I was in insanely good shape when in the Marines but I was in my 20’s. I’ve always been physically active, much more than average but one of the peaks of fitness that occurred in my life was between the ages of 50-65 when I was riding a road bicycle several thousand miles a year at minimum. I was one of those guys you see out just in the middle of nowhere just pedaling like he**. Father Time comes for all of us sooner or later. Reasonable exercise allows us to keep some of what we had for as long as we can. But I can now here the footsteps behind me. One day I’ll get the tap on the shoulder. So be it.
I’m 77 and have quit assuming I’ll see the next presidential election. I have so few of my lifelong friends still around but the good news is I’ve gotten to the point that I’m sorta okay with it. Right now, the only real downside would be my responsibility to the mostly feral cat colony that I’ve been maintaining in the woods around my house in farm country. I feed them twice a day, have been spaying and neutering as I can, medical care when obviously necessary. I bring some into the house. Now that my child and her children on… Read more »
Our pets become family especially as we get older. We’ve got two dogs that Camera Girl treats like babies and she has a crow named Moe that has become acclimated to her presence. And now there are two female turkeys and their offspring that she’s begun feeding on a regular basis. Soon the local foxes and bobcats will join the club. At that point I’m gonna start charging them for room and board.
