Well, there’s an accelerating trend.
This guy Robert Gascoyne-Cecil (aka Lord Salisbury) lived from 1830 to 1903 and so had a front row seat to the conversion of England from an aristocracy to a representative democracy. And to say he wasn’t thrilled with it is an understatement. He’s kind of the patron saint of the conservative movement in our time from what I can read of his opinions.
