That’s right. If you have a store in San Francisco, you might get sued for trying to close down or relocate it outside of the city.
Now if I had a business in San Francisco that was only getting by marginally and I heard about this law being debated, wouldn’t I shut it down immediately to protect myself from litigation?
Of course the city could decide to restore law and order and begin prosecuting shoplifters and make the streets safe again for law abiding citizens. But that wouldn’t be progressive.
Good work San Fran. Way to shoot yourself in the foot.
Another perfect example of Liberal/ Progressive leadership. These people are truly insane.
The way things are going in San Francisco they may live to regret their insanity. Pretty soon they won’t have enough tax revenues to run their little fake paradise. Soon it’ll just be homeless and criminals to fend for themselves.
It’s not just SF, It’s a problem that most large CA cities are experiencing. I agree with Charlemagne.
I agree with both of you. I’m looking forward to the eventual devolution into cannibalism throughout the state.
I’ve read that all stores in downtown SF have already closed. If SF sues, counter sue them for failure to protect businesses from organized looting and violent crime. If they want stores open, guard them or pay for their losses to looting.
The thing about all this that I don’t fully understand is how the powers that be think all this will end. They’re on the road to cataclysmic societal breakdown but don’t appear to care.
If they sue the shop owners for leaving, the shop owners should countersue for failure to enforce the law. In fact, be proactive and sue for your taxes back.
More and more California seems to be a sinking ship. But when the captain has to keep a gun trained on the crew to keep them from jumping overboard time must be running out. I’m waiting for the first systemic breakdown. My guess will be when a large city like Oakland loses its police department because the gangs just scare them off. I think it’s pretty close now.
Though I don’t remember the rational, I do remember that the state has ruled that if you leave, you’ll still owe Ca state income tax for the foreseeable future.
“You can check out any time you want but you can never leave.” I seem to have heard that somewhere.
The only way to escape California is to drop everything and flee with just the clothes on your back. But it would still be worth it.
