That was the Sony 90mm macro. But it was taken from pretty far away and then very heavily cropped. I was just walking around when this rabbit appeared near one of the gardens. This year I’ll set up my long zoom (200-600) and get a nice close-up of Bugs.
I’ve got a 90 macro, it’s a stellar performer. But I’ve found that it’s happier relatively close up. I don’t have anything even close to 600mm but my 70-300mm does pretty well when backed off to around 250mm for shot like that. Especially with my A7RII where I can crop in.
I agree. The 90 shines for macro and portraits. But that is what I walk around with so that is what I had when that rabbit showed up. And as they say the best lens (and camera) is the one you have when you need it.
I think that statement is a variation of the most asked concealed gun question, “what is the best carry pistol?” Answer: the one you are most likely to have with you.
And both are related to that other famous statement about the perfect being the enemy of the good. And finally a very wise but very evil man once told me, in a very thick German accent that, “Sometimes good enough is good enough.”
What lens are you using for these shots? Do you have a macro in the 100mm range?
