Gart Williams is a New York advertising executive who hates his job, is despised by his rapacious wife and wants desperately to escape from his torturous life.\u00a0 When first we meet him, he is in a sales meeting where his boss belittles him for not preventing his prot\u00e9g\u00e9 from quitting and stealing away a big account.\u00a0 This fat repulsive jerk just keeps haranguing him to push, push, push.\u00a0 Push, push, push.\u00a0 Push, push, push.\u00a0 Williams finally screams at his boss to shut his mouth and storms out of the room.<\/p>\n
While he\u2019s sitting in the commuter rail car on the way home to Connecticut, he shuts the window shade to shut out the swirling snow that mimics the cold despair he feels.\u00a0 He falls asleep and he is awakened by the conductor calling a stop at Willoughby.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When he looks up, he sees sunlight streaming in and realizes it\u2019s a summer day.\u00a0 We can see that the train is now an antique one and the conductor is dressed from an earlier era.\u00a0 Williams looks out the window and sees an idyllic turn of 19th<\/sup> century town with little boys heading to the fishing hole with their poles and citizens walking leisurely around their town.\u00a0 As the train leaves Willoughby Williams wakes up and realizes he dreamed of Willoughby.\u00a0 When he gets home his wife belittles him for being an unambitious loser.\u00a0 He tells her about Willoughby and her reaction is that she was the fool for marrying a man whose ambition was to be a grown-up Huckleberry Finn.<\/p>\n The next day he sees Willoughby on the way to work but once again wakes up before he can get off the train.\u00a0 He has another horrific day at work and is determined that on the way home he will get off at Willoughby.\u00a0 He falls asleep and this time he gets off the train at Willoughby.\u00a0 He talks to the inhabitants and feels like he has found his way home.<\/p>\n The scene changes to the snowy New England landscape near the train tracks and we see the body of Gart Williams lying in the snow.\u00a0 The conductor says that Williams shouted that he had to get off and he jumped off the train while it was in route.\u00a0 The Doctor says that Williams must have been killed instantly.\u00a0 When we see the back of the Funeral Parlor\u2019s hearse picking him up the name reads Willoughby and Sons.<\/p>\n Well.\u00a0 So, we\u2019ve already seen the nostalgia for the simpler, happier time before (Episode 5, Walking Distance).\u00a0 But in this one we are presented with the aftermath of this choice, violent death.\u00a0 Well, based on Mr. Williams lifestyle I think he chose wisely.\u00a0 Now, what about my choice?\u00a0 C+.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Gart Williams is a New York advertising executive who hates his job, is despised by his rapacious wife and wants desperately to escape from his<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[237,4,244,240,1661],"tags":[1741,38,1355,1194,44,309,265,1691,154,1692,838],"class_list":["post-6215","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-reviews","category-sff","category-sff-tv-reviews","category-tv-reviews","category-twilight-zone","tag-a-stop-at-willoughby","tag-review","tag-reviews","tag-rod-serling","tag-sci-fi","tag-sci-fi-tv-review","tag-science-fiction","tag-sff-tv-show-reviews","tag-tv-review","tag-tv-reviews","tag-twilight-zone"],"yoast_head":"\n
