Have you seen this review on the LA-EA 5? It seems to conclude that while the adaptor isn’t the magic bullet, it is well worth while. With some lenses anyway. I’d like to buy one and then search for Zeiss A mount glass for (hopefully) pennies on the dollar. Though, per the review, they may or may not track, but, lord what image quality!
Tom, I’m trading in my LA-EA3 and LA-EA4 to partially pay for the LA-EA5. As you say, it won’t give us modern autofocus speed but it will allow us to use our favorite old lenses in a reasonable way. I was just recently looking at shots I took with the 135 f1.8 on the A-850 and those files are great. Why shouldn’t I use that lens again?
“Why shouldn’t I use that lens again?” Indeed It looks as if the 5’s can be had from reliable dealers for $228. That’s a LOT less than I paid for my much inferior LA EA 4 and is a piddling amount compared to the worth of the lenses it makes available. It would save me $1200-$1300 in not having to replace my 70-300G A mount lens. I used that lens maybe 15% of the time on my old A850 body but shots taken with that lens seem to make up 40%+ of the real “keeper” shots. I’ve tried shooting the… Read more »
Here’s another good site. It lists every Sony A mount lens and shows functionality with the LA-EA 5. The A7IV page doesn’t exist yet but it will be at least equally functional as the A7III. LA-EA5 – Accessories Compatibility Information (sony.co.jp)
