a local alderman. \u201cIt should be a crime, the way they\u2019re treating our elders. It should be a crime, the way they\u2019re treating our families.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/beltway-confidential\/4568031\/chicago-drug-store-closure-case-study-leftist-failure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This is complete nonsense, of course, but the asinine nature of his flailing is laid bare by Walgreens\u2019 reasons for closing its store in the Windy City\u2019s Chatham neighborhood. According to the local Fox affiliate, the corporation was losing more than $1 million annually at that location, driven by stunning levels of theft and exorbitant security costs<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, let\u2019s sum it up:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>16% of their merchandise is stolen per year.<\/li>\n<li>That equates to more than a million dollars in losses per year.<\/li>\n<li>They spent $400,000 in security for this one store<\/li>\n<li>Their employees were still subject to frequent physical attacks by the thieves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And then Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson characterized Walgreen\u2019s decision to shut the store as criminal abandonment.\u00a0 Wow, that\u2019s amazing.\u00a0 If I were the mayor of the third largest city in the United States and I discovered that a vital retail provider of drugs for my citizens was pulling out because my police force had failed to keep thieves and thugs in check at this location, I would move heaven and earth to make an example of that store and surround it with cops 24\/7 until the crooks gave up.\u00a0 But Brandon Johnson blames the people being robbed and assaulted by the mob that represents his true constituency.<\/p>\n<p>From one end of this country to the other all blue cities and states are devolving into something that more resembles third world, banana republic street chaos than the United States of America.\u00a0 But I now doubt that the voters in these jurisdictions will ever kick the Democrats out.\u00a0 Los Angeles is the current test case.\u00a0 Spencer Pratt is lambasting Mayor Karen Bass on the abysmal record she has accumulated over her term.\u00a0 Between the horror show that was the Palisades fires and the complete lack of assistance to the victims, to the enormous disgrace of the out-of-control homeless epidemic on the streets of Los Angeles, Pratt has been speaking out and posting advertisements mocking his opponent\u2019s ineptitude.<\/p>\n<p>But will it make any difference?\u00a0 California is a one-party state.\u00a0 It\u2019s owned by the state-workers\u2019 unions.\u00a0 Their pensions are the only important policies they care about and the Democrats have bought their votes with these funds.\u00a0 So, I expect nothing to change in California, New York and the rest of the blue states for as long as their states can fund those pensions.\u00a0 When the day comes that they run out of other people\u2019s money, there will be hell to pay.\u00a0 But the devil works for them so I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll pony up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The quote is the beginning of the linked article.\u00a0 It\u2019s worth a read. \u201cWalgreens is shuttering a location in Chicago, upsetting residents, and stirring fury<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[3457,2575],"class_list":["post-36902","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-current-events","tag-crime-in-blue-cities-and-states","tag-defund-the-police"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.4 -
