Winter Solstice. The Days are Getting Longer

How’s that for optimism!

Well anyway, there’s no snow on the ground and I have a good supply of Christmas cookies thanks to Camera Girl’s indomitable kitchen work ethic.

Regardless of the disorienting weirdness engulfing the world around us we must try to enjoy the holiday season. And I will. So I think I’ll extend myself this morning and try to check off something from my to-do list. Where is that list anyway?

Icebox mincemeat cookies, oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip. The first is absolutely great with hot coffee or tea. Paternal granda made chocolate haystack cookies and various fudges. Maternal grandma made spice cake and Texas fudge cake. Mom’s sister made the best Getman chocolate cake. Dad’s sister made snickerdoodles. My first cousin made jelly center cookies and peanut butter thumbprint cookies with a Hershy’s kiss. Today we’ll have turkey, ham, Ocean Spray jellied cranberry sauce, smashed potatoes with Amish butter, baked sweet potatoes, bread dressing, cornbread dressing, oysters, and gravy.
