12DEC2021 – OCF Update – This’N’That

Good afternoon folks.

On the personal front yesterday was another enjoyable family get together without any nonsense about masks or social distancing or vaccine passes.  I had a chance to talk with my two older grandsons about which movies we would watch next week when they stay over.  We decided that Iron Man (the first installment) was probably the best of the bunch.  We decided to add Thor: Ragnorak just because I never saw it and they said it wasn’t the worst.  Camera Girl is beginning her holiday food planning.  Soon sacks of flour and barrels of sugar and butter will be delivered to the loading dock by petty dwarves and elvish butchers will transport cured hams and legs of lamb.  She also brought my attention that the grackles are beginning to swarm around the fields.  Remarkably, hundreds of these black birds will swirl down like a black tornado and cover the ground and the branches of the surrounding trees and find and eat every single grass seed and insect on the ground.  And then as if by magic the whole flock will fill the air and shoot off to a new spot and repeat the whole thing again.  I’ll have to try and get a photo of them taking off.

Some fairly interesting information on the “omicron variant.”  The data coming out of South Africa, which seems to be ground zero for this new strain continues to be extremely positive.  The transmisability of omicron is off the charts” meaning it is infecting people at a phenomenal rate.  The testing of the populations shows that 25% of the population has already been infected.  But the death rate is miniscule.  Since the beginning of the surge the daily death rate for the whole country is about 25 deaths a day.  Compare this to the earlier waves like the delta variant when the daily death rate was 500 to 600 deaths a day.  If the variant continues at this rate, the entire population of South Africa will have been exposed to it in a couple more weeks.  If the spike ends there without a serious death rate that will go a long way to convincing rational people that herd immunity to a weakened endemic strain has been reached there and soon worldwide.  At that point it will be prudent to dump your Pfizer stock.

This week saw a large number of articles out there about the growing anger over the abolition of law and order in the blue cities and states.  Reports from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, New York and especially Chicago range in tone from disbelief and fear to outrage and anger.  The escalating severity of the crime epidemic is finally registering with the people who are responsible for its existence.  Of course, they won’t do anything to fix the problem so my sympathy is basically nonexistent.  As I’ve stated they’ll get my attention when cannibalism is formalized in San Francisco.  Hopefully that  will be before Pelosi emigrates to Florida so she can be the main ingredient for a really lousy soup.

Well, things appear to be hotting up.  Dementia Joe has ordered the media to declare that inflation is not a problem.  For some reason the public has its doubts.  The courts have halted all his vaccine mandates and if the omicron variant fizzles by January Dopey Joe may have to declare victory against COVID again.  I don’t expect that to get him much applause.

So the prospects for a Merry Christmas are encouraging and if Manchin hangs tough on Build Back Better a Happy New Year is looking more possible.  Have a nice Sunday and I’ll post whatever seems interesting.

  • Urban Mayors and Prosecutors continue to get called out by their constituencies for the complete breakdown of law and order in their cities.
  • Federal judges continue to put together a patchwork of stays against Dementia Joe’s volley of vaccination mandates.
  • Fauci and company continue to call for a permanent vaccination regime.
  • Polls show Democrat and especially Biden popularity in free fall.
  • Economy mired in runaway inflation and the word recession beginning to be whispered in economic circles.
  • The omicron variant getting closer and closer to being confirmed as the benign end of the COVID-19 nightmare.
  • Jussie Smollett’s jury felt safe to admit reality in their verdict.  I’m sure this pathetic excuse for a man will get off with a slap on his limp wrist.  Even Dave Chappelle knew from the outset that no one could believe this story.  But it is comforting to see that fantasy is starting to recede even in places like Chicago.  Not that it will save these places but it’s comforting in the same way that knowing that gravity will keep the Earth in its orbit.

Yeah, it’s just another Friday.  Well, I did my chores yesterday, moved the snow off the driveways and cleared a few leaves out of the gutters.  Tomorrow’s another grandchild birthday party here with a rematch of the worst pool players under five feet tall.  Should be fun.

I’m sure the mainstream media will celebrate Pearl Harbor Day with endless recriminations about Japanese Americans being interred in California.  But I think it’s important for us in post-America to remember what a united nation can accomplish when its enemies give it no choice.  We may have the courage to unite against the enemies within who are determined to destroy us and our way of life.

Good morning my fellow normal people.  Welcome to another day of figuring out how to navigate Crazyland.  I looked through the articles this morning.  Same old, same old.  You know, things like Dementia Joe can’t figure out how gas prices went up and he’s asking the Justice Department to pummel the Law of Supply and Demand into submission.  Brilliant stuff like that.

