I have had two friends with daughters who went into the military.
(Small sample size, I know.)
Both young women were stronger than I am and may well have been physically stronger and in better health than I was at 18.
Neither woman saw combat.
Both washed out within a year of graduating basic training for “Medical” reasons.
Whatever medical issue they had was not obvious nor did it affect their ability to work post service. Both were able to carry to term and deliver healthy baby’s. They both get full VA benefits.
IMHO, for these women, military service was a scam to get benefits that will last them the rest of their lives without really earning them.
My wife was Navy and ended up in the reserves for a couple of years in the early 70’s as flight crew on a transport aircraft. Despite now having MUCH better hearing that my poor decrepit ear set, she parleyed that into lifetime VA benefits + $2200 a month + inflation as disability. I’ll promise the Marines played more hell with my ears than the Navy did with hers but it never occurred to me to claim a disability.
Tom, what are your thoughts about women in combat units?
In short, women aren’t wired for it. I could go on but the concept is a net negative, and solidly so.
If a solid proof of concept test has ever been tried, I’m not aware. And there won’t be because the result is obvious.
Makes sense to me. The idea of intentionally sending women into combat revolts me deeply.
