Without fear there is no courage. For me to cross a city street is not courageous as I do not fear to do so. However, for someone afflicted with agyrophobia (I have known one such person) to cross a busy street would be like asking me to run naked through a cage of starving tigers while smeared in bacon grease. For most people courage has become almost a theoretical concept. We’re so insulated from physical danger that we almost don’t remember what it’s like to be mortally afraid. That probably will come back to bite us in the foreseeable future.
