Guest Contributor – Chemist – 02JUN2026 – Adios John Cornyn

I’m a Texan.
I was unhappy about John Cornyn’s love for amnesty but let it slide because “he was the one who could win in the general”.
Then Cornyn stabbed us in the back on gun control. That was a bridge too far. I swore then that I would vote for a democrat for US senate before I would vote for Cornyn again. My reasoning was that we would have to put up with the dem for 6 years and then we could replace him with a real conservative but that Cornyn was there until he died.
Apparently, I was not alone in this and John picked up on it announcing that this would be his last term in the senate.
Didn’t care. Didn’t trust John to keep his word anyway.
(BTW, John was warned. He was warned by constituents such as myself and by organizations like GOA and NRA that if he supported Biden’s gun control he would face an expensive and grueling primary. He did not care.)
Then along came Ken Paxton. Fresh off 4 years of suing the Biden administration to a standstill, Ken was the guy who could beat John.
I sent Ken money in the primary and in the runoff and I will again for the general.
We are sick to death of RINOs pissing on us and telling us it is raining.
I am very happy to see John Cornyn in the rear view mirror.
Don’t go away mad, John. Just go away.

Guest Contributor – Chemist – 17JUL2025 – Grocery Wars

So Mandani wants to have city run grocery stores.
Let’s say he gets his wish.
Grocery stores run about a 3% profit margin. This is for the big boys: Kroger, Safeway, HEB, etc.
The smaller chains have less buying power and can’t get the gross margins the big guys can so they run 1 to 2% profits. I don’t think NYC is going to get the same gross margin as Kroger.
Chain grocery stores employ a lot of younger, minimum wage people.
NYC stores will have to employ NYC city civil servants with all the benefits attached to being a city employee: Higher wages, gold plated health care, pensions, etc.
Pretty sure the 1% profit margin just left the building right there.
Then there is spoilage – because those folks living in the “Food deserts” aren’t going to be buying fresh stuff no matter how much the mayor says it is good for them.
Finally, as with anything related to NYC, there will also be a ton of graft and outright theft.
I predict the stores will run 20-30% in the red
This will be a HUGE debacle. But it might be fun to watch.

Guest Contributor – Chemist – 13FEB2025 – $1T

Talcove from LexisNexis Special Services testifying before the DOGE committee yesterday:

“What amount of fraud can be prevented in the entitlements programs and how?”

“By putting identity confirmation requirements in at the front end of payment systems, eliminating self-certification, and monitoring the back end – $1T.”

A trillion dollars sounds like a good start on cutting the budget.

Update:

Comment by TomD

Yeah, 1 $trillion as in 10^12th power, is a start. You want to see the logical conclusion of this process?

This is the largest real bill printed in the history of man. When I got the bill, the value was approx. 1/10th the value of the paper that it is printed on. Ironically, due to now scarcity, the bills are selling for well over $100 on ebay. I’m pissed, I bought 20 of them for $1 each and was giving them away as jokes/object lessons.

Guest Contributor – Chemist – 04FEB2025 – Reasons for Hope

Points of optimism for you:
You say the Left controls most of the institutions; the schools, the universities, the Media, Hollywood, the book publishers and most of Silicon Valley.
Our schools are failing and school choice is getting bigger every day. Trump may well end the Dept of Education.
The Universities are losing students and power – that means influence as well.
The old media is dying. The new media (Twitter, podcasts, etc) is ascendant.
Hollywood is burning and will probably disperse into other states as CA is too expensive.
The legacy book publishers are becoming more irrelevant every day and will probably go through a period of consolidation and reduction. New publishers are emerging every day and self publishing is a viable option for eBooks.
The Tech Bros of silicon valley are coming over to our side.

Sometimes, all it takes is a leader. Like Trump.