I read an impassioned defense of woke-ism by some idiot who was re-animating slavery for the millionth time to justify anti-white racism.  So here we are a hundred and fifty plus years after slavery and somehow it’s still busy oppressing people left and right.

Alright, so let’s look at slavery.  Well, slavery is really bad.  So we had slavery here.  We don’t anymore but, yes we had slavery.  But you know what’s worse than slavery?  Cannibalism.  And you know where cannibalism was (and to some extent is) a real thing?  Africa.  All the way up to the present day cannibalism existed there.  Back in the 1800’s if two tribes had a war, the winners collected up the dead and the wounded and butchered them for lunch.

And there was plenty of slavery in Africa but when someone wasn’t that useful for work he went in the pot.  So if you were someone who was captured as a prisoner after a war and you had a choice between being sent on a hellish slave ship to a distant land to work your life away as a slave or have your throat cut and end up as stew which would you pick?

It’s a fair question.  I’m not sure what I’d do.  But these weren’t choices.  They were just the fortunes of war.  If the Arabs were offering a price for slaves that was above the market price for meat then the prisoners went on the boat.  If not they went in the pot.

The remarkable thing is we decided slavery was wrong on our own.  I think that alone is reason enough for all this woke nonsense to be refuted.  Comparing its track record to that of any other civilization that we know of, the Western world has been remarkably generous with other peoples.  The Arabs and the Turks kept slaves.  It never occurred to them to free them as a matter of moral duty.

Anyway it’s something to think about when the wokesters start yammering about slavery.  Of course I am waiting for cannibalism to emerge here.  I figure California or New York are the most likely places but who knows?  Maybe some artisanal entrepreneur right here in Dunwich could get the thing going.  They’ll probably put out a full-color magazine, well at least an e-zine, and maybe a cable show.  It really makes you think, doesn’t it.

I’m still suffering from the Omicron Variant.  I’m presently using a home-made ventilator to keep me alive.  It makes typing difficult but what can you do?  I went through the patent for Ivermectin and hope to whip up a batch after lunch but, once again, ventilator in the way.  The sun’s not out today so it’s pretty dreary here at the Compound.  In less than a month the winter Solstice will occur I’ll have to build the stone altar and sacrifice a shoggoth or a werewolf or maybe an ear of corn (inflation) at the appointed hour when the portal opens in the sky and Azathoth and the blind idiot pipers materialize in our space-time.  After they gorge themselves on the sacrifice, I’ll invite them in for a glass of eggnog and talk about what they’re planning for Christmas.  I hear Cthulhu already has his lights up and is inviting folks over to see them.  Considering his track record on eating guests, I think I’ll just wait till he puts up a photo on his site.

So I’ll have to be cured of this wretched virus by then or I’ll catch my death of cold outside.  I wonder what they’ll name the variants after they get up to Omega?  Anyway, I should have something interesting to write about later today.  Have a nice day.

27NOV2021 – OCF Update – The Curse Has Come Upon Me

Well it had to happen eventually.  That it held off until my Thanksgiving hosting was over last night was a gift I should appreciate.

I’m a little under the weather.  I blame the Omicron Variant.  I should never have gone on that Zimbabwe Big Game Safari but who could resist the thrill of shooting and stuffing the last Black Rhino in the world?  I will have him displayed in the smaller trophy room next to my Yeti and the Blue Whale that got stuck in my larger anchovy net.

Now that the first holiday food onslaught is done I will clear my thoughts for whatever new disasters Dementia Joe has planned for us this week.  They’re bound to be impressive.  With his colon cleared of all obstructions his mind will be razor sharp.  December promises to be a gaffe-tastic extravaganza.  My hope is for a cat fight between AOC and Pelosi on the floor of the House chamber.  My money is on that old bag Nancy.  I think she keeps a razor hidden in her fake eye.  AOC’s just not ready yet.

So stay tuned.  If I don’t succumb to the Bungle from the Jungle I’ll faithfully opine on the comedies of our times.

24NOV2021 – OCF Update – Holiday Hours

Well, we’ve reached the brink of the great feast and Camera girl is buzzing around like a bee cooking pies, cleaning here, there and everywhere.  Obviously I’ll have to try to appear busy myself or she’ll recruit me into this madness.

That being as it may, I anticipate a slowdown of output by me today and tomorrow.  If anything occurs that I just can’t resist ranting about I’ll pound something out but most of the nonsense going on currently can wait until I’ve had my turkey dinner and socialized with my descendants.

