My wife was a gem. She had a very few girlfriends and she loved my mom and sister (she was an orphan). She was not too fond of most women, though. She saw too many of the witches trying to poach other women’s husbands or cheating on their own as soon as the men deployed. They used to have “deployment parties” the first Saturday after their men deployed. It was really bad for the sailors. You bring up an excellent point. A happily married man should acknowledge that he has somehow found himself in one of the most advantageous relationships that humans are capable of. I often reflect that incredible good luck was responsible for my own case. I’d go as far as saying it was fate.
