Pennsylvania GOP Senate Primary Pits Trump Endorsement Against Anti-Abortion Favorite

Dr. Oz is the celebrity candidate that has been endorsed by Donald Trump and he is very narrowly ahead.  Katy Barnette is a black military veteran with a pro-life personal story who has been endorsed by the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List.

Trump’s endorsement has gotten Oz his narrow lead but Oz being a Hollywood celebrity has baggage that doesn’t endear him to the New Right.  It’s a toss of the coin as to who will win.  But this leaves the larger question.  Are Donald Trump’s endorsements reliable conservatives?  After all, he endorsed Mitt Romney four years ago and could there be a worse RINO?  Possibly he’s grown more careful.

But this showcases an ongoing problem.  Vetting politicians needs a more rigorous procedure than what currently passes for it.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, David McCormick, and Kathy Barnette are polling between about 21% and 25%, according to the latest Trafalgar poll conducted May 6-8. The survey included 1,080 respondents and had a 2.99% margin of error.

“Oz, a celebrity doctor and former President Donald Trump’s endorsee, took the top spot in the survey, with 24.5% saying they would vote for him if the primary were held that day. Military veteran Barnette came in second with 23.2%, and McCormick, a former U.S. Treasury official, was third with 21.6%.

Anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List has endorsed Kathy Barnette in the GOP Senate race in Pennsylvania over former President Trump’s endorsement of Dr. Mehmet Oz.  Barnette has surged in the polls in recent weeks, jumping from a low fifth place last month, with a RealClearPolitics average of 8.8%, to now being neck and neck with the most high-profile candidates.””

Good Guys and Bad Guys

I was hunting around for a topic this morning.  I started on something about Jen Psaki.  I started making fun of all the things about her that seemed mockable.  But just thinking about her annoyed me.  It was like some kind of miasma that infects anyone who comes in proximity with her evil persona.  So, I put that aside for a day when I felt stronger.

I thought about writing something on Merrick Garland and his double standard for protestors with differing political objectives.  But I got the same feeling.  I guess some days photog just doesn’t want to rake the muck.  But I couldn’t think of any topic that didn’t involve Leftists being Leftists.  After all, armies of Antifa psychopaths are laying siege to the homes of SCOTUS justices and Homeland Security is spawning a Ministry of Truth in their spare time.

So, I got tired of thinking about all those creeps and went outside and did some yard work.  I cleaned another one of Camera Girl’s gardens of poison ivy and I pulled out a few small Russian Olive trees (still at the large shrub stage) and did a little more fence repair and enjoyed the sunny day.  There was a little more wind than I cared for but that’s become standard conditions around here lately.

And after I finished all that, I had lunch and my mood was much better.  I read the end of the second part of the Bounty Trilogy, “Men Against the Sea.”  It wasn’t as good as “Mutiny on the Bounty” but it was interesting.  I was especially interested in Bligh’s policy of avoiding any of the islands in the South Seas because of the certainty that most of the islanders were cannibals.  I’ve been stressing lately that we’ll know when we’ve hit bottom when cannibalism becomes routine in some of our larger cities.  At that point I assume most people will choose to avoid Broadway openings and the New Year’s Eve Time Square party in order to lessen the chance of being someone’s lunch.  But I could be wrong about that.  Some people really like the theater.

So, I got to thinking,  Talking about the Left is so painful because it’s thinking about people who are murdering our country.  And unless the talk is constructive and helps us get rid of them, then it’s just masochism.  What is worth talking about is anything constructive.  Trying to figure out a way to make things better.  Or sharing information on someone who is improving things like DeSantis or Musk or Trump.

And the other thing for me is to concentrate on the cultural things.  Good books and movies and photos that I like or other things that come my way.  That’s worthwhile for me.  Today I had my Monday zoom meeting with some of the guys from the old firm.  All the news was of people leaving or retiring or going to contract employment.  It sounded like a death spiral to me.  But none of us care anymore.  These companies are rotten to the core.  It’s just a way to make money for a while longer.  The future will have to be something different.  The next President who doesn’t want to preside over the death of this nation will have to grab these mega-corporation CEOs by the throat and tell them either they bring middle-class jobs to this country or they will be taxed out of existence.  It’s as simple as that.

