Given the choice between kids with simple toys and physicists, I’ll take the children every time. There is something elemental about children learning a new skill. They have to understand trajectory, momentum, judging speeds & accurate distances, bound orbits; and then teach their bodies to react precisely to intercept a bound orbit vector at speed and to furthermore cushion the landing of the ball to prevent it bouncing out of the cup again.

Small wonder we have so much trouble programming humanoid robots to do simple things children can do.

Valid points. However, social credit is not working for the Chinese very well. Imagine a time when you cannot start your car because you offended someone on social media. When AI doesn’t like your choice in blogs, music and political speech. There are oh, so many ways to silently pressure you to conform. Cranky internet speeds, debit card refusals even though you know you have money in the bank. AI will make a wonderful servant, but an awful master.

Yes, people need work, something to do. I agree that idle hands are the devil’s workshop. I can get into trouble if idle too long. I tend to think “what if I do this?”. Like the time I took a 4 bore rifle and changed out the solid slugs for explosive dumdums when the weather had been gray and gloomy for two weeks.

Or the time the blasting boss at a local quarry was on vacation. Then his second came down with something nasty but temporary. That left the rookie in charge of blasting. The owner, whom I know, was worried about this youngster being in charge of that much BOOM, so I said I would “help” him. It was glorious from my prospective and we shifted twice the rock tonnage and kept the quarry on schedule. However, the seismographs at the major university about 50 miles away noticed the sudden change in activity, triangulated it, and the ATF visited. The owner said to please go back to the old method. So we did until the blasting master returned from vacation.

Idle hands.

The problem is finding gainful work for people. Real work. Not the equivalent of counting the hairs on a caterpillar by touch sort of thing. That will be the hard part. You remember why Henry Ford had to pay such high wages for the time? Assembly lines bored people to death. They would quit if he didn’t. Repetitive work is boring as hell, as I found out pulling mess duty as a private. A common punishment for minor infractions while on mess duty was to peel enough potatoes to feed 3,000 Marines each meal. Or onions. Made you shape up pretty quick. Now, modern messes buy bags of peeled, chopped onions and potatoes.

Solving the problem of machine efficiency vs human boredom is going to be tough. Machines don’t get bored. Machines don’t get into trouble when idle. Humans can get into all sorts of mischief if left to their own devices too long.

I prefer butter pecan ice cream. Otherwise, sounds wonderful. I’ll be spending Thanksgiving at my brother’s place as my girls and grandson all have to work the day before and after Thanksgiving and one is on call. My sister-in-law makes wonderful turkey & noodles, mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes, sage dressing, oyster dressing and cornbread dressing. I bring the pies. Two pumpkin and two chocolate with a small butterscotch pie for my brother. I also bring the butter pecan ice cream, as well as three dozen homemade cinnamon rolls. The pies are chilled but the rolls come out of the oven right before I leave for his place, 15 minutes away. Still very fragrant when I arrive. They are divided up and taken home for coffee and rolls the next day. Big, puffy, tender and covered with royal icing with a slight hint of rum (his butterscotch pie has bourbon in it).

We’ll watch football and talk about his and my childhood. The rest love to hear about our juvenile escapades, then our military stories. His wife wonders aloud she doesn’t see how we’re still alive. Then it’s time for dessert and all pile in. My children and grandson can’t make it, but I send them pics of everyone.

The only way to survive is to breed better people. The child they refuse to birth may, Indeed, turn out to be a tyrant or a murderer. But then, it could also turn out to be the next Edison or Carver or Turing or Salk or Florence Nightingale. Odds are better they will grow up to be average people and live a good life with children of their own. People went on having children during WWII when things were one hell of a lot worse than they are now. They even had children during the Great Depression. You can’t change the world unless you breed.

I interacted with one of the zero population idiots. He said we should stop breeding. I asked him what human population he thought was sustainable. He said zero. So I drew my 1911A1, took out the mag, loaded it with one round and handed it to him. “Why don’t you start with yourself, then. The safety is off, just put it to your temple and pull the trigger. You won’t even feel it. Show me you mean what you say.” Of course he declined and ran off, more or less. This was about 40 years ago, in Del Rio, Texas.

Without children there is no future, good or bad. But I bet Asian couples won’t play the stupid zero population game. As a result, we will be invaded and the invaders will breed plenty of children to replace stupid Caucasians.

At my age, I can go to the Philippines, find a cute, fecund woman half my age and bring forth three or four kids before I die or finally become infertile. She would be happy with the widow’s pension from the VA and social security when I’ve gone. We don’t need the weepy, sub-beta fools who won’t have children. Bringing children forth and raising them is not for sissies. Not if done right. Our forefathers and foremothers tamed a continent and created the greatest nation. We need those people, not soyboys and soygirls.

Trump will hopefully end the department of education. That is the first step. Since it’s inception, educational standards have only gone down. Local people pay the taxes so they should determine what their schools teach, NOT the feds, or even the state. In fact, I’d prefer home schooling as the norm.

Dad was s big name at North American Aviation, then Rockwell/Rocketdyne. He actually touched things that went in orbit in the space program. I have a ring the factory made for important people at Rocketdyne. It was made from a crazy, missile nose cone titanium alloy. Like tungsten carbide, it took diamonds to cut it. It had been tempered in the hellfire of reentry and was light yet incredibly string. We lived in places like Simi Valley, Canoga Park and then up in the Thousand Oaks area. Mom shopped at the then amazing Topanga Plaza. We went ice skating indoors. We’d go up Mt Baldy in the morning to play in the snow, then in the late afternoon, we swam and surfed at the public beaches. It was the days of Wolfman Jack, Dragnet and Adam-12. It was also the days of the Watts riots, but as my heritage is divided between Caucasian and Native American, neither side had an issue with me. Mexican, Black and White kids got on amazingly well in school. Drugs were just beginning to be a problem. Living was large and life was good. We were solidly ahead of the Russkies in the space race. American technocracy led the world. We were winning battles in Vietnam (only to be betrayed by politicians later). Overall, it was a magical time.

