So, there are a lot of things going on.\u00a0 I reached 500 reads on Royal Road but out of those 500 reads not a single comment or review was left.\u00a0 And since I wanted to sign up for Kindle Unlimited, I had to shut down any sites that had e-books other than Amazon.\u00a0 So, I deleted \u201cThe Sniper\u201d from Royal Road and BookFunnel so that I could test out Kindle Unlimited for at least ninety days.\u00a0 And of course, I\u2019ve been checking Amazon to see how many KENP (Kindle Edition Normalized Pages) of the \u201cThe Sniper\u201d have been read.\u00a0 And, of course, a watched pot never boils.\u00a0 But I also wonder if Kindle Unlimited will lower the number of e-books I\u2019ll sell on KDP.\u00a0 And now I\u2019ll also have to figure out how to set up incentives and other come-ons that Amazon has thought up for the poor confused authors out there.<\/p>\n
I started reading \u201cDo Androids Dream of Electric Sheep\u201d today.\u00a0 So right from the git-go PKD\u2019s dystopia certainly has a lot of drugs to control the emotional state of its citizens.\u00a0 Also, Rick Deckard apparently has a wife that doesn\u2019t seem to like him at all.\u00a0 He also seems to have artificial sheep.\u00a0 So, this isn\u2019t exactly Blade Runner so far.\u00a0 But I\u2019m a patient man and I\u2019ll plow my way in hoping that Roy Baty shows up and offs the founder of the Tyrell Corporation and talks about attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.\u00a0 I just hope it\u2019s that cool.<\/p>\n
I had my weekly coffee walk zoom with the boys.\u00a0 One of them was inspired by my book and is now writing several short stories.\u00a0 Kudos to him.\u00a0 And we were talking about how the old firm has DEI\u2019d itself into a disaster.\u00a0 They chased out all the old white guys and now the DEI hires have had to hire them back as contractors because they don\u2019t know how the systems work.\u00a0 They waited so long to upgrade some systems that the hardware is now unavailable from the manufacturers and competency will be needed to replace it with currently available equipment.\u00a0 But unfortunately, these DEI hires are completely incompetent so \u2026 \u201ccontractors!\u201d\u00a0 I told the boys to drive a very hard bargain and make sure the hourly rate is ridiculously expensive.\u00a0 When the project shows up as a blinking red light on the C-Suite\u2019s monthly checklist of \u201cproblems\u201d it will be embarrassing and hilarious when they have to admit they don\u2019t know how their own systems are supposed to work.\u00a0 And that\u2019s not going to be easy to explain to the FDA.\u00a0 Being audited by the feds isn\u2019t fun under the best of circumstances.\u00a0 When you have to admit that product was thrown away due to out of spec conditions that\u2019s a nightmare.\u00a0 Well anyway.\u00a0 We laughed and laughed.\u00a0 The guy who got booted used to be a good guy.\u00a0 Then he became a true believer in DEI.\u00a0 After that he became intolerable and we all agreed that he got what he deserved.<\/p>\n
