Tomorrow Camera Girl and I are double booked for parties.\u00a0 We have a graduation party and a friend\u2019s family party.\u00a0 And they\u2019re both at about the same time.\u00a0 So, I suggested that we go to the graduation party for an hour or so and then head to the second one.\u00a0 Camera Girl spent a couple of days telling me why that was a stupid idea.\u00a0 And then she told me that we would split up and each go to only one party.<\/p>\n
So, then I suggested we start off going to separate parties but then I would come back and pick her up and both of us would go to the friend\u2019s party.\u00a0 I think she wanted to hit me.\u00a0 She shook her head and walked away.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think she understands optimization.<\/p>\n
You see if I show up at a party by myself everyone is going to want to know where she is and why I showed up without her.\u00a0 I\u2019m not the draw.\u00a0 She\u2019s much more interesting because she\u2019s telling stories about all the stupid things I do.\u00a0 And when she tells them they\u2019re funny.\u00a0 Now I can\u2019t tell stories about myself.\u00a0 It would sound stupid.\u00a0 I need a straight man to tell the story and then let me weave my defense.\u00a0 It would be like Costello asking \u201cwho\u2019s on first\u201d without Abbott.\u00a0 It\u2019s just not the same without the cross-talking.<\/p>\n
So today I checked my stats on Amazon.\u00a0 So far, \u201cThe Sniper\u201d has sold a total of 303 books (65 paperback copies and 238 e-books) and 3,657 pages on Kindle Unlimited.\u00a0 On Kindle Unlimited my book is about 210 pages long so 3,657 pages is about 17 copies.\u00a0 Not bad for about a month on Kindle Unlimited.\u00a0 But I may have to cancel the yacht.<\/p>\n
But the lack of fabulous wealth from my book sales has not dampened my enthusiasm for writing.\u00a0 In fact, I\u2019ve become much more excited about the sequel.\u00a0 And what has me most intrigued is not so much the plot or even the new and old characters.\u00a0 What I\u2019m interested in is injecting more dialog.\u00a0 Specifically, I want to get some of the characters to tell their stories.\u00a0 And I know that this is backward.\u00a0 The author is supposed to show the reader the story and not tell it. But storytelling within a story is an interesting technique that I\u2019d like to try.\u00a0 And I\u2019d like to introduce dialog between characters about politics, economic policy, religion, traditional family, artificial intelligence, the war between the sexes, energy policy, the future of the human race, space exploration and a million other things.<\/p>\n
Of course, I\u2019ll have to be careful I don\u2019t drown out the action under such a heavy soaking of blather but I think it\u2019s time for my world to start exhibiting brains and not just marksmanship.\u00a0 One thing I haven\u2019t worked out yet is whether I get Connors and Grace to go out on a date.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been bouncing some stuff off of Camera Girl but I still don\u2019t know whether any of it makes sense.\u00a0 Oh well, the only way to find out is to start writing and see where it goes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
