The dust has begun to settle and maybe there are a few worthwhile observations to make.\u00a0 So, let me ramble a bit here and let\u2019s see if anything substantive emerges.<\/p>\n
One small trend emerged.\u00a0 Several very different kinds of people on our side of the divide independently expressed that people responsible for the Russia-gate farce need to be brought to justice and punished.\u00a0 And they were shooting pretty high. \u00a0Several wanted Obama convicted.\u00a0 I volunteered that I thought the latter possibility highly unlikely.\u00a0 I also said that to my way of thinking if a vindictive bastard like Trump didn\u2019t go looking for payback it meant only one of two things.\u00a0 The first choice was that he had made a political calculation that retribution would hurt his chances of re-election.\u00a0 The other possibility is that he can\u2019t because Barr won\u2019t let it happen.\u00a0 My thought is that Barr is the firewall and Mueller only ended the investigation because it was understood that Barr would drop the curtain on the whole Russia-gate affair and all the players would be allowed to shuffle off to their next appointed posts.\u00a0 When I told this to my friends one of them said well then Trump can fire Barr and put in his own man.\u00a0 And I said that maybe Mitch McConnell won\u2019t allow that to happen.\u00a0 And that made him quiet.<\/p>\n
The other thing that occurs to me about where we are is that Trump is in an excellent position to start some trouble.\u00a0 My thought is he should tackle the Tech giants.\u00a0 Declaring Google, Facebook and Amazon monopolies should be simple.\u00a0 After all they are!\u00a0 Smashing those companies would be good for American business, civil liberties and for the Right.\u00a0 Even the Democrats are smart enough to know that these companies aren\u2019t popular and if Trump crushes them, he can make sure we benefit from the slaughter.<\/p>\n
And it\u2019s time he started building some of that wall.\u00a0 Even if it\u2019s just a symbolic portion.\u00a0 He needs to use that three billion and them come back and say he needs more.\u00a0 That\u2019s what he has to run on.\u00a0 And he has to start moving on the rest of his agenda.\u00a0 Even if it means using the pen and the phone.\u00a0 And he needs to start calling out lunatics like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez when she starts talking about spending hundreds of trillions of dollars for rainbows and unicorns.\u00a0 It\u2019ll be popular and it will be hilarious.<\/p>\n
So, let\u2019s see what my ramblings come to.<\/p>\n
If the DOJ doesn\u2019t go after the Russia-gate swamp creatures then in my estimation Barr is the stopper that ends the war without our side getting a chance to punch back.\u00a0 Or Trump doesn\u2019t think it\u2019s wise.\u00a0 But that seems less likely to me.<\/p>\n
Trump has a good window this year to do some substantive things like go after the Tech Giants and build the Wall.\u00a0 If he takes no initiative then he would seem to be a spent force and that would be very bad for our side.<\/p>\n
So, these are the two things to look at in the next few months.\u00a0 I\u2019ll check back from time to time to see how this looks in the light of later developments.\u00a0 But these are my thoughts on where we are and how we\u2019ll know where we are headed.<\/p>\n
