Oakland Police Chief: Crime Out of Control

When the Black Chief of Police tells you that defunding the police is what’s killing people at a frightening rate you might want to reconsider defunding.

Of course he doesn’t mention that when you delegitimize and demonize the police as white criminals they probably aren’t going to go out of their way to prevent crime.  They’ll just sweep up the bodies afterward and fill out the paperwork.

But don’t worry it’s California, they won’t listen to him.

Max Morton Reviews Washington’s “National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism”

In his article Max states, “Having spent some time in the intelligence community, I was puzzled as to how agencies with the mission of foreign intelligence collection—and which are statutorily and explicitly restricted from conducting domestic intelligence operations—are now writing Intelligence Community Assessments on U.S. citizens residing on U.S. soil.”

But based on the definitions in the report Max concluded that he himself along with most of his friends and even most of the people in his town would now fall under the category of “anti-government domestic extremist” and that the government considers that, “America’s greatest threat comes from domestic extremists.”

He goes on to say, “I spent the large part of my career in military special operations units and intelligence agencies tracking down foreign terrorists and threats to America. I came away from that experience with the knowledge that when the United States of America declares you to be the most dangerous threat it faces, your life is about to drastically change for the worse. The Biden regime has just explicitly told conservative and independent Americans that they are that threat.”

Well, I guess since I mostly agree with what Max Morton writes,  I must be a anti-government domestic extremist too.  Well, it’s good to know where you stand.

He finishes off by saying, “The Biden regime has just explicitly told conservative and independent Americans that they are that threat.

Now that the regime has made that clear, citizens should mobilize their elected representatives at both the state and federal levels to push back against this domestic terrorism strategy. At the state level, elected officials should use their considerable constitutional authority to resist the administration’s plans.

The alarming presumptions about criminal thoughts and motivations are likely unconstitutional, and should undergo rigorous scrutiny by the relevant oversight bodies. And Congress, instead of enacting new laws to authorize this dystopian overreach, should explicitly forbid it, for this administration and every one after.

If not, then we should all prepare ourselves for what comes next.

Pretty grim stuff.  I thought it was an interesting read.

28JUN2021 – Photography – Focus Stack – Crown of Thorns

Here’s another focus stack.  Since this plant has plenty of depth this is a more interesting study.  The range of focus extends from the screen behind the plant all the way forward to the closest branches.  By the way, setting up that sheet was more of an obstacle than everything else I had to do for this shot.  It’s one of Camera Girl’s old bedsheets and I had to rig a couple of heavy chairs onto the table behind the plant and move stuff around.  It tells me I guess I should get a screen for this kind of thing.

In the second shot you can begin to see the limitations of the Affinity software I used for post processing.  I can begin to see some brightness problems showing up in the spines.  Thanks to Camera Girl for the loan of her Crown of Thorns houseplant and bedsheet.

Dave Freer Over at Mad Genius Club Has a Good Essay on Writing

Dave talks about what it’s like reviewing your own book for publication and feeling like the whole thing is poor.  I’m writing a book myself and I have to say I understand exactly what he’s saying.  The urge to re-write whole sections is almost overpowering.

Seeing other people pound out multiple books in a year is humbling.  I get side-tracked continuously between blogging and photography and just trying to keep my real life floating along.  Kudos to those who do all that and also create good fiction too.

A good read.

Dragon Man – The Human Family Tree is Getting More Crowded and More Interesting

A recent report describes a very well preserved skull that was discovered in China in the 1930’s during the Japanese occupation and hidden away until the last couple of years and then handed over to paleontologists.  It is believed to be the skull of one of the species of human relatives of modern man.  It is a “hominin” species that is being described as Homo longi, or Dragon Man.

The skull is very reminiscent of the Neanderthal Man skull although it seems even closer to modern man in ways.  It has the prominent eye ridges, larger teeth and large brain cavity that characterizes Neanderthals.  But the face is flatter, the jaw more human-like.

What is in dispute is whether this represents a complete skull of the Denisovan Man.  The Denisovans were another early human species whose remains and DNA have been found in Siberia and Tibet.  The fossil evidence available is currently very limited.  It consists of a few finger bones and a small amount of jaw and teeth.  But interestingly, there is enough DNA material available to show that Denisovans have left some of their DNA in us and in fact cross-bred with both humans and Neanderthals.

The speculation is that the first homo sapiens or its close ancestor reached the north and split into two populations the Neanderthals ended up in Europe and the Near East.  The Denisovans went East and inhabited Asia.  And this is a simplification because there are several other species of hominins that were still extant in Eurasia.  Homo erectus, H. luzonensis, H. heidelbergensis and H. naledi existed in that same period of time (from a million years ago to fairly recently).

