So, I work with some guys.\u00a0 They\u2019re regular guys.\u00a0 Most of them are about my age and mostly share my point of view on the direction the country is moving and whom they want to win in November.\u00a0 Every workday morning, we trek down the incredibly long corridor of our corporate rat\u2019s maze to the polished stainless counters of the company cafeteria where we get our free coffee.\u00a0 Not all drink this brew.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always described the taste as a combination of battery acid and pencil shavings so I only make the daily journey for the camaraderie and exercise.<\/p>\n
Over the last few months I have noted that two reactions have set in with this group.<\/p>\n
One group is resigned to a Clinton victory.\u00a0 I have been unable to budge them into hope.\u00a0 The only good of this is the $20 bet (that we\u2019ve dubbed a \u201ctubman\u201d) I have going with one of them.<\/p>\n
The other group, of which I am a member, sees the possibility of a Trump victory.\u00a0 Some limit their hope to this victory.\u00a0 Nakedly apparent in their hope is the fear that they\u2019re wrong.\u00a0 Wrinkled brows are there during every bull session.\u00a0 Hope is a thin veneer and comfort is slight.<\/p>\n
But then there\u2019s me.\u00a0 I am calm.\u00a0 I have finally faced my demons.\u00a0 I have admitted to myself that the United States aren\u2019t.\u00a0 I now know that there are at least two (and probably several) distinct groups occupying the geographic territory known as the USA.<\/p>\n
One of those groups was the one I thought was the US.\u00a0 These are people who believed in all the traditions and values that until sixty years ago defined the way of life of almost all Americans.\u00a0 Another of these groups is the progressives.\u00a0 They believe the opposite.\u00a0 Until recently I believed these people were mostly good hearted people who were mistaken as to the results of the policies they espoused.\u00a0 I did not think that they were intent on destroying the traditional ways of life.\u00a0 I now know I was wrong.\u00a0 These people are intent on destroying everything that I believe is good in this world.\u00a0 They want to put an end to the traditional family.\u00a0 They want to outlaw the normal relations between men and women.\u00a0 They are working to replace parental rights with state control of all aspects of child-rearing.\u00a0 They desire to undermine all institutions that compete with the state bureaucracy.\u00a0 And they want to eliminate the ability of people to oppose the state.<\/p>\n
I could go on and on (and one future post I will) but suffice it to say these people are neither friends, allies or even countrymen.\u00a0 They are the reason the Unites States has ceased to exist.<\/p>\n
So, there I am.\u00a0 I admit the US is gone.\u00a0 I don\u2019t have to worry whether the next president will maintain and strengthen the laws and institutions.\u00a0 He won\u2019t.\u00a0 We\u2019ll continue down the slope to Sodom.\u00a0 My only responsibility is to identify the course of action that I will follow to minimize the damage to myself, my family and my friends.\u00a0 This will involve subterfuge, dissemblance and devious tactics.\u00a0 But once you recognize your opponents as such, it\u2019s no longer necessary to treat them honorably.\u00a0 And so, the tension about the fate of the country is gone.\u00a0 And the worry goes away.\u00a0 It\u2019s quite liberating and almost fun.\u00a0 It\u2019s much easier to be the pirate than the preacher.<\/p>\n
And that is what I\u2019ve been telling the Coffee Walk Bunch.\u00a0 It\u2019s sort of the \u201cdon\u2019t worry be happy\u201d line.\u00a0 It\u2019s actually quite annoying to the folks worrying.\u00a0 But I come by it legitimately.\u00a0 You see I\u2019ve been sweating all the elections and progressive changes since Richard Nixon was in office.\u00a0 I\u2019ve finally seen the light and I\u2019ll wait for these poor souls to see it too.<\/p>\n
So now I can look forward to the Trumpocalypse or the Clinton Catastrophe with equal equanimity and even wry amusement.\u00a0 Whichever way it goes I hope it involves at least a Page 6 babe and possibly a cover on the Enquirer.\u00a0 But either way the Coffee Walk Bunch will have plenty to talk about next week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
