Regular readers know I\u2019m a fan of Tyler Childers.\u00a0 He\u2019s a country singer-songwriter from Eastern Kentucky and he combines interesting vocals, his acoustic guitar playing, an excellent mix of country instrumental accompanists with his very creative lyrics.\u00a0 I especially enjoy his ballads, a stand out being \u201cBanded Clovis\u201d on his \u201cPurgatory\u201d album.<\/p>\n

The present review is of a live album from 2013.\u00a0 The eight songs include two that were on other albums, namely \u201cWhitehouse Road\u201d from Purgatory and \u201cBottles and Bibles\u201d from the album of the same name.\u00a0 Listening to some of the other songs I would say you can tell that they come from an earlier period of his song-writing career.\u00a0 They are simpler and less ambitious in terms of imagery and effect.\u00a0 But they\u2019re good and I take them as an excellent addition to my collection.\u00a0 Interestingly two of the songs were written by other artists, \u201cRock Salt and Nails\u201d by Bruce Utah Phillips and \u201cComing Down\u201d by John R. Miller.\u00a0 Now I guess I\u2019ll be forced to look up their stuff.\u00a0 How I suffer for my art.<\/p>\n

Anyway, if you like Tyler Childers\u2019 other stuff you\u2019ll almost definitely like this live album.\u00a0 Highly recommended.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
