“Tall, aren’t you?” she said.
“I didn’t mean to be.”
Her eyes rounded. She was puzzled. She was thinking. I could see, even on that short acquaintance, that thinking was always going to be a bother to her.”
―Raymond Chandler (quote from The Big Sleep)
Just saw this for the first time last week. Great movie!
Glad you like it. I’ve got a few more quotes. They’re from the book which differs a little from the movie. In the movie Carmen says, “You’re not very tall.” And Marlowe says “I try to be.” And that fits Bogey who was 5′ 9″. Have you seen the Maltese Falcon?
Long time ago. But Mrs. Chemist hasn’t so I’ve added it to the list.
Great. I’m always interested to see what other folks think. Plus I’m always looking for a recommendation on something good I haven’t seen.
If you haven’t seen Charade, starring Cary Grant – you need to. The dialog and timing are excellent.
I liked “Knives out” although I’ve been told it was anti-America propaganda. I’m afraid I missed that. Besides, seeing Daniel Craig as a Southern Gentleman is a hoot!
Movies to miss:
First man. It seems like a movie written by a disgruntled ex-wife.
Mission to Mars. Really bad plot, dialog and special effects.
You know, surprisingly, I think I’ve somehow never seen Charade. Reading the description it sounds like Camera Girl and I will be putting it on our Netflix – DVD queue. I’ll give Knives Out a try. Craig’s pretty good. I’ll risk the subversive plot.
Thanks.
