The First Selectman was miffed about something. Maybe his shadow appeared a little too portly or his reflection in a dank lake was a little too unflattering. Whatever it was he attempted to swallow Earth’s star. Luckily he’s not the Elder God he used to be. All he got was a nasty burn around his mouth tentacles, a case of butthurt and a dose of reality.
I collected this shot at the moment of maximum effort.

I drove an hour and got to see totality west of Cincinnati. I had welding goggles and it was great. Since the next comes in 40 odd years I doubt I’ll see it, as I likely won’t see Halley’s Comet again, either. I have witnessed a leap century in 2000. Next one due in 2400. I saw live on TV men stepping on the moon after taking my first airline ride on a prop driven Super Constellation before Kennedy was elected. It’s been an interesting life so far.
At the point of totality were you able to see the stars? Where I was the eclipse was in the low 90’s of percent coverage of the sun’s disk. But for all intents and purposes it was daylight. Sure it was subdued and eerily different but the sky was not black.
Next time, He do better!
I don’t know. The old boy is starting to show his antediluvian age. Back in his salad days swallowing up a village or two of Yankees was good clean fun. But now, after just a roomful of Dunwhichians the poor old geezer runs for the Alka-Seltzer and can barely stagger into bed. And his ichor-pressure has been trending up for millennia. He’s definitely lost a step.
Alas, He is what He eats.
Luckily his son Cthulhu II (or as his family calls him “Cthulhooey” or “Hooey” for short) is now a fully mature Great Old One and ready to take his place in Dunwich social and political life. Hooey is interested in advancing a new Great Old One/human dynamic. For him it’s not about laying down the law and eating anyone who complains. It’s engaging humans in dialog and trying to reach consensus. Of course failing consensus, eating everyone is still on the table so to speak. But the dialog is definitely part of the process.
