04DEC2018 – Quote of the Day

It’s Ayn Rand week at the Quote of the Day.  Rand has fallen seriously out of fashion due to libertarianism’s current unpopularity.  But I think she has made several valuable points.  See what you think.

“America’s founding ideal was the principle of individual rights. Nothing more-and nothing less. The rest-everything that America achieved, everything she became, everything ‘noble and just,’ and heroic, and great, and unprecedented in human history-was the logical consequence of fidelity to that one principle.”

“The majority of those who are loosely identified by the term ‘liberals’ are afraid to let themselves discover that what they advocate is statism. They want to keep all the advantages and effects of capitalism, while destroying the cause, and they want to establish statism without its necessary effects. They do not want to know or to admit that they are the champions of dictatorship and slavery.”

It’s Ayn Rand week at the Quote of the Day.  Rand has fallen seriously out of fashion due to libertarianism’s current unpopularity.  But I think she has made several valuable points.  See what you think.

“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for me to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed or enforced nor objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt.”
