Don’t speak too soon. Over the next two weeks there will be three more very similar sunflower photos and one of the whole field. I made a trip in the summer to a sunflower field and I can’t resist the bright color.

My maternal grandfather grew sunflowers in his garden. He collected the heads and hung them to dry. In the winter, he’d hang a head on a nail on the shed for the birds to eat. When it was all gone, he’d hang up another . He kept it up all winter and into the early spring
Whenever I grow a sunflower patch I leave them up for the birds but eventually they topple. And at that point the field mice probably eat as many as the birds get. Sounds like your grandfather knew a little bit more than I do about bird feeding. I’ll adopt his method.
