I guess since the Founding Fathers modelled much of our government after the Romans it’s not too surprising that our society is decaying in a very similar manner to theirs. But it’s still eerie to read accounts of their events and troubles and see almost perfect analogies to ours. When I read Gibbon’s, “Decline and Fall” it was a depressing slog as the same pathology just kept repeating itself and getting worse over the course of centuries.
