One of the most memorable scenes in the television series “Band of Brothers is the last scene in the episode where the paratroopers are flying across the English Channel at night. Thinking about those men and comparing them to what the state of this country is today it seems almost inconceivable that they are related in any way.
But there are still some real men left.
Yes, there are, but the MSM does not cover them. They are the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who serve quietly and without recognition day by day. Whether in a helicopter waiting to parachute or fast rope down in a spec ops raid or simply standing watch or guard duty, they serve. The serve quietly, faithfully and patiently. The men may exist but the country doesn’t honor them anymore. They honor something very different and very strange.
My Dad was a platoon commander with the 101st at Normandy. He was shot a couple of times, relatively minor, but then an MG42 got him and he spent years in various hospitals. Ended up with a non-functional right leg with no muscle or nerve tissue.
He did pretty well after though, got a MS in Chemical Engineering and had a successful career.
