Separating Our Problems into Actionable Buckets – Part 1
One of the problems with our present situation is that it’s not just one problem. And worse than that, it’s not as if all of these problems we have are arranged in such a way that any single action undermines all of them like some kind of keystone that once removed destabilizes the whole structure that is arrayed against us. And maybe there is such a thing that can neutralize the Left’s hold on our country but if it does exist it probably involves the use of brute force.
So, putting that aside let’s talk about how we can act on separate aspects of our problems with the Left to minimize the damage that it does to us and allows us to maximize the quality of our lives.
To do that we might look at the different impacts that the Left has on us and order them from worst to least damaging. For instance, recently the well known beauty pageants like Miss America and Miss World have begun allowing “transwomen” to compete. As horrendous as the idea of this is, the actual damage to my life is relatively limited. I don’t think I’ve ever watched more than the clips of the winner crying and hugging the other contestants as if she didn’t hate all their guts. So even though it is an abomination I’m not losing any sleep over it. And that’s good because my chances of stopping castrati (I assume) from participating in the swimsuit competition are decidedly closer to none rather than slim.
On the other hand, if I had children in a school that announced that they were going to indoctrinate them in critical race theory in general and transgenderism in particular, I’d be extremely upset about the damage that would do and I would be looking for a way to avert this situation. I would look into protesting to the school board and failing action from this, I would look for a private school that would preclude this sort of propaganda.
So notice the difference. If a minor problem for which no real solution exists can be detached from a major problem for which a real solution does exist, I can stop moaning and groaning about the transgender nightmare and do something about the problem.
So that’s the approach, look for how a general problem impacts me and mine and concentrate on solutions that address that specific impact. Sure, if a general solution appears that would be great. If Bruce Jenner gets his sanity back and denounces the Kardashians and declares himself a castrated man and stops wearing dresses and high heels and begs America to force all “trans-people” to undergo electroconvulsive treatment until they snap out of their insanity then maybe we won’t have to worry about psychos indoctrinating our children. But I think it would be wise not to wait for that.
So that’s the approach I want to take with this idea. Find the particular critical problem and look for an actionable and effective solution. Feel free in the comments to provide any examples of these kinds of problems and the practical solutions you can think of. It would also be useful to list which critically important problems currently lack effective solutions altogether.
Quote – The Vegetable Motif
“A costermonger, roused, is a terrible thing. I had never seen the proletariat really stirred before, and I’m bound to say it rather awed me. I mean, it gave you some idea of what it must have been like during the French Revolution
From every corner of the hall there proceeded simultaneously the sort of noise which you hear, they tell me, at one of those East End boxing places when the referee disqualifies the popular favourite and makes the quick dash for life. And then they passed beyond mere words and began to introduce the vegetable motif.
I don’t know why, but somehow I had got it into my head that the first thing thrown at Tuppy would be a potato. One gets these fancies. It was, however, as a matter of fact, a banana, and I saw in an instant that the choice had been made by wiser heads than mine. These blokes who have grown up from childhood in the knowledge of how to treat a dramatic entertainment that doesn’t please them are aware by a sort of instinct just what to do for the best, and the moment I saw that banana splash on Tuppy’s shirtfront I realized how infinitely more effective and artistic it was than any potato could have been.
Not that the potato school of thought had not also its supporters. As the proceedings warmed up, I noticed several intelligent-looking fellows who threw nothing else.
The effect on young Tuppy was rather remarkable. His eyes bulged and his hair seemed to stand up, and yet his mouth went on opening and shutting, and you could see in a dazed, automatic way he was still singing, “Sonny Boy.”
Then, coming out of his trance, he began to pull for the shore with some rapidity. The last seen of him, he was beating a tomato to the exit by a short head.”

18MAY2021 – OCF Update – Quiet News Day
Israel and Hamas lobbing missiles at each other? Check
Gas and food prices soaring across US? Check.
COVID lunatics warning of a surge if we don’t keep our kids masked in school? Check.
Joe Biden spouting nonsense about vaccination? Check.
Federal Gestapo searching for white supremacists in Red States and the military? Check.
Yep, situation normal all Biden-ed up.
Sort of a slow news day. But a nice day for swinging a grandchild in a swing.
I received some pushback on my statement that “Treasure Island” was the finest boys’ adventure story. A dissenting opinion was raised in favor of Jules Verne’s “In Search of the Castaways.” I have to confess I’ve never read it. I’ll correct that situation soon and report back my opinion.