So I just want to wish all the readers a happy Thanksgiving.  I hope you have the chance to make the most of the long weekend and if it’s possible that you get to spend time with the people in your life who mean the most.  Enjoy the food!

22NOV2021 – OCF Update – Monday Maunderings

November 22nd 1963.  Everyone of my generation remembers this day as a nightmare.  The adults were in a panic over the death of President John Kennedy on the streets of Dallas.  I was in first grade at the time and the nuns were openly weeping which freaked the kids out.  Watching Walter Cronkite crying on tv reinforced the feeling that the world was coming apart.  But the country came together in solidarity.

November 22nd 2021.  News this morning that a crazed criminal purposefully drove his SUV through a crowd of children and their families watching a Christmas Parade.  Based on the killer’s social media profile it is strongly suspected that he is an anti-white bigot who probably wanted to strike back after the Rittenhouse acquittal.  Chances of the country coming together in solidarity not very likely.

I’ll confess that this incident has cancelled some of my recent enthusiasm.  Evil and crazy people will always be with us.  But what makes it disastrous is that there is no longer a consensus that they are the problem.  The current reflex is to blame the victim.  If only we had made the lunatic feel loved.  Maybe then he wouldn’t have killed so many.  Or even if he still would have killed them at least we wouldn’t take it so personally if we had grown to love him for the good natured homicidal maniac that he is.

So instead of giving this psychopath the electric chair which at least validates the idea that sociopaths need to be excluded from society we will be told that somehow all of this is our fault.  Those murdered children had it coming for being privileged white people.

Not a great way to start the week of Thanksgiving.

16NOV2021 – OCF Update – Thoughts for This Morning

A fine Tuesday morning in mid-November; cold, windy and bright sun.  A perfect day to be viewing the world from the warm side a of a window.  Camera Girl is her usual busy, efficient self.  I can hear her banging around some pots and pans in the kitchen.  She says the noise is incidental but I don’t know, I think she must enjoy the violence.  Maybe she’s thinking of me while she’s beating on them.

I took care of some paperwork and also approved some preventive maintenance on the heating system that needs to be completed before the heavy snows begin.  That one I should’ve done last week.  I can feel the snow in the air.  It won’t take much for a few inches to find its way onto the ground and that would make the work much harder.  But for someone as lazy as I am the fact that I’m not waiting for spring and hoping for the best is a major victory.  So, on the home front things aren’t too far off course.

Looking at the news articles I see more bad news for Dementia Joe.  The country rightly blames him for moronically shutting down oil production and thereby unleashing high energy cost inflation on the already suffering country.  The left-wing media is whistling past the graveyard trying to convince themselves that the infrastructure bill or the reconciliation bill will make everything go back to rainbows and unicorns and 2022 won’t be the bloody rout that everybody knows it will be.  But with $5 a gallon gas already here in parts of the country and with no place for the price to go but up Good Old Joe looks to be headed for single digit approval ratings sometime soon.

The consensus is Biden won’t run for re-election.  Well, duh!  And since Kamala is about as dumb as a hammer and half as popular as cancer there’s going to be one hell of a fight for the nomination.  And one of the best parts of it is that any white male Democrat who runs will be accused of racist misogyny just for running. Who knows?  Maybe Hillary will run again and we’ll get a 2016 rematch.  Oh, the fun that would be!

The Rittenhouse case has gone to the jury.  Whichever way it goes it will stand as another marker of when defending yourself from the mob became a crime.  Even if he’s vindicated, it’s just one more nail in the coffin of a free America.  A government sanctioned riot was burning down an American city and the only allowable choices for the blameless white populace is flee or stay and be assaulted, burned out or even murdered.  And if you resist, the full weight of the government is brought to bear to send you to prison.  And the media will help the process along by distorting the facts and egging on violent partisans to threaten the judge and jury into finding you guilty.

But seeing what a mess the idiotic Left is making of the government they stole is an invigorating experience.  If discontent became widespread enough there is always the chance that someone will take the opportunity to win over the people to real reform.  And not just the Left-sanctioned Bush version where nothing happens except tax cuts for the rich and foreign wars for us.

07NOV2021 – OCF Update – This ’N’ That

It’s been busy over here at the Compound.  We had the family together for a kid’s birthday party last night and all that entails.  It was a lively gathering featuring fake fossil dinosaur egg dissecting, laser tag, billiards and the traditional American pinata event.  I attempted to educate some of my descendants on the finer points of using a pool cue but the new method they adhered to involves holding it sort of like a javelin.  But they managed to have fun despite my pedagogic shortcomings.  It was nice to see this new generation of cousins making their own fun without the necessity of staring at a phone screen or drowning out their surroundings with some insipid music.  There’s still some hope for the future.