One of my favorites is Ahab’s soliloquy spoken by Gregoey Peck on the bridge of the Pequod.

I do not have the funds to make great changes. No political power, no influence except among family who respect my opinions. I believe there is too much money In politics already, so I do not contribute to political parties or candidates except for a cousin of mine who is a county trustee.

Instead, I offer the party or candidate something totally above price. My vote. It cannot be bought as I would not sell it for millions, therefore it is beyond value. I earned my franchise through blood, sweat and pain. It is priceless to me.

As for social media, I eschew it. My private life is mine and I do not care to share it with strangers. I also do not care about their lives so no reason to join social media. I don’t want to see pictures of their restaurant meals, etc. I find no attraction in trying to gain approval from strangers by amassing likes. There are a few for whom I care about their opinions. Mostly my close relatives and a very few brothers in arms.

We really need to lower our population back down to about 150 million. We’re beginning to act like an experimental overcrowded rat colony.

(With respect to the attitude of the populace toward the military.)

Quite true. I’ve seen the gamut from being spat upon and called a baby killer when I returned from Vietnam to being thanked profusely by strangers after 9/11.

You are correct. The populace in general thinks little about the military except screaming about the budget. Until, that is, they get a visceral gut punch and become afraid.

The alphabet people, who despise the military, fail to realize that only 1 person out of 250 is all that is preventing them from being defenestrated by the same Palestinians they are rioting to support. They.also keep feminists and other women from being put back into servitude and wrapped in full coverage burka. Ladies, want your voting rights, driving rights and any other rights ripped away? Do away with our military.

Only 4 people out of a thousand serve on active duty. One in 250. There are only some 6 out of a thousand who are veterans. Being a Spartan is a tough and lonely life. You live fast and die younger than civilians, on average. Those who actually serve in combat are an even smaller percentage. We have seen and done unspeakable things to protect The People in general. Some of us have fought and killed hand-to-hand. We are loaded with PTSD and commit suicide or self-medicate at several times the rate of civilians.

So get off our backs. We have enough baggage to carry as it is.

Me and my brother still remember things our grandparents did and talk about them often. Things we did that got us in trouble but they helped so we got off. Both of our grandpa’s were ornery and mischievous and liked to play tricks on us. Both grandma’s were loving and soothed our small injuries and fed us to stuffing. We even had one greatgrandmother who lived long enough for us to remember. She was an easy mooch and always had marshmallow peanuts, candy orange slices and soft peppermints. She was an amazing character, too. Smoked a clay pipe that got so hot I had to use tongs to touch it. Every morning she put liquid HEET on her hands to loosen up the arthritis. I got a drop of it on me and I had to run to the sink and use cold water to wash it off. Felt like molten glass had landed on me.

I’m gonna have to write all the stories down for my grandson.

So many are sending encouragement to Trump, but he lived with relatively little damage. I am angry with the media, pundits and celebs who are apparently forgetting the bystander who was killed and the two critically wounded. I still have not heard THEIR names mentioned. The dastard murderer’s name we know well, hearing or reading it dozens of times everywhere.

How about the media and pundits showing some respect for the bystanders who caught bullets, hmmmm?

The man who died sacrificed his life to shield his wife and daughters from the bullets. He died a bona fide HERO. And how about his family who saw him take the bullet and die before their eyes?

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, a shooting occurred at a campaign rally for former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident resulted in the death of Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old former firefighter who was attending the rally with his family. Comperatore was fatally shot while trying to protect his family from the hail of bullets.
Corey Comperatore: A Hero
Corey Comperatore, a devoted father and volunteer firefighter, was hailed as a hero for shielding his family from the gunfire. According to reports, Comperatore threw himself over his family members, including his wife and two daughters, to protect them from the bullets. His selfless act ultimately cost him his life.
Other Injured Victims
Two other individuals were injured in the shooting, including a 35-year-old man who was shot in the leg and a 42-year-old woman who was shot in the arm. Both victims were treated at a local hospital and are expected to recover.

It’s no fun being a prophet. As I wrote earlier, the left has pulled out all the stops.

Now Trump and me are brothers. I’ve had an AK bullet pass between the right side of my head and my right ear. It nicked my ear and burned the short hair on my head. We both have been within an inch of dying.

What bothers me is how the shooter got that close. ALL rooftops within a mile with direct line of sight of the stage are supposed to be under surveillance by human eyes with binoculars, snipers with scopes, helicopters, and drones. Drones should have been swarming the perimeter and out to at least 400 yards.

Trump has his Teddy Roosevelt moment. Too bad the shooter was killed. Should have been captured and sent to Gitmo for “questioning”, but I guess they had to ensure he couldn’t shoot any more bystanders.

I can say with experience. TRUMP WILL HAVE RESTLESS NIGHTS OVER THIS ONE. He’ll wake up, sit up in bed and grab his ear from bad dreams.

Trump has earned his PTSD.

Update:

TomD:

Thank God the shooter had little experience or was so stressed out that he couldn’t use the fundamentals. Maybe he just didn’t know enough to zero his scope.

A head sized target from 130 yards from a prone position is trivial.

Whatever the circumstances that caused him to miss an easy shot, thank God.

Chemist:

The witness in the video said there were multiple higher points around that the SS was not manning.
They did not have the high ground.
Yes, I am Monday morning quarterbacking this.
Doesn’t change anything. They fucked up.
