21OCT2020 – OCF Update

The last week or so has been fun for me because I’ve had some time off to keep up with posting on the site and reading around the web on what’s going on.  And not just the election.  We really are living in interesting times.  And not just for the worse.  All kinds of opportunities are out there if you have the time and energy to dig into them.

I’ve been very encouraged by the quality of the posts that the guest contributors have provided.  Of course War Pig is always interesting but Tyler, Jason, Tom, Charlemagne Really and the Fat Man have each provided something interesting to add value to the site.  And I want to encourage others readers to think about submitting something.  If you’ve always wanted to have your say then leave a comment here or send an e-mail to orionscoldfire (at) charter.net and get in touch with me.  I don’t just need political posts.  Any kind of general interest stuff will be considered.

And I like that the commenting is picking up.  I need the feedback even if it’s disagreement.  There are going to be a lot of challenging times ahead and getting multiple points of view will be valuable.  And by the same token readers should be willing to consider that we don’t have all the answers.

Well, onward and upward.  Here comes the future, ready or not.

Jeff Toobin Gets a Timeout for a Personal Foul

Due to a COVID related telecommunication miscalculation, Jeffrey Toobin finds he will now have more time on his hands to document Donald Trump’s moral shortcomings.  Isn’t poetic justice amazing.

You can’t make this stuff up.  To paraphrase from the classic Seinfeld episode on this topic Jeffrey is no longer “King of his Castle, nor Lord of his Domain.”

What Comes After

As we live through what seems like a never-ending series of ever more outrageous assaults on sanity, we might be forgiven for thinking that the lunatics are now in permanent control of the asylum.  But I’m not so sure that is so.

I sense that the madness that’s been unleashed by the Left to undermine the re-election of President Trump is a very desperate gambit.  After all, look at the damage that the Left has done to the areas that are the centers of their control.  New York, Chicago and Los Angeles have been shut down and ravaged by roaming bands of violent lunatics for months.  The small businesses in their states have been bankrupted.  The economies in those places haven’t recovered from the COVID lockdowns and the normal people living in those places have been exposed to the ruthless and arbitrary exercise of violence that the woke mob has been empowered to wield by their elected officials.  And the woke anti-white agenda is now being fully implemented in schools and businesses across the country.

While it is highly unlikely that places like California or New York would flip their political affiliation to the Republicans this year it is much more likely that places like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania will.  Even places like Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico have that potential sometime in the future.  And the reason is not so much that this or that politician is running for office.  It’s that people are beginning to see that they are being played.

If Donald Trump can re-ignite the economy by simply taking a pro-American stance on trade deals and tax incentives that encourage corporations to hire American workers then it is clear that the anemic economy that has been strangling American families for more than half a century is not the inevitable result of the world we live in.  It is a plan that the political and corporate elites have chosen to inflict on us.  They long ago calculated that replacing the middle class with an underclass beholden to them for the crumbs they would provide, would permanently shift the balance of power in this country into their hands.  Bringing in an endless stream of immigrants could be used to lower wage expectations while providing the votes needed to overwhelm populist reaction to the outrages being perpetrated against the citizens.

And with the Democrats and the Republicans in collusion with this plan there was little that Americans could do.  No matter who they voted into office they got the same result.  When the Democrats had the White House, it was socialism and cultural Marxism on steroids.  When the Republicans were there it was foreign wars and slightly disguised socialism and cultural Marxism.  We knew something was wrong but how it was being done wasn’t clear to the average non-progressive man in the street.  All we knew was even when we won, we lost.

But then Donald Trump came along and he pulled back the curtain and showed us the fraud.  He dared to expose the illegal immigration scam and the Anti-American global economy scam that the Republicans were colluding in and people understood.  He got elected and he turned the economy around.  And he was attacked by literally every power center in this country and around the world.  The FBI, CIA, NSA, the State Department, the IRS, the EPA, parts of the leadership of the Armed Forces, all the Blue States like California, New York and their state courts and attorneys general, all the federal court judges appointed by liberals in both parties, Google, Facebook, Twitter, the NY Times, Washington Post, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, every college faculty and administration, Wall Street, most corporations, the Chinese Communist Party, the European Union, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Nations and every NGO and non-profit organization that fronts for socialist policies.  Even Republican leaders like House Speaker Paul Ryan worked against the President’s agenda.  And none of them were able to destroy him and he was able to push through many of his policy goals almost single handedly.  And then the Chinese unleashed a bioweapon on the country and he had to negotiate the insanity of shutting down the United States economy and restarting it again with a lunatic like Anthony Fauci spouting nonsense and undermining any reasonable efforts to find a workable solution to the pandemic.

