Apocalypse Basecamp: The Comedy

Casey Newton of “The Verge” publishes the details of the Zoom meeting where the woke employees have a meltdown when a somewhat conservative manager disputes their definition of white supremacy.  It’s hilarious and maddening at the same time.  The only sad point is that the conservative manager also resigned from Basecamp.  I take that as a definite negative for the whole thing.  If he had stayed it would have been the cherry on the float.

Well, just read the thing.  Understand that Newton is extremely sympathetic to the wokesters and so take that into account with respect to any statements of opinion on motives or judgement.

Here’s the summation at the end.

“But as much as the conversation about Basecamp’s moves has been framed as “politics,” it seems important to remember that the entire affair began when a third of the company — not all of whom are among the 20 who have departed so far, by the way — volunteered to help the company become more diverse and equitable. It was only when their committee dug a skeleton out of the company closet — that list of names — that Fried and Hansson moved to shut the whole thing down.

“It was actually a positive thing we were doing,” one employee told me, marveling at the chaos that had followed. “We had identified the problem, how it happened, and vowed not to do it again. It was a company doing exactly what it should do. The founders refused to lead, and so the company was doing it itself.”

Another employee said they had been thrown by the fact that the founders, after years of telling employees that they were part of an elite chosen few who were good enough to work at Basecamp, would get rid of them so easily.

“They just want to build cool shit all day,” the employee said. “They don’t want to deal with people, which is something you have to do as a manager … Jason and David just threw us away.””

I was saddened to read that not all of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council has resigned.  That, I see, as the real tragedy.  But hopefully the owners are wiser for their sad experience and will stamp out any sparks of wokeism if the appear again.

I think the lesson for the rest of us is that even non-conservatives recognize that a woke presence in a business is poison and unless you suppress its activities it will destroy your company right before your eyes.

Boy, I Wish I Worked for Basecamp

Hat tip (second in two days) to Vox Day

Basecamp is a software company and their CEO has decided to get their employees out of the social justice outrage business.  See here and here.  And more than just abstaining from political and social justice topics on the company communication channels, he made a bunch of other sensible and efficient changes.

  • No more societal and political discussions on company account
  • No more paternalistic benefits.
  • No more committees
  • No more 360 reviews.
  • No forgetting what we do here

I had heard about Coinbase doing something similar a while back about political discussions.  Maybe corporations are realizing just how disruptive allowing and even favoring a particular political opinion can be to a company’s bottom line.

I can attest to just how aggravating it is working for a company that allows the SJW’s to infiltrate and finally control the environment that a company surrounds its employees in.  I know people who have left high paying and interesting jobs because of the toxic environment the woke corporation have produced.

The Only Ones Who Can End the Woke Era Are Teenagers

The demographic that supports all of the agenda of the Left and actually believes all of the nonsense that it espouses is the millennials.  And I don’t think those people can be persuaded.  They believe in the narrative being sold by their teachers and professors and the authorities that run the social media sites that they spend so much time on.  But how about the next generation?  Who is to say that they can’t be awakened to what’s going on?  Sure, they’re also exposed to the same propaganda.  In fact the brain washing has been turned up by an order of magnitude in the last couple of years.  But why shouldn’t we try to present our message as a counter-program to what they’re learning.  Kids do enjoy rebelling against the cultural norms they’re fed.  What easier thing could there be than feeding into the normal behaviors that young people already have and show how this refutes the make-believe things that the Left is trying to teach them?

Everything from transgenderism to white privilege to defunding the police are very easy for even middle school kids to understand.  We’ll have to include the idea that this information is taboo in school and kids will have to discuss these things outside the hearing of their teachers but that will only make the message that much more enticing.  And we can take advantage of all the most ludicrous aspects of the woke religion to prove our case and all these things will appeal to the impressionable minds of young people.

As an example, if you wanted to explain to a girl why it would be unfair for “transgender” girls to compete against real girls all you would need is a video clip of what these “girls” look like and how they compare in speed and strength to real girls.  If you want to explain the danger of allowing children to decide about puberty blocking drugs, mastectomies and castration just find any of the articles written by people who went through these medical procedures and then realized it was a horrible mistake after it was too late.  If you want to convince a kid what it would mean if the police were defunded show them some video clips of what’s going on in the blue cities that are cowering down to the BLM mobs.  The riots and looting, the old ladies being assaulted by the black kids playing the knockout game.  It’ll be pretty easy.

But as I said, you’ll have to let the kids know that this is forbidden knowledge and they’ll have to keep quiet in the classroom if they don’t want to be cancelled.  But I guarantee it’ll still be fascinating to these young people.  Forbidden knowledge always is.  And since virtually none of this can exist on social media it will have to be delivered either on private websites or even face to face.  But you know what they say, “The truth shall set you free.”  And that’s what we need, more truth and more freedom.
