Finally up to snuff.  So I’ve been catching up on my chores.  Fixing a fence, stowing some gardening equipment, some prep for some larger tasks.  But ti’s good to be back in the land of the living.  As I was walking by a hill I could hear one lonely cricket still chirping slow and low.  I couldn’t help saying to him, “Hang in there brother.”

I look around today at the headlines; economy tanking, inflation running amok, Biden sucks; same old, same old.

But on the home front lots of good stuff going on.  Halloween will be a real thing this year.  They’ve taken the plastic wrap off the kids and they can go out and beg for grubby candy.  We’ve got a grandson’s birthday coming up here and we’ve also wrangled the rights to hosting Thanksgiving for all the grandkids this year.  So whatever else Dementia Joe destroys he may be too late to destroy Thanksgiving.  And I say that knowing that there may be no turkeys or pumpkin pie because of “supply chain” foul ups.  But for whatever reason hope is in the air.

I looked at TCM’s line-up of horror movies for Halloween and they really are pathetic.  They’ve ignored almost all the Universal Classic Monster movies and they’ve back-filled with a lot of shlocky 1950’s and 1960’s Vincent Price junk.  I could understand if they had decided to go for more modern fare but then they could have had Psycho, Silence of the Lambs, maybe some of the really gruesome stuff from the 1990’s.  But apparently they’ve lost interest.  I’m looking around to review at least one good horror movie for Halloween.  If anyone has a suggestion that I haven’t already reviewed feel free to leave it in the comments.

I noticed that the poll takers, Reuters and Harris and the rest haven’t tried too hard to boost Biden’s poll numbers over the last couple of weeks.  Or if they have it hasn’t helped.  He’s been at approximately -10 (40 up, 50 down) for a while.  I’m curious to see if it can go much below that.  If it got to -20 (30/60) I bet even Dementia Joe’s puppet master will consider trying to repair some of the damage done to the economy by shutting off the petroleum supplies.  But then again they are true believers.  Maybe nothing will stop them from trying to destroy the US economy and us.

I’m going back into some older pictures for my Photo of the Day.  It’s stuff I took with my Sony A-850 DSLR.  Some of it is more than ten years ago.  I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the great quality of a lot of the files.  And it’s been a nostalgic experience seeing some of the people and places that were around back then.

Well, that’s enough rambling for now.  More organized posting to follow.

I will be AWOL for half of today on special assignment.  But I promise to get back to work later this afternoon.  In the meantime look at the current results of this recent site poll.  Less than a third of participants have an optimistic opinion on the future of this country.  I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.  After all in my gut I kind of agree with them.  But never say die.

28SEP2021 – OCF Update

Well, the visit was a wonderful time and the guest is winging his way back west.  Pardon my lack of output for the last week.  Family comes first.  That’s the law.

But now I’ll start doing my work again.  I intend to do a reasonable job looking at the former Eastern bloc countries for signs of a reasonable fall back if the Right fails us altogether here in America.  It seems insane to even think of that former prison camp as a haven of freedom but there are some indications that it’s true.  Here’s another interview Tucker Carlson did with Poland’s president.  Eastern Europe apparently hasn’t been overwhelmed by woke idiots yet.  Gives me hope.

It’s nice to see that the media is admitting that Biden’s job approval rating is tanking.  Confidentially I’m shocked they allowed the truth to peak through even a little.  But the thing I’m waiting for is when Sinema and Manchin see the light and discover that the shenanigans in the Reconciliation Bill, the illegal alien amnesty and the other atrocities, are just good old American horse sense after all.  And after that I expect to see Demntia Joe’s job approval numbers to sky rocket like a winter COVID spike.

And speaking of COVID it looks like Florida’s Delta spike has returned to baseline.  Congratulations to Gov. DeSantis for hanging tough while the press and the Biden administration slandered him.  Hopefully it will be an example for the rest of the red state governors going forward.

One thing I realized this week is that just because we live in a tyranny doesn’t mean we should just stop enjoying life.  At the very least we need to be coming up with work arounds to enjoy our lives despite the road blocks the Left throws at us.