On my regular Tuesday morning zoom with “the boys” I was told that even in Boston, the very Hub of the Woke Universe, people were attending a Red Sox game without masks! And this is in advance of the official end of the mask mandate scheduled in a few weeks. Could it be that even here in the heart of Blue America the captives have grown weary of wearing their shackles? Shocking. What will all the millions of Karens do?
Miracle of miracles, by a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court agreed that the police can’t confiscate a man’s guns without a warrant to do so. I hear that a major abortion law in the South will be reviewed by SCOTUS soon. I’m not very hopeful based on what I know of the Roberts court.
My favorite Biden-ism of the week was Dementia Joe warning those refusing vaccines by saying ” Ultimately, Those Who Are Not Vaccinated Will “End Up Paying The Price.” What a dope. I was looking at the mortality rate for Sweden that rejected masks and the rest of the nonsense and comparing it to the United States. It currently is 1,807 deaths per million population for the US versus 1,408 for Sweden. Apparently if we had done nothing our numbers might actually be better. But certainly no worse. Fauci should be put in stocks and pelted with garbage by anyone who has the notion to do so. And so should Cuomo, Biden and the rest of the idiots.
Well, that’s enough for now.

Putting Things in Perspective – Part 2 – Civil War Analogy
After discussing the Revolutionary War last time, the next major historical comparison I’d like to look at is the one comparing our situation to the mid-nineteenth century American Civil War. In this comparison the Left is equated with the historical “North” and the Right with the “South.”
We’ll start with things that do align in this comparison. The cultural and intellectual elites of the Abolitionist Movement do line up well with the modern Left. In fact, there is probably a decent number among today’s Woke Left that are direct descendants from the Abolitionists themselves. And certain historians believe that the culture of New England and its exports to areas like the Great Lakes area and the Pacific Coast states have preserved the viewpoint and authority of the nineteenth century elites from that region of the country. From that point of view there is a certain direct analogy between the Northern Abolitionist Leadership and the Modern Left.
But let’s look at some of the other factors. First of all, let’s look at the driving force of the cause. The Abolitionists wanted to end slavery. It’s hard to over stress just how popular this cause was. It was evident to even many Southerners that slavery was an evil that could not be justified by its benefits to the economy. For a country whose whole existence is expressed in the single word freedom, slavery is anathema. Therefore, the moral underpinnings of the Civil War were very powerful. Certainly, the Southern States were able to muster a justification for the practice of slavery but at no time did this justification convince anyone outside of the South and not even everyone inside. So, the abolition of slavery was a cause that resonated broadly around the United States outside of the Deep South.
But look at the current agenda of the Woke Left. It is a rag tag grab bag of radical ideas and identity politics grievances that isn’t even rationally self-consistent. Feminism and even lesbian feminism are at odds with transgender “rights.” And the BLM agenda of eliminating the police won’t stand scrutiny by other communities like Asians and Hispanics now that they see that it equates to wholesale criminal anarchy. It is far from certain that even in the “Blue States” that the whole agenda of the radical Left is entirely acceptable. This is a major difference between the Civil War situation. The Left’s agenda today is far less popular than the abolition of slavery was back then.
The next consideration is the location of each “side.” The Confederacy was never able to convince even some of the slave states to join in its revolt. The border states Kentucky, Missouri and Maryland never seceded. And even an area of Virginia refused to join and “seceded” from Virginia to become West Virginia and remain with the Union. Inside the free states there weren’t any large areas that would have joined the South or opposed the abolition of slavery for the most part.
But look at today. Instead, the Red and Blue States are only an indicator of the majority status of each side in a state. But geographically we can see that this is really a city versus countryside polarization. The cities in the Red States are full of Leftists for the most part and even deep Blue States like California and New York have rural areas that are completely red. This definitely helps our side. These concentrated populations of Leftists work well when you want to cheat during an election but it doesn’t help much when you are trying to control a population that is diffused over thousands of square miles in some cases. Controlling the back country especially when it is adjacent to a Red State may turn out to be an impossible job.
And finally in the 1860’s the slave states were so afraid of a Republican holding the White House that they seceded before Lincoln could even assemble his government. We’ve seen two truly woke administration already. Obama and now Biden. And Biden is using all the force of the federal government to destroy our way of life. But what it seems to show is that determined state leaders can use the state laws to combat these Woke orders and possibly nullify their effects without having to leave the Union. This is still a preliminary evaluation but I think it is worth seeing if the lessons learned from Sanctuary Cities can be applied to other issues like Second Amendment Rights and First Amendment Freedoms.
So, from the point of view comparison, it seems to me that our side is significantly better off in the present situation than the South was during the Civil War. And that is definitely a thing to be happy about.
