Funny enough, they can be mutually exclusive and both be right, according to how it was explained to me by a math PhD. It seems that at the highest levels, math is right next to alchemy.
And past the event horizon of black holes, all mathematics and laws of physics break down.
We really know so little.
But look at the wonderful possibilities for combining hard science fiction with fantasy.
They have one thing in common: they both imply predictions that are provable.
General relativity was an elegant concept that has year after year proven its superiority to Newtonian physics. Quantum mechanics with special mention of the uncertainty principle was a bucket of icy cold water down the back of early 20th century physicists everywhere. Einstein never seemed to recover from it. Relativity told us how to look at the universe. Quantum mechanics seems to be telling us not to look too closely.