 

18SEP2021 – OCF Update

Yesterday’s visit has thrown me completely off schedule.  I just finished off a week’s worth of quotes and photos but I haven’t put together a single post in over a day.  Well, a happy get together of friends is always a positive so I’ll have to do my best to catch up as best I can.

I heard some reports on just how awful parts of New York City had become.  One particularly disturbing aspect is the prevalence of mentally disturbed homeless men.  This has made certain areas of Manhattan no-go zones for women and the infirm.  Another report that was interesting is a trend by gang members to perform daytime reconnaissance of likely robbery targets and then perform a coordinated attack at night on several locations simultaneously thus overloading an already degraded police response.  In one of these attacks a victim refused to hand over his expensive watch and was shot for his trouble.  The police have stopped reporting a lot of the robbery.  It’s too prevalent to note.  They’re concentrating on the assaults and killings.

There was a spirited discussion about the outcome of the anti-police campaign going on in the cities.  Someone noted that even though the cities have changed course and are attempting to fill the vacancies in their police departments, candidates are not forthcoming.  Apparently it’s just not worth the risk of being prosecuted by an ungrateful city government for doing their jobs.

I said that regardless of any individual failings of police officers the attacks on law and order were an existential threat to our society.  I stated my opinion that the police should walk away from these places all together.  I said that complete lawlessness should be fostered in these places for as long as it takes for the people who voted for all this to get all the anarchy they could possibly want and then some.  I finished by saying I fervently hope that my home town burns more or less to the ground.  That will be the only thing that teaches these people what their philosophy truly stands for.

Then we stopped for a very satisfying meal of spaghetti puttanesca and assorted cold sandwiches.  After that we discussed the relative merits of various Humphrey Bogart movies.  Yesterday I was partial to, “To Have and Have Not.”  Others disagreed and sided with “The Big Sleep” or “The Maltese Falcon.”  So we put on the “Big Sleep” and  marveled at just how many pretty girls Bogey had throwing themselves at him.  Carmen, Mrs. Rutledge, the librarian, the bookstore girl, the cabbie, the hat check girls.  Looking at Bogey it seemed incomprehensible.  But life is not always sensible.  For instance, how could I explain how I managed to rope Camera Girl in?  Sometimes fact is stranger than fiction.

And before the visit broke up we planned some kind of gathering between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  After all, family commitments made those occasions just too hard to work around.  Whereas between them was a few weeks when everyone else would be reeling from Thanksgiving dinner and unlikely to compete for time.

So, it’s no excuse for my tardiness writing here but at least it’s put me in a good mood for tackling my various on-line and real world chores.  Now to dissect Dementia Joe’s latest debacle.

13SEP2021 – OCF Update – This”N”That

I read some of Bush II’s 9/11 speech.  Boy, he’s really either an idiot or a liar.  Or maybe both.  That man was given all the support any president ever had and he abused it in a way that was criminal.  I gave him every benefit of the doubt and he failed us every single way he could.  He should just shut up and disappear.  With Biden, Obama, W and the Clintons all at one place at the same time it’s a shame that the Earth didn’t split open and swallow them all up once and for all.  What a better world it would be.

Another beautiful early September day.  The dragonflies are in a frenzy eating all the mosquitoes and gnats that fill the air and at night the bats take over, flitting around in the air like dive bombers.

 

Camera Girl’s gardens are essentially done.  Too much rain this year stunted the plants and curtailed the amount of produce she got.  A very strange year in terms of weather.  We closed up the pool last week and now I have to concentrate on repairing all the myriad things that break around here.  I’ve got wood damage on the garage wall, the lower balcony railing and the outside stair railing.  The pool fence needs shoring up and the poison ivy has to be beaten back in a number of places.  Ah the joy of country living.

Wednesday is the Republican Party monthly meeting in my area.  I’m not sure whether I should just go there to listen or leap up on a table and start into a Henry V speech.

Or maybe I’ll just listen to what they actually do there.

