Another Small Step Toward Holding Woke Organizations Accountable
First the Ohio Appeals Court Upholds $31 Million Award Against Oberlin College for calling innocent people racists. Now another Ohio college has to pay a professor $400,000 for trying to force him to kowtow to the “pronoun” speech dictates of delusional students. What is it with Ohio colleges?
This needs to happen more and more. After enough colleges are bankrupted through lawsuits, they’ll start towing the line. If the spineless “conservatives” on the Supreme Court were not mostly useless they’d spend the next year clearing out all the unconstitutional things going on in the country and rid us of our woke masters. But in the meantime, it looks like the solution is more lawyers who know how to hit these people where it hurts, in the wallet. Although I have to confess, I’d prefer if these were criminal cases where the perpetrators could go to prison for a decade or two.
What I really wish is that I lived in a state like Florida where they are addressing these problems head on with laws and government actions against the perpetrators. Keep it up people. If enough action is taken, we’ll start seeing this stuff rolled back.
Something to Show To Confused Children and Their Parents
Kudos to Carlson and especially this young woman for speaking out about what a dangerous thing it is convincing vulnerable and suggestable teenagers (and younger) that they should disrupt the critical physical changes going on during puberty. Dosing children with puberty blockers and hormones is madness. How much worse then is surgically mutilating them? Carlson is performing a public service. This interview should be required viewing for any parents out there.
Protect your kids.
17APR2022 – Quote of the Day (Easter Sunday)
(A Quote for the Faithful)
John Chapter 20
1 The first [day] of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5 And he stooping down, [and looking in], saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, [and looked] into the sepulchre,
12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and [to] my God, and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and [that] he had spoken these things unto her.

Curtis Yarvin Gives an Example of Winning the Battle and Losing the War
I was reading an article by that highly intellectual critic of the social order we live under, Curtis Yarvin. If you are unfamiliar with his writing, Yarvin’s analysis of the oligarchic nature of the American power structure is in many ways observably correct. And although his writing style and his elitist perspective are sometimes maddening, his ideas are very often illuminating.
In this case he was writing about Elon Musk’s offer to buy Twitter and bring it private. The gist of the argument was that because, potentially, Musk could completely control Twitter’s policies and actions toward the public it was a rare chance for a pure strategic victory against the Left.
And to contrast it with a tactical victory that eventually led to a strategic defeat he relates the decades long struggle against crime in New York City. The familiar story relates that under decades long liberal rule New York grew more and more crime-infested until by the late 1980s there were over 2,000 murders a year and the whole city was besieged by petty and serious crime. People were leaving the city by the hundreds of thousands and public confidence had evaporated. This set the stage for a law-and-order Republican, Rudy Giuliani, to win the mayor’s office on the strength of a promise to restore law and order through stringent policing methods.
And it worked. For more than twenty years Giuliani and Bloomberg who came after him, were able to maintain New York City at low levels of crime. Levels that hadn’t been seen previously even in less chaotic times. New York became a livable big city and thrived financially and culturally. But what had not changed was that the majority of New Yorkers were still progressives who deep down in their souls resented the fact that this criminal justice system ended up incarcerating mostly black criminals. Since their logic told them that somehow this wasn’t fair, they were never happy with the system even if it saved them from a tidal wave of crime.
So, after they became complacent about crime and when the George Floyd moment came New Yorkers were glad to have the excuse to abandon effective policing. And the rest was inevitable. Now the city is more dangerous than ever and trying to get back to where they were a few years ago seems politically impossible.
Yarvin’s point was that the tactical victory by Rudy Giuliani allowed for the strategic defeat that came afterward. In other words, allowing conservatives to do the dirty work for the progressives doesn’t alter the beliefs of the progressives. It only enables it. It never leads to permanent change.
And I saw the same thing in Massachusetts during the 1990’s. The Democrats would crash the state fiscally with bleeding heart programs and corrupt practices and then the Republicans would have to clean it up. But they would never get any credit for the changes. And as soon as the ship was righted they would be replaced with another round of dysfunction. At best the Republicans were a relief valve that kept the whole insane machine from exploding.
Well, this is an old story. But Yarvin’s emphasis resonated with me. Winning a battle and losing the war was not something that should be done. What we can’t afford to do is patch up the Left’s system. We need to let them utterly fail at what they do. We need to exclude them from some endeavor as completely as is possible and then make that endeavor an undeniable success. And then keep them out of it.
Where I see that already happening is at the state level. Places like Florida and Texas and other states need to change their laws to make them uninviting for progressives fleeing from California and New York. And they need to protect themselves as completely as possible from the federal government. In that way they can build their own system and reap the benefits while excluding the Left.
Places like California and New York need to be completely abandoned by the Right. They need to crash completely. As I like to portray it, they need to reach the level where cannibalism is the dominant lifestyle of the inhabitants. Things need to get so bad that eventually the Leftists simply die off completely. And all that is left are normal human beings.
The point is victory is only victory when it weakens your enemy and strengthens you.

John Chapter 19
19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put [it] on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, [and] Greek, [and] Latin.
21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.
22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.
15APR2022 – OCF Update – Good Friday All Around
Life is good today. It rained hard last night and now it’s a bright sunny day. Now that’s the way to arrange the weather! My thanks to the Man Upstairs for this indulgence.
