I confess I am mystified by Germany and the rest of Europe’s attitude.
They earnestly believe that burning fossil fuels will warm the planet and lead to global Armageddon. Well, unless those fossil fuels come from Russia. Then it is somehow OK.
Nuclear power plants produce zero CO2 and, if done right, are the safest of all power generation methods. (The US nuclear fleet has a perfect safety record going back over 50 years.) Oh, but Japan had an Earthquake followed by a tsunami which caused the pumps to fail at a nuclear plant leading to (Checks notes) zero deaths?
Never mind the fact that Germany is not on an ocean and is not subject to tsunamis, they decided to shut down all of their nuclear plants.
So they put all of their resources into Chinese made solar panels and windmills. Again, the fact that these items are only made by burning tons of fossil fuels (most far dirtier than European fossil fuels) is somehow ok.
They did this knowing that there was no way these “Green” methods could serve their needs. I guess the plan was to make up the difference with that “Green” Russian natural gas which they would still be happily buying if Vlad hadn’t had the bad taste to invade Ukraine.
Tucker is right. They will freeze. The question is – how many governments will fall>
Hopefully all of them. That creed needs to fail, and hard. Meanwhile, in the US West the following things have been in the news in the past week: California announces all new cars and trucks must be EV’s in 10 years California announces that, because of the electricity shortage, people should not charge their EV’s. Califirnia makes plans to remove their last nuclear plant from operation, this plant represents 8% of the total generating capacity of the state and 40% of the state’s non- CO2 generating capacity. Nevada-Google announced that they would build a geothermal electric plant to power a… Read more »
California is the test case. They’ve pulled out all the stops. It will be interesting to see if the locals continue to support the program when every car in the state is trying to get powered at the same time via wind power and it doesn’t get the job done. Then again you can get sheep to do just about anything. What’s the expression, “lambs to the slaughter?”
Or lemmings, same principle.
Yeah, I like your lemming image better. It’s closer to the Dems. There’s nothing of the innocent lamb about them.
The next step I expect in the process will address the slow recharge times for EVs. In true “Share the Misery” style, I expect an Imperial Decree for Emperor Newsom requiring the flow rate of gasoline pumps be reduced to where it will take as long to fill your tank as it takes to charge an EV battery.
Ed, I think they’ll take a more direct approach. They’ll pile fees on the filling stations until only the biggest dealers will still be able to stay in business and then let taxes on gasoline do the rest. Really only the rich will have cars. Everyone else will use the subway.