Some family visits coming up and a big party at the beginning of October so good stuff to keep me occupied.  There are kids’ birthdays and some photography outings planned and lots of other diversions so maybe I can forget for a part of the time that I live in Dementia Joe’s America.  Is this still the “Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave?  It doesn’t appear so.  Maybe we’ll have to change the name.

Well let’s hope tomorrow has happier news to consider.

11SEP2021 – OCF Update

What a beautiful day.  Late summer has an amazing feel to it.  There’s almost a stillness.  As if it’s a pause before the descent.  Most of the plants are still alive but they’re almost ready to give up.  I walked around the yard and the gardens and the woods.  Sort of fixing it in my mind’s eye before the leaves change color and the flowers all dry up.

I thought about writing a 9/11 post today and decided not to.  Maybe a different day I’ll have something worth saying but today I’d rather not even think about it.  It’s too bitter.

I’m very curious to see what kind of trouble Biden tries to make for DeSantis.  That should be pivotal to where all of this will be going.  Will we endure a forever pandemic or will the free areas break free of the charade and move on?

I hope everyone enjoys this beautiful day and puts it to some good use.  I’ve got to take apart a pen that we were using for an outdoor rabbit enclosure.  Petey boy nipped one of the grandkids so out he went.  I’m glad he’s gone.  He was a loafer who didn’t pull his own weight around here.  But for Camera Girl’s sake I kept it to myself.  Let this be an object lesson to the hamster and the guinea pigs.  You are expendable.  So toe the line.

08SEP2021 – OCF Update – This’N’That

First up, the ZMan manages to have a lot of fun with the Theranos fraud trial of Elizabeth Holmes.  And how could you not have fun with it?  With Holmes’ fake baritone voice and the complete collapse of her fake medical device company it has something for everyone on the right to cheer about.

Secondly, although Biden’s poll numbers are still underwater, so far, the Taliban and ISIS-K have somehow neglected to behead any Americans yet.  I attribute this to enormous monetary bribes from Dementia Joe.  But however it’s being done it may prevent Joe from being tarred and feathered by the public.  And I don’t discount the F— Joe Biden phenomenon.  But who knows?  Maybe Biden will survive his term in office.

And finally I noticed that the Delta Variant Spike in Florida and Texas is almost back down to the baseline in early July before it started.  Kudos to DeSantis and Abbott for not panicking.  Hard to say how long the COVID Iron Curtain will remain up in Blue America but just knowing there are areas outside its control is inspirational for us on the inside.

02SEP2021 – OCF Update

Today was a strange mixture of things.  Camera Girl’s car needed a new gas tank and heat shield so I had to give her a lift to pick it up (and pay for it!).  But to pay me back she used her hawk-like eyesight to find a full-grown praying mantis in her gardern and a spotted salamander in the pool.  After saving him and another one I did a photo shoot of the salamanders and the mantis today.

Later on my trusty wilderness guide spotted a rodent of unusual size (RUS) swimming around in the pond.  I started yelling, “Where, where?”  Which panicked it and I could see a rather large creature crashing through the undergrowth on the opposite side of the pond.  We both agreed it’s probably a beaver sizing up the pond for a brand new dam.  Long time readers will remember we had one of the varmints living in the pond a few years back.  He disappeared under what I consider suspicious circumstances.  We’ll see if history repeats itself.

I plan to spend some time with the photos I took today and put up a post on them.

I noticed that the Supreme court managed to override John Roberts’ veto to allow Texas to pass a restrictive abortion law.  This is sure to rile up the Dems.  They may eliminate the filibuster and pack the Supreme Court in retaliation.  Should make for maximum theater.  Good.  Let her rip.  Let’s bust the thing up as soon as possible.  Why pretend there are laws that the Dems would obey.

I see Biden’s underwater job approval rating has finally been allowed to show.  They’ve got the approval/disapproval as 45.4 / 49.4.  I think the real numbers are more like 40 / 60 but at least they’re reporting something close to real.  Well that’s what happens when you run away from a war zone and leave people behind.
