Lower the Lifeboats!

I was thinking about writing yet another post about just how demented Joe Biden is when I couldn’t do it.  I felt like a guy standing on a sinking ship with water up to his neck screaming, “The ship is sinking!”  Sure, it would be a demonstrably true statement but what he should be screaming is, “Head for the lifeboats!”

And that’s where I think we are.  It’s time to stop pointing at the federal government and screaming that it’s illegitimate and instead start putting together a shield against it.  Now theoretically that would be the Republican Party but I won’t make you laugh or cry by saying that.  We need a new organization to coordinate activities and goals across the whole range of red state governments and other organizations that can resist the malevolent actions of the Left coming at us from Washington and all the resonant power structures it leads in the public and private spheres.

This organization must have the purpose of leading the efforts to save the freedoms of the people of the United States of America.  It will be funded by those people to identify and facilitate the actions needed and assist the agents who could perform these actions.  Specifically, the leadership of this organization needs to formulate legislation to be adopted on the state level and wherever possible on the federal level and coordinates with the state leaders to get it enacted.  In my mind the heads of this organization will include many of these state leaders as its executive board.  In addition, I can see this organization passing on marching orders to the congressional Republicans and in fact applying pressure to these senators and representatives to toe the line with the clear understanding that deviation from the program will result in negative publicity and a primary challenge at the next election.  And along with this stick they can use the carrot of campaign financing to assure compliance.

In essence I’m talking about a new political organization.  It doesn’t have to field any separate candidates.  They can run as Republicans.  But the important thing is that this organization doesn’t care what Mitch McConnell wants or Kevin McCarthy or even for that matter Donald Trump.  It must be answerable to the people who send in a hundred dollars or even five dollars.  It must be answerable to the people who don’t want to have to wear a mask to go to work or go to school.  It’s answerable to the people that don’t want a thing like BLM or antifa to exist.  But the most important attribute it must possess is effectiveness.  It must win victories for our people.  It must be smart enough to select targets that it can defeat.  And it must be able over time to show significant progress against the almost endless assaults that people in this country have been prey to for almost seventy years now.

I’ll leave it to some clever people to give it a name and a symbol.  It could be the Constitutional Party or the MAGA Party or the “Enough is Enough” Party.  But whatever we call it and whoever starts it, whether Donald Trump or some other billionaire or even if all the best governors like DeSantis and Abbott and whoever else get together to spark this fire it needs to start organizing the scattered resistance we see now into something effective and powerful and permanent.  Because if no one mans the lifeboats we’re gonna go down with this sinking ship.

11SEP2021 – OCF Update

What a beautiful day.  Late summer has an amazing feel to it.  There’s almost a stillness.  As if it’s a pause before the descent.  Most of the plants are still alive but they’re almost ready to give up.  I walked around the yard and the gardens and the woods.  Sort of fixing it in my mind’s eye before the leaves change color and the flowers all dry up.

I thought about writing a 9/11 post today and decided not to.  Maybe a different day I’ll have something worth saying but today I’d rather not even think about it.  It’s too bitter.

I’m very curious to see what kind of trouble Biden tries to make for DeSantis.  That should be pivotal to where all of this will be going.  Will we endure a forever pandemic or will the free areas break free of the charade and move on?

I hope everyone enjoys this beautiful day and puts it to some good use.  I’ve got to take apart a pen that we were using for an outdoor rabbit enclosure.  Petey boy nipped one of the grandkids so out he went.  I’m glad he’s gone.  He was a loafer who didn’t pull his own weight around here.  But for Camera Girl’s sake I kept it to myself.  Let this be an object lesson to the hamster and the guinea pigs.  You are expendable.  So toe the line.

Biden Vs. DeSantis

I watched Biden’s old man’s rant against people who don’t want to be vaccinated.  Then I watched Ron DeSantis’s rebuttal.  My first comment is Ron DeSantis comes off as a leader and Joe Biden comes off as a demented liar.  And by the way, Joe would be a liar even if he hadn’t already slipped into late-stage senility.  He’s always favored bold lies.  But whoever is writing his speeches seems completely unconcerned with either truth or even the appearance of credibility.

Joe has stripped away the mask and is now dictating unconstitutional controls over the lives of all Americans.  He is dictating the medicines we take and forcing us to walk around with our mouth and nose covered regardless of how that will affect us physically and emotionally.  He has become the embodiment of Orwell’s dark vision of the future “1984.”

Ron DeSantis talks like a representative of the people of his state and he has carefully staked out a position that addresses the actual problems and allows him to offer all the citizens of his state choices that they can decide between.  First off, he was ahead of the curve getting safeguards in place to protect the large elderly population in Florida from a virus that was primarily a threat to their age group.  And he worked hard to make vaccines available to all the people who wanted them.  But he also made a point to protect the people who didn’t want the vaccines and didn’t want their lives disrupted.  He hasn’t force people to wear masks.  He hasn’t closed down restaurants and theaters and stadiums.  In fact, he’s gone the extra mile and made sure there were laws in place to protect Floridians from corporations and local governments who would lock down these businesses and enforce a mask mandate.