But when even that wasn’t enough the Left reactivated BLM and Antifa and allowed them to burn down the downtowns of the Democrat controlled cities.  They passed down the talking points to political and corporate mouthpieces and we were lectured to and berated by our betters on the sins against diversity and inclusion that we were all guilty of by birth.  And those who live in blue states know that the propaganda war to shame anyone born white is in full swing.  But I think the jig is up.

I think we have finally reached the point where anyone who isn’t hopelessly stupid or unshakably beholden to the Left is aware that all of this woke nonsense is a pack of pathetic lies.  Cops aren’t roaming the streets looking to murder black people.  George Floyd and whatever other black criminal du jour they find resisting arrest aren’t innocent victims.  At best they are victims of their own criminality that makes them statistically most likely to finally end up in the hands of the rare police officer who is also criminally irresponsible.  America isn’t a hotbed of white supremacists.  Women aren’t victims of discrimination and sexual deviants have been provided with more tolerance than anyone could hope to justify.

I think the result of all this is people aren’t going to be afraid that the Left will think they’re racists, misogynists, homophobes or any other label that basically has been discredited by the excesses of the Left over the last hundred years of shrieking.  No matter what they do the Left is going to call them that anyway.  What is there to lose by at least standing our ground now?  Nothing.

So, the point has been reached.  Intimidation by threatening to call us names like racist won’t work anymore.  It’s all in the open.  Now we’ll find out who is the stronger horse, us or them.  That will determine whether the lunatics get to keep control of the asylum or not.  I’m betting on us.

20OCT2020 – Quote of the Day

There are many more shining qualities in the mind of man, but there is none so useful as discretion; it is this, indeed, which gives a value to all the rest, which sets them at work in their proper times and places, and turns them to the advantage of the person who is possessed of them. Without it, learning is pedantry, and wit impertinence; virtue itself looks like weakness; the best parts only qualify a man to be more sprightly in errors, and active to his own prejudice.

Dead of Night – An OCF Classic Movie Review

“Dead of Night” is a 1945 British film that consists of a group of characters thrown together in a home and each tells a supernatural story.  Then these characters turn out to be the subject of another character’s dream.  And finally, the whole story turns out to be part of an endless recursive dream nightmare, a dream within a dream, within a dream like the images produced by two mirrors facing each other.  The only actor I recognized was Mervyn Johns who played Bob Cratchit in the 1951 movie Scrooge.

The stories include a young girl meeting the ghost of a boy who was murdered a century ago in the old house where the girl is visiting.  Another story involves a race car driver who while recovering from a crash has a vision of a hearse driver inviting him into the coffin.  Later he sees the same man as a bus conductor inviting him to board the bus.  He backs away and as he watches the bus drive off and crashes killing everyone aboard.  A third story involves a bedroom mirror possessed by a murderous spirit.  The fourth story is a comical golf ghost story.  And the final story is about an evil living ventriloquist dummy.

Back in the underlying scene the character who recognizes the other characters from his dream commits a murder and then somehow finds himself inside the five stories we have just witnessed in a mish-mash of the stories until finally he awakes in his own bedroom.  His wife consoles him for having another nightmare.  He then receives a phone call that sends him to the house where the earlier story takes place.  And the whole thing circles round to the introductory scene.

Despite the theatricality of some of the scenes the movie works.  Of course, it’s all ridiculous but the atmosphere of the movie is claustrophobic enough to produce the requisite discomfort in the audience that makes a ghost story work.  Admittedly the golf story is a bit of a distraction from this mood but there are enough creepy moments and characters to make this movie a success.  I’ll have to say that the fact that the cast look like ordinary people and lack the movie star good looks of an American production actually goes a long way to aiding the illusion we are inside the story with them.

Like many British films from the middle of the 20th century the story had to depend on a good script and competent actors instead of expensive sets and special effects to immerse the viewers in the story.  And because of that this movie still works as well today as it did back then.  And it stands up after repeated viewing.  I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.  The British love a good ghost story and this one has several.  Dead of Night probably won’t work for those who depend on comic book special effects to tell a supernatural story.  But if you have an imagination you may like this one.
