Dr. Oz is the celebrity candidate that has been endorsed by Donald Trump and he is very narrowly ahead. Katy Barnette is a black military veteran with a pro-life personal story who has been endorsed by the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List.
Trump’s endorsement has gotten Oz his narrow lead but Oz being a Hollywood celebrity has baggage that doesn’t endear him to the New Right. It’s a toss of the coin as to who will win. But this leaves the larger question. Are Donald Trump’s endorsements reliable conservatives? After all, he endorsed Mitt Romney four years ago and could there be a worse RINO? Possibly he’s grown more careful.
But this showcases an ongoing problem. Vetting politicians needs a more rigorous procedure than what currently passes for it.
“Oz, a celebrity doctor and former President Donald Trump’s endorsee, took the top spot in the survey, with 24.5% saying they would vote for him if the primary were held that day. Military veteran Barnette came in second with 23.2%, and McCormick, a former U.S. Treasury official, was third with 21.6%.
Anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List has endorsed Kathy Barnette in the GOP Senate race in Pennsylvania over former President Trump’s endorsement of Dr. Mehmet Oz. Barnette has surged in the polls in recent weeks, jumping from a low fifth place last month, with a RealClearPolitics average of 8.8%, to now being neck and neck with the most high-profile candidates.””

I have mixed feelings on Trump endorsing Romney… people make mistakes and then learn they are mistakes later. I wonder how many of us voted Romney/Ryan a few years ago? I know I did. It is probably a lesser mistake than had I voted the other way, but who knows now? I really can’t stand either of them at this point.
I guess they way I look at it is all these mistakes show that we need a better way to vet politicians. Even Trump can be fooled.
