Orion’s Cold Fire (OCF) reports on the decision of OCF Coffeehouses (Coincidence? I think not!) to close down rather than negotiate with unionizing employees on their wage demands.
When informed of management’s decision to cease propping up the marginal businesses, one exceptionally large and well pierced barista was heard to wail, “They can do that? What the hell were we thinking?”
When asked to comment from his secret base in the caldera of an extinct volcano on the whole tawdry affair photog was heard to say, “Huh?”
Apparently when Miss Piggy got her degree in gender studies, economics was not one of the required courses. This won’t be the first or the last business that unions have caused to close directly or indirectly. I wonder if Miss Piggy understands that she won’t see much of a raise and that most of the increase in wages ends up going to their union.
It’s worse than that. The owner was keeping the three shops open at a loss for the sake of the workers but when they pulled the unionization stunt and then refused to meet with him to understand the true financial situation for the shops he just decided to close the whole thing down. He was kind enough to continue their health care for a few months while they hopefully search for new employment. I think these “workers” base their understanding of business on the “Friends” economic model. Unfortunately Miss Piggy doesn’t look like Jennifer Aniston.
Yes, the owner really did everything he could. Classic woke Leftism: no accountability, no personal responsibility, no attempt to understand the complexity of the situation.
In bad times stupid can be fatal.

If they’re even marginally aware they’ll realize this guy will allow them to keep their jobs if they don’t try to soak him for more than the minimum wage that their waitress jobs are worth. He’s obviously progressive. But he’s also a businessman and not suicidal.
I’m all for a business owner saying, “Okay, look, we’re going to pay you a living wage to serve coffee, but that means we’re going to have to sell this product at a much higher price than is competitive.” Advertise that to your customers—“we know you’re paying a bit more for this coffee and bagel than you would at our competitors, but you’re putting braces on our employees’ kids’ teeth.” I frequent coffee shops, and that kind of model really resonates with the middle-class progressive clientele. It is wild how hideous these people are. It makes one wonder how much of one’s personal politics are shaped by biology (or, at least, by attractiveness). Alternatively, it’s well-documented that Leftist politics leads otherwise pleasant-looking people to mutilate themselves. Either way, it’s a shame.
