First Stephen Colbert and now Scott Pelley?\u00a0 Has the whole of CBS gone topsy turvy?\u00a0 The insufferable Pelley has been fired for cause from 60 Minutes after verbally assaulting his new boss (Executive Producer Nick Bilton) and the editor-in-chief of CBS News (Bari Weiss) at Bilton\u2019s first staff meeting after taking over the news show.\u00a0 During the meeting Pelley said to Bilton, \u201cWhat qualifies you to be in this position?\u00a0 \u2026\u00a0 You have slender qualifications for this job.\u201d\u00a0 He also accused Weiss of \u201cmurdering\u201d 60 Minutes.<\/p>\n
And then a day later he got the termination letter from Bilton, \u201cYesterday, you hijacked my first meeting with staff to disparage me, my qualifications, and my intentions with remarkable incivility and contempt,\u201d He described Pelley\u2019s behavior in the meeting as a \u201cperformative display of hostility \u2014 enacted in front of the staff.\u00a0 \u2026\u00a0 Your antipathy to the future of the show has come through loud and clear. And I have heard you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pelley has been making accusations that Weiss ordered him \u201cto inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story\u201d and \u201cto include assertions that are unverified.\u201d\u00a0 He stated that \u201cIncompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alright, suppose Pelley was my favorite journalist.\u00a0 Would I then think he was right to say those things to his new boss?\u00a0 Of course not!\u00a0 Anyone who works for a large corporation knows that you don\u2019t call out your boss and especially not at a staff meeting and you definitely don\u2019t tell him he\u2019s unqualified for the job.\u00a0 You don\u2019t do it even if he is unqualified for the job.\u00a0 You can try to make your point of view known in a respectful and convincing way or you can keep quiet and send your resume out to the headhunters right after the meeting.\u00a0 But calling your new boss and his boss idiots or crooks is a very, very bad strategy.\u00a0 It will not only get you fired, it will get you black-balled in your industry.\u00a0 I guess Pelley thought he was bullet proof.\u00a0 I guess he wasn\u2019t.\u00a0 Bye Scott.<\/p>\n
So, what does all this mean?\u00a0 It sounds to me that Bari Weiss is making a decent attempt to turn CBS News into a news organization again instead of a propaganda machine for the Democrat party and the Left in general.\u00a0 I\u2019ve got to say I\u2019m stunned!\u00a0 What next?\u00a0 Will Donald Trump get an honest to goodness interview without the usual \u201cMr. President, are you still beating your wife?\u201d question?<\/p>\n
Well, even if nothing more gets done this is a spectacular result.\u00a0 Personally, I think they\u2019ve been hoping to trigger Pelley into something like this because ending his contract will save them many millions of dollars and their bloated budgets are probably the real focus of Sky Dance and their efforts to make Paramount profitable.\u00a0 Well, whatever the real reason my hope is it continues and accelerates.\u00a0 There is no shortage of insufferable journalists at CBS and firing another dozen or two can only make life in these here United States that much better.<\/p>\n