A beautiful day for a walk in the woods. A good telecon with a business consultant. Useful actionable advice. Progress on all fronts of the business effort. No new roadblocks appearing. Domestic tranquility continues. Plans for the summer Yellowstone trip coalescing nicely Some books and movies to finish up for reviews. Projects around the house and yard coming along fine. What can I say? Life is good today.
Of course, in the larger world, that sleazy dopey wrecker in the White House continues to dismantle the United States of America with alarming speed. The economy continues to shake itself to pieces with costs soaring into the stratosphere and staple supplies disappearing from store shelves on a random basis. Disorder stalks the metropolitan areas and international relations are becoming strained even among supposed allies.
But today is Good Friday. For Christians a time to reflect on the things that are most important in life. Most fundamentally, on our families and friends. Jesus spoke mostly of love. Right now it is paramount that we love and protect those we care about. Protect them from the coming storms.
But right at this moment we can also share some happy moments with them. Sunday we’re getting together at the house of one of my daughters. All of my grandchildren will be there and all but one of my children. We’ll eat way too much fattening food and I hope we’ll have a chance to throw a baseball around. But the forecast isn’t promising. Cold and wet is the forecast.
But that matters not at all. We’ll talk about what the kids are up to and applaud their sports victories and condole the losses. We’ll talk about upcoming college admission. We’ll talk about vacation plans and trips on the new boat that’s in the driveway. and there will be talk about dinosaurs with my youngest grandson who is a connoisseur of all things saurian.
And I know Camera Girl is going to bake a ricotta cheesecake for the holiday and that is one of my favorites. And even though I’ve switched from coffee to tea this year I will indulge in some good coffee for the occasion. And I intend to revel in the chaos of five grandchildren playing (and fighting) all around me. And I intend to participate in the games of whatever variety they choose. Last time we got together they had me try out an virtual reality contraption called an Occulus. I bought this for them a couple of years ago and I was surprised at just how realistic the illusion it produces is.
It’s funny how these holidays provide so much continuity in our lives. It’s comforting to have these rituals to ground us and those we love in a familiar pattern. And for me Easter is a pivotal point in the year. Long New England winters finally release the landscape around Easter and people can go outside and breath a little fresh air. It’s the beginning of outdoor life.
Everyone enjoy the day especially those who are religious. And get a little air and sun if it’s around.
Elon Musk and Twitter
Everyone’s heard that Elon Musk has made an offer to buy Twitter and convert it into a privately held company. And if you asked me my opinion about this situation I’d have to say, “What the hell is Twitter and why should I care?” I looked up Twitter and what I learned is that it’s a social media website that allows any idiot to post a message up to a maximum of 288 characters long (but somehow this doesn’t count any enormously larger attached video clip).
But the proviso is that the poster has to be a brain-dead doofus. For non-doofuses your every utterance will be scrutinized by uber-leftist social justice warriors who will report any violations against Democrat party talking points to the commissars at Twitter’s Ministry of Truth where you will be suspended either temporarily or permanently and then cast into the outer darkness where there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
So, the supposedly smartest and richest man in the world wants to buy this company. Why? What will be accomplished if he owns this weird network? Will he somehow level the playing field? Will his employees allow this to happen? Will the government allow this to happen or will they instead administer a death by a thousand paper cuts? And is Twitter really of any value to the world? Does it have an impact?
I have to confess I’ve never really understood the allure of a 288-character snippet of information. That’s like forty, fifty words. So far, this post is about 250 words and I haven’t really finished the initial idea. If a tweet is really just a headline for an attached normal sized post, I guess that would make sense. Is it just that Twitter has such a large user base that it acts as a global bulletin board?
Okay, but if you were the richest man in the world and also supposedly one of the most technologically savvy individuals couldn’t you just build something better from the ground up? And you wouldn’t even have to do it alone. Peter Thiel is another tech billionaire who is interested in free speech concerns with the social media platforms. Couldn’t these two titans of industry capitalize on the demand of a public that is hungry for a level political playing field and build something much, much better than Twitter, YouTube or Facebook? After all, much less savvy people have begun to create alternates to Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.
Surely the financial and intellectual resources that an Elon Musk or a Peter Thiel can bring to bear on this kind of opportunity must be considerable. And if Musk is seriously considering buying Twitter, then he has identified it as a viable business opportunity. He doesn’t need to spend tens of billions of dollars to create an exciting and profitable business that already has a large population of people who would make up its user base. Probably one billion dollars would get the job done. And what’s one crummy billion dollars to Elon Musk?
I hold out the possibility that Musk is hoping that Twitter rejects his offer and that he plans to build his own platform. Maybe this whole bid is a publicity stunt to advertise his own entry into the social media business. I hope it is. Places like Gab and Truth don’t have the clout needed to compete with the established social media platforms. And, honestly, it’s not enough to just provide a similar product. Twitter and Facebook aren’t providing a satisfying product. They thrive merely because they currently enjoy a monopolistic stranglehold on the niches they created. What’s needed is something that provides a healthier environment for people on-line. A truly honest marketplace of ideas would be that healthier environment.
So, Elon Musk and Peter Thiel and any other entrepreneurs out there who see an opportunity in Twitter’s partisan methods; don’t try to fix Twitter. Instead, bury it with a superior platform. And make obscene amounts of money doing it.