And he’s earned the ire of the media because of it.  During the Delta Variant spike, the news companies have been keeping up a drumbeat counting deaths and taking the side of teachers’ unions and school boards who want to force small children to wear masks to placate the teachers who in some cases aren’t even willing to be vaccinated themselves.  This is a guy who is planning a strategy to show his citizens that there is an alternative to shutting down a country and hiding under your bed.  He’s showing that Fauci and Cuomo and now Biden are lazy idiots who don’t have the sense to try and adapt to a bad situation in a way that doesn’t punish people for trying to live their lives.  He’s smart and he’s got some courage.  What I see is a man who is auditioning for one of the top two spots in the next administration.

It’s no surprise that Joe Biden sounds like a liar and an incompetent trying to shift blame to anybody but himself.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he resigns relatively soon.  But his replacement is almost as bad.  She’s an unlikable shrew with absolutely no ability to speak to reporters and not much in the way of brains.  So, if Joe quits it’s a case of “out of the frying pan and into the fire” for the Democrats.  Three years of Harris should be enough to throw the election to Trump even if the fraud machines are running at full speed.

What I’m interested in is what kind of cabinet DeSantis could provide to either himself or Donald Trump.  Trump had almost no one working for him who was both competent and loyal.   Mike Pompeo and Mike Flynn were probably the only exceptions I can think of.  If DeSantis has built up a core of good men who can run the departments of the federal government, then we might see some real progress in draining the swamp in Washington.  I don’t mean to get too far ahead of myself but it is tempting to imagine that experienced government administrators would have a much better chance of hitting the ground running than just random Republican hacks borrowed from the think tanks and the former George W. Bush administration.

Maybe Ron DeSantis has the right stuff.  It will be interesting to see how he copes with what Dementia Joe and the Swamp will throw at him starting today.  I wish him every success.  Because his success would be our good fortune.

How Well Does a Bio-Weapon Age?

COVID-19 has been banging around for a couple of years now.  When it first hit the street, it did a number on Europe and North America but less damage in Africa, Asia and South America.  In 2021 the “Delta Variant” began killing off significant numbers of Brazilians and Indians.  And after the vaccination of the entire world the virus is still taking its tithe.

I decided I wanted to take a look at what’s going on to have something to compare to what the Great Half-Wit Liar had to say last night.  First off, he said that the great unwashed who haven’t been vaccinated are the Great Satan.  Apparently, they are filling up the ICU beds that otherwise could be used for the victims of amateur silicone buttocks enhancement mishaps.  But he also wanted to clarify that vaccinations are highly effective.  And that he would make sure that the private sector would be unleashed to punish anyone who didn’t get vaccinated.  And he also said we’d all be wearing masks again.  And, once again, if we do all the things he asks we can go back to our normal lives.

Put all that together and you have a totally incoherent set of claims and requirements.  If vaccines are highly effective why are vaccinated people wearing masks?  And if they’re highly effective why did the Delta Variant cause a spike in cases and deaths?  And if they’re highly effective why are vaccinated people catching and transmitting COVID?

And finally, why should we believe that he’s going to let us go back to our normal lives after he told us that same exact thing six months ago?

So, that’s all part one.  Joe is trying to make this thing happen and the biggest threat is Florida.  If Florida manages to ignore him and return to normal life it will be the biggest thumb in the eye to his presidency since the Kabul Catastrophe.  So, I assume Joe will go after DeSantis hammer and tongs.  Ron, you have my full sympathy and prayers for success.

Part Two:

Assuming that COVID-19 was a bio-weapon that accidentally got out of the lab, what is its future?  Well, so far, it’s doing pretty well.  It kills about ten times as many people as the common flu.  It tends to kill the same people who usually die from the flu.  It just kills them more efficiently.  It is harvesting the very old and the chronically ill.  It overcomes those with less ability to manage the respiratory tract symptoms.  The fact that it kills the old and weak explains to me why it attacks first-world countries harder.  I’m guessing there aren’t as many ninety-year-old Nigerians or Ghanaians.  For that matter the third world probably doesn’t have as many chronically ill people.  They tend to die earlier there.

So, this bio-weapon isn’t an extinction event but it is killing millions of people.  And the first major variant is still lethal in the same way as the original strain.  And as has been noted about corona viruses, the mutant strains are not well protected against by a vaccine for the original strain.  What about the Mu Variant?  Maybe it’s just as virulent and just as hard to protect against as the Delta Variant.  In that case we’ll see another spike in the winter.  And unless the COVID mutations start losing their potency we’ll see this COVID season happening every year and carrying away ten times as many people as the flu virus.

What would that look like?  Well, it might resemble our world back before we had antibiotics.  Back then pneumonia was much more serious situation.  The mortality rate was probably from ten to a hundred times higher than it is today.

Or it might trigger the medical community to make the same effort they did during the AIDS epidemic and find a reliable treatment that allowed most of the old and sick people to survive the onslaught of COVID.  I would assume that is the preferrable route for us to take.  But with Dementia Joe calling the shots maybe it’s too much to ask for.

But the other thing to remember is that these viruses do tend to mutate away from high lethality.  If that occurs then COVID might end up being a flu-like disease and would go back to being a background part of the human epidemiological environment.

Let’s see what November brings.  If the deaths shoot back up to a couple of thousand deaths of Americans a day, then COVID may be a permanent part of our lives.  In which case I’d say don’t bank on living to ninety anymore.  You’d be bucking the odds.