So that was Monday.

Guest Contributor – War Pig – Memorial Day

My Memorial Day weekend will be spent visiting various cemeteries. I have veteran relatives to honor, such as mom, dad and several uncles and cousins. I will also remember comrades who died in action or later after retirement. My Vietnam generation is fast aging. Most of us who were privates then are in our 70s now, and those who were officers and NCOs are even older. Many of us served well into the War on Terror and against Iraq and even Afghanistan, as well as many places that never made it in the news.

For me and many others Memorial Day is bittersweet and rather melancholy. Families with a strong military tradition likely feel the same. Since the Civil War there have been men and women in our family who have served and fought in each war and “police action”. So I will stand and salute as the Anthem or Taps is played or the colors pass at various cemeteries and Memorial services, and I will shed the odd tear in memory of those braver than I who went before.

08MAY2022 – Mother’s Day and Other Stuff

Last night we went over to one of my daughters’ houses for a Mother’s Day dinner cooked on the grill by one of my sons-in-law in honor of all the mothers in the family.  Steak, salmon, chicken, baked potatoes, string beans, the whole enchilada.  He’s military so survival skills are his forte and cooking ranks high among them.  After dinner was the ice cream cake and coffee.  Superb.  And for once Camera Girl didn’t have to cook a thing.  Probably her favorite party of the year so far.

My granddaughter is three and a half now and so she’s finally old enough to start joining in with the younger boy cousins in running amok in the back yard and the basement.  I’ve never seen a little girl so happy to be shooting and being shot with nerf rockets.  It proves that she’s one of the big kids now.

Seeing how great all these kids are turning out is a remarkable source of pride for me.  Of course, all the credit goes to Camera Girl.  For all of her myriad annoying qualities she is the quintessential mom and grandma.  Her instincts and her conscious efforts are all aligned around nurturing children.  Of course, she’s much more laisse faire about nurturing husbands.  Well, I guess no one’s perfect.

But it struck me reading all the nonsense about the Left rallying around abortion that these people are out of their minds.  They’ve bought into a death cult that emphasizes short term convenience over sharing in the most rewarding institution in human relations, a large multigenerational family.  And based on what I’ve been reading the present generation doesn’t seem as enthusiastic about abortion as the baby boomers were.

The various leftist opinion writers discussing the abortion panic are none too optimistic about either preventing Roe v. Wade being struck down or using the event as a successful rallying cry for the November mid-terms.  They’ve gone through several stages of opinion on the whole issue and currently they’ve ended up at frustration.  It’s frustration that they can’t move the needle on the Republican advantage in polls for the mid-terms and frustration that the voters, other than a noisy but narrow segment are unexcited by the SCOTUS opinion.  It has escaped their notice that Antifa rioters don’t raise families or even engage in heterosexual relationships.  To paraphrase a feminist expression, Antifa women need abortion like a fish needs a bicycle.

And speaking to some folks on our side, those who were most worried about a mid-term backlash against the SCOTUS decision now see the wisdom of direct action.  One fellow admitted that plowing forward with the actions that we’ve said we’ve always wanted to see accomplished is the only way anything will ever get done.  Hearing that was especially satisfying for me.  I’ve been saying for years that pussyfooting around these actions is tantamount to surrendering to the Left.  All it has done is acclimate the succeeding generations to permanent Leftist hegemony.  Fighting these policies even if the battle goes back and forth is progress.  Whining about not being ready until we have overwhelming odds in our favor is a fantasy that guarantees perpetual inaction.

So today I sent out invitations for the Memorial Day Weekend family barbecue.  There I will see most of the closest relatives I have assembled together at the Compound for food and drink and hordes of children and grandchildren running around in circles and jumping in a swimming pool.  We’re slowly putting all of the COVID nonsense in the rearview mirror and moving our lives back where they belong, together.

Happy Mother’s Day.