I’ve been glad to see that some of the folks on the site have contributed posts.  Just lately Neil and Tom and Jason and Chemist and the Fat Man have provided excellent content which I’m always in need of.  I’ll take this opportunity to repeat that any of the readers out there that has something he’d like to share should leave a comment or send me an e-mail to orionscoldfire@charterdotnet and let me know.  And it doesn’t have to have anything to do with politics.  Book, music and movie reviews are excellent topics.  Chances are it’ll fit right in with the spirit of how I run things and will add that much more interest to the site.  After all, even I get tired of listening to my fascinating words sometime.

Now that the Democrats were panicked by the 2021 elections into forcing the infrastructure bill through ahead of the “reconciliation” bill without the help of the “Squad,” I expect the pollsters to start claiming that now Joe Biden is incredibly popular again.  But let’s face it, gas is approaching $4 a gallon, food is outrageously expensive, people can’t buy the necessities they need and Christmas presents won’t be available for the holiday.  With all that and the vaccine mandates how could Dementia Joe not be an awfully popular guy?

Probably passing the infrastructure bill will remove the last bit of leverage that the Democrats have over Manchin.  Despite my earlier pessimism about it I now expect the reconciliation bill to die a merciful death over the Christmas recess and in January all those reps and senators will be trying to get reelected.  So that may be the end of Biden’s bill signing career.  I can hardly believe our luck.

I’ll have to say, the Democrat’s taking it on the chin in the elections and backing down from the reconciliation stance they took has cheered me up a lot more than I imagined it would.  Maybe it’s the holidays coming up and the death of the COVID panic that has me so happy.  But for whatever reason I just don’t seem as willing to spread the doom and gloom right now.  So, you’ll have to forgive me if I’m unpleasantly cheerful.  Expect to see more movie and book reviews coming up.  I’m in the mood to write some stuff more interesting than the depressing politics we’re surrounded by.  And I’ll continue my death march through season three of Star Trek.  Enjoy your Sunday.

05NOV2021 – OCF Update – photog’s Chores Day

We’ve had a decided break in the weather.  Each night dips slightly below the freezing point (27F to 31F) but each day is sunny and in the low fifties.  I’ve used this warning from the weather gods to finish up some of my more time and weather sensitive chores.  So today I mowed the grass.  That’s the last cut for the year.  Now it’s time to winterize the mowers and move the snow blower to the front of the shed and try it out.  I’ve already swept and filled the pool shed with all the pool furniture.

I’ve removed the gigantic air conditioner from the first floor window using these cool three wheeled rollers, a big yard cart and some bricks to move it without tweaking my back (which is key).  I felt like Pharoah’s  construction engineer moving monolithic basalt blocks to build the pyramid.  Well, maybe that’s an exaggeration but I did learn a thing or two from the riggers I used to hire to install the really heavy equipment when we needed it done carefully.  There’s nothing like dropping a twenty thousand pound custom chiller package to blow the project budget.  Watching those guys do their job with the minimum of power equipment was highly interesting.  It took an experienced old guy, several block and tackle set ups, 4X4 and 8X8 wooden “shims,”  heavy duty pry bars, and one or two young guys with unbelievably strong arms, legs and backs.  It truly is an art and not a science.

To say I was mowing the grass would be an exaggeration.  Mostly I was shredding leaves.  My more fastidious neighbors collect these shredded leaves and mulch them because they have “lawns.”  I have fields that are mostly covered with various grass-like vegetation.  Cleaning up leaves when you live on the leeward side of a forest is sort of delusional.  I make a last pass about this time of the year and stop thinking of the grass until it starts annoying me in late May.

I still have a card full of projects to do but the grandkids are coming tomorrow.  We’re hosting a birthday party and I’ll have chores for that and also I’m too lazy to do too many things all at once.

Today I sent off my Sony LA-EA3  and LA-EA4 adapters to a used photo equipment store.  This will mostly pay for the LA-EA5 adapter I intend to use with Sony A7 IV camera I intend to buy in January.  Looking at what I could have sold them for on eBay gave me a pang of sadness.  In fac the two of them would more than paid for the new adapter with something left over to add to my fund for the camera but fussing with eBay is something I hate doing.  And buying there is bad enough.  I hear selling is fraught with problems and real risk.  So half a loaf for me.

I enjoyed the gag of calling my town Dunwich.  I think I’ll make that a continuing saga.  I like spoofing on Lovecraft’s mythical New England.  Expect to see more eldritch horror and small town minutia in the future.