Later waves of Homo sapiens would then meet up with this first wave and then coexist, compete, mix with and ultimately displace these near relatives.  What is clear from this story line is that humans have constantly evolved to adapt to their changing environment as they migrated from Africa to Eurasia.  What is less comfortable for people today to discuss is the amount of genetic diversity that exists in the family of man.  In any other animal group, we would describe the existing races of man as species, or at least subspecies, that intergrade into each other at the edges of their geographical ranges.  And of course, the reality of the cosmopolitan nature of modern human civilization means that all these subspecies are rapidly mixing to form new variations.  And what the DNA evidence has shown us is that the migratory tendencies of human groups have repeatedly stirred the pot of human genetic groupings.  When the people that would become the ancestors of the Indo-Europeans began their treks westward and eastward, they spread their language and their genetic material from India to Britain.  Similar migrations have occurred right into nineteenth century with the colonization by the Europeans around the world.  And the present mania over diversity has further mixed things up.

But regardless of the semantic description of human genetics, it is fascinating to see just how dynamic our lineage is.  Apparently, the changes in terrain, climate and food resources have quickly selected for changes in the human form and physiology.  Some people have claimed that human technology has now eliminated the possibility of human physical evolution.  But that is simply not true.  In the last ten thousand years the human brain has evolved based on selection for complex thinking needed in more complex human societies.  This leads to further refinements and selects for individuals that can survive and thrive in the complex and changing environment that is our human world.  What this tells us is that we become what we need to be in order to adapt to our environment.  What this tells me is that we need to choose wisely how we organize our society.  It would be a shame to see our remarkable species end up as an ant colony.

27JUN2021 – Biden’s America

I was looking at the headlines today:

  • Amid Crime Spike, Dems’ Future Rests on Eric Adams
  • The Democrats Are Already Losing the Next Election
  • ‘Not My Intent.’ Biden Walks Back Veto Remarks in Bid to Salvage Deal
  • Biden’s Push for Equity in Govt Hits Legal & Political Roadblocks
  • Biden Cap Gains Tax Hike Would Put US Rate Among Highest in World
  • Poll: 80% See Border Disaster, Want Trump Closure Restored, Reject Teaching Critical Race Theory
  • Crime is becoming one of America’s biggest political issues
  • Portland Begs People to Come Back to the City After Months-Long Riots, Rising Crime
  • Los Angeles Crime Wave Hits Wealthy Neighborhood in Deadly Shootout
  • Sheriff in George Floyd Case Blows Up BLM and Leftists with the Truth About Minneapolis Crime
  • Chicago’s crime epidemic is exploding as Biden focuses on gun control

Ah, music to my ears.

The Democrats dynamited their own cities and now they can’t understand why they’re in ruins.  They told the white population that the only way to fix the racial divide is to indoctrinate their children with poisonous lies about how horrible their parents and ancestors are.  And now they can’t understand why these parents are up in arms to stop this.  They spent a year demonizing the police and celebrating the railroading of an officer for a murder he didn’t commit and they’re shocked, shocked that the cops are just going to stand back and watch the black underclass rob and beat their urban neighbors.  They single out their pet minorities, blacks and LGBTQ weirdos, and lavish attention and special privileges on them and wonder why the rest of the country feels no allegiance to this pathetic regime.  They locked up their populations for a year without any measurable savings in lives and now they don’t understand why people don’t trust the “science.”  They turned their cities into prison camps with roving mobs burning and looting at will with no recourse to police and they wonder why no one is returning from the suburbs and beyond.  And after all this they’re confused by the fact that their re-election prospects are dismal.

It’s impossible to say whether the stupid party will seize upon the perfect opportunity to tar the Democrats with all these disasters.  But without a doubt America is not being led by Creepy Joe.  The only way to describe the situation we are in is occupation.  And that’s good enough for now.  No one is talking about compromise, rapprochement, reconciliation or bipartisanship.  Everyone is looking for push back and resistance.  And I think the chief feeling I detect is anger.  We want Creepy Joe to fail.  Even if it means economic disaster and social upheaval we want the country to reject everything the Democrats do.  We want the blue states to suffer the consequences of what they’ve brought on.  I’d like to see New York and Chicago and Minneapolis and especially Portland reduced to a burned-out shell where all the normal people have fled and the street thugs are reduced to preying on each other for food.

All around I see anger and hatred at a country that has been betrayed.  And right now, that’s good enough.
