The School Bus Beating

I won’t hazard a guess that most people have seen the clip of the nine year old girl on the school bus being mercilessly beaten by a fifteen year old boy.  But a lot have.

The boy is black.  The girl is light skinned and I’ve heard her described as white or Hispanic in various articles.

So this is video will be a touchstone that will reveal the underlying point of view of the viewer.  For many middle classed people, white or black, watching a skinny little 9 year old girl being pummeled by a powerful teenage boy is shocking and horrifying.  Add into it the current effort by states to redistribute the largely black urban poor into the suburbs and this video would seem to confirm the worst fears of suburban parents.

I’ve seen online videos made by black Americans denouncing those who point to this video as proof of the overtly violent culture of the black underclass.  I think they’re wasting their time.  You won’t convince most parents that what is seen in this video is normal behavior in a school bus.  I’m guessing this video is producing a groundswell of applications to local private and religious schools around the country.

Now here is a black law enforcement officer who isn’t playing the race card.  He’s being honest about violence in the “black community.”  Probably because he knows about it up close and personal.  More black people will have to learn to speak honestly about the realities of the dysfunctional behaviors that are only getting worse in their community.  How that happens I don’t know.  But if it doesn’t get addressed white flight from blue states will be the only solution for people who don’t want their families victimized by the behavior seen in this video.
