Today I was diligent and did my sequel work from 8:30am to 11am so life is good and I have an easy assignment for a post today.\u00a0 Camera Girl and I went out to the movies yesterday.\u00a0 Of course, because we\u2019re ancient we went to the 10:45 am showing and the theater on a Tuesday morning was virtually empty.\u00a0 We went to see \u201cRunner\u201d with Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson.\u00a0 Ritchson is the actor who plays Reacher in the Amazon series.\u00a0 The plot has Ritchson as a courier who handles \u201cspecial\u201d deliveries.\u00a0 He is supposed to deliver Owen Wilson and a transplant liver to a hospital where a little girl is on death\u2019s door.\u00a0 But there is also a drug cartel boss who wants the liver for his mother.\u00a0 So, we get two hours of chase scenes, shootouts and fights culminating at the hospital where the little girl is waiting.\u00a0 And it wouldn\u2019t qualify as a spoiler if I tell you how it all ends.\u00a0 But I won\u2019t.<\/p>\n
It was made by Angel Studios and I won\u2019t say that it is a much lower quality than a big studio production but there\u2019s a kind of \u201cover the top\u201d aspect to some of the scenes.\u00a0 I would say generically, it\u2019s an action\/chase movie where the action is dialed up to eleven and stays there.\u00a0 The fight scenes and the chase scenes go on and on seemingly for the whole movie.\u00a0 So, if you have a limited tolerance for these scenes this will strain your patience.\u00a0 As far as the acting, Ritchson does a workmanlike job of his part which is quite similar to the Reacher character.\u00a0 Owen Wilson plays his usual Owen Wilson persona.\u00a0 Meaning he\u2019s a quirky affable, loquacious man who drives Ritchson\u2019s strong, silent character insane with his endless banter.\u00a0 The bad guys are everything you would want for the cartoon villains and cars, trucks and anything available is crashed, burned or blown up as needed.<\/p>\n
Alright, I\u2019ve said enough.\u00a0 This movie is a silly action\/adventure\/comedy\/buddy movie.\u00a0 Does it work?\u00a0 Mostly.\u00a0 Would I recommend it?\u00a0 Well, I\u2019d have to qualify if by saying if you like Owen Wilson and you like watching Alan Ritchson doing his incredible hulk imitation then yes, you\u2019ll enjoy this.\u00a0 If you\u2019re a big fan of action movies you also might like it.\u00a0 Otherwise maybe it might be too over the top for you.<\/p>\n
