DSC6507: Local 4th of July Car show. 1945 Chevy pickup, perfectly restored and with beautiful yellow paint. The guys who do these restorations are amazing. I can’t even imagine the hours, late nights, parts hunting, skills, and probably years to complete such a restoration.
Little history. This shot was made in a park near the Port of Pensacola. If you look just above the car, you’ll see a statue of a Spanish Conquistador, Trisdan DeLuna who founded Pensacola in 1559, the first European settlement in North America.
Considering that was somewhat before the introduction of air conditioning, I don’t know how they stood it. Although the absolute temperatures around here aren’t higher than found elsewhere in the country, the humidity is astounding.
This is a local construction company for which I’ve done some consulting work. Johnny, a very proud lowboy driver with his brand new Peterbuilt. This was used for transporting HEAVY equipment.
This is a 1920 something Packard that just happened to be in range of my lens around 12 years ago. I posted this shot on flickr and a few years later was contacted by the American Pickers show asking to purchase rights to use it on their TV show.
Since this space doesn’t seem to be contested, I guess Photog won’t mind if I use it to show shots of cars that I’ve encountered over the past decade or so.
This was from a house at sea level abandoned after hurricane damage.
What’s that? An Alpha of some description? If so, good luck for someone to get it to actually run long enough between breakdowns to burn a tank of fuel.
I had a Fiat 124 Spyder at one point in my life. Whew! No more.
Below is a picture of a REAL car, a 1949 amphibious VW with knobby tires!!

This is a restored German Afrika Korps staff car. Not 100% certain but I think from the right front fender meant that the car was for the commander of a German motorized MP outfit. It belongs to a retired US Airforce Major General who lives adjacent to Eglin AFB. There’s a 2000′ grass runway right next to his house.
