Whoa! That is so striking. Its head looks like armor plating. Beautiful.
Yeah, the feathers refract the light with a metallic sheen. Pretty cool if the light is just right.
How did you manage to catch this little guy standing still? They’re constantly on the move.
It’s an interesting thing. We have a few hummingbird feeders in the yard. If I stalk out one of these feeders for some photos I’ll notice that when the hummingbirds are suspiciously sizing me up they’ll land in a nearby tree and watch me to see what I’m up to. Also when several males are around usually one of the birds will dominate the food source and the other ones will sit in the branches waiting for an opportunity to sneak a meal.
