I’m not much of a sociologist but the outline sounds plausible. The cycle runs for 80 – 90 years and supposedly would describe the last two hundred and fifty years of American history if the author is to be believed. Just throwing it out there if you like that sort of thing.

I started reading _The Fourth Turning_ last year, photog, and while it was fascinating, my busy everyday life intruded. I’ll have to pick it back up. The more I study history, the more I do see certain rhythms or patterns. As Mark Twain said, “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it does rhyme.” Lots of truth to that.

Basically, he claims that by the fourth turning we are breaking down the social order in anticipation of the first turning when we rebuild it into something new in reaction to some new crisis. It’s a relatively vague description but as a general model it may be close to what we are seeing. What it doesn’t describe is how external forces could disrupt any rebuilding.