Guest Contributor – Chemist – 24JAN2025 – Nuclear Power

“Now the real problem is managing the wastes and breeding more fuel.”
Interesting choice of words.
If only there were a way of capturing all those extra neutrons and making fuel grade Uranium from more common ore. We could call it a “Breeder reactor”.
Nah. It will probably be decades until we could do that.
Like negative 7 decades.

There is no scientific reason not to use nuclear power. As you pointed out, the French have been doing it for 70 years. (They sell power to Germany.)
And if the French can do it….
The roadblocks are 90% political and 10% engineering.
Nuclear waste can be dealt with if we give American engineers a chance to attack the problem. But with no new activity going on, we can’t solve the problems.

Spending billions on a waste storage project in Nevada and then letting a corrupt politician kill the project was clearly the wrong way to go.
BTW, Nevada, I’d like that money back.

Guest Contributor – Chemist – 01JUL2024 – Hive of Infamy

San Fran Nan is not used to answering tough questions from the press. She is used to softballs like: “How do you deal with the stress and isolation of the pandemic?” To which she can reply by showing off a $20,000 refrigerator stuffed with high end ice cream. And the press just oooos like trained seals.
Actually answering questions is beneath her. How dare you!

And yes, any biological male in the military wearing a dress is fired.
Anyone wearing bondage gear or puppy play garb is fired.
IMHO – shut the FBI down. The rot is too deep. Save the crime lab and pink slip everyone else.
Take a page out of Clinton’s book and fire every lawyer in the DOJ. He did it. The press loved it. When the press gets upset at Trump, he just reminds them that they were OK when Bubba did it.

Guest Contributor – Chemist – 27JUN2024 – At a Theater Near You

A very good movie that somehow made it to the theaters is “Sound of freedom” – a bit heavy for kids though.
My local theater (which is often begging for viewers) was sold out almost every show.
The same theater now has:
“A quiet place: Day one” which is a remake of a terrible horror movie only this time with a POC in the lead. (Pass.)
“The Garfield movie” (Might be OK for kids, but I’ll pass).
“Inside out 2” (A sequel to a movie I did not see. Looks like Disney/Pixar – best to avoid.)
“Bad Boys Ride or Die” (Pass, I thought this property was paid out a decade ago. Pass.)
“The Bikeriders” (Looks like a throwback to 60s troubled teens on motorcycles. Pass.)
Horizon Chapter 1 (A Kevin Costner western – Maybe)
“If” A Ryan Reynolds comedy. I like RR. Free Guy was great! But I can wait for this to hit cable.

Guest Contributor – Chemist – 19JUN2024 – Primarily Cornyn

I get it.
On a smaller scale in Texas we have the RINO John Cornyn to deal with.
John gave Biden his one and only gun control win and, in so doing, gave the Biden administration the legal standing to decide that anyone who sold a firearm was now a gun dealer and ad to register with the feds or face prison.
Yeah. John did that.

So in another 2 years John Cornyn is up for re-election.
He will be primaried.
If he wins his primary, We will not vote for him in the general.
Better a real democrat we can get rid of in another 6 years than 6 more years of a traitor.

Guest Contributor – Chemist – 25JAN2024 – Another Texan’s View

As a Texan, the same question came to my mind: “What took you so long?” This has been going on for 3 years!
But I think one or more of your suggested reasons is the answer. Abbott needed to make the northern blue cities feel the pain before he could act. (Full credit to DeSantis who bussed illegals first.) Now that the invasion is recognized as the number 1 problem facing the US, Abbott’s actions are winning in the public arena.
Does PINO Joe want to go toe to toe with Texas in an election year?
Maybe. Maybe that’s the plan. And maybe after a bloody encounter his puppet masters will pull Joe out at the last minute and put Big Mike on the ballot in his place.
Then Michelle can distance herself from the “Recent Unpleasantness” during the election (No clue what they will do with Kamala) and the regime has another object lesson for the rest of the country.

One thing is for sure. We are living in interesting times. (See ancient Chinese curse.)
