{"id":37893,"date":"2026-08-22T05:00:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T09:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/?p=37893"},"modified":"2026-08-21T22:58:39","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T02:58:39","slug":"first-impressions-of-the-film-project-hail-mary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orionscoldfire.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/22\/first-impressions-of-the-film-project-hail-mary\/","title":{"rendered":"First Impressions of the Film \u201cProject Hail Mary\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, we went over to see the grandkids and watch \u201cProject Hail Mary.\u201d\u00a0 I read the book a few months ago and I\u2019d been waiting to see it with them but everyone has been so busy this summer we just never had a chance.\u00a0 But with school starting in Dunwich next week, I made a point of setting up the visit.<\/p>\n<p>So, we sat down surrounded by all the kids and all the dogs and up went the curtain (metaphorically speaking).\u00a0 Well, it was pretty good.\u00a0 Of course, a movie couldn\u2019t spend the time that the author Andy Weir lavished on the technical details of the astro-phage biology or the star ship that it fueled.\u00a0 And neither could it explain the project to selectively breed taumoeba to survive in Venus\u2019s atmosphere and several other technical details that fill out the story.\u00a0 But the movie does a good job of fleshing out Ryland Grace and detail the friendship that develops between him and the Eridian alien that he names Rocky.\u00a0 And in fact, it more than matches the book\u2019s description.\u00a0 It adds a good amount of comical interplay between the human and the alien.<\/p>\n<p>I intend to do a full review of the movie soon but I just wanted to give a few impressions tonight.\u00a0 And since it\u2019s so late I\u2019ll leave it here.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good movie.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, we went over to see the grandkids and watch \u201cProject Hail Mary.\u201d\u00a0 I read the book a few months ago and I\u2019d been waiting<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[239,237,4,243],"tags":[5167,5168],"class_list":["post-37893","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-movie-reviews","category-reviews","category-sff","category-sff-movie-reviews","tag-andy-weir","tag-project-hail-mary"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.4 -
