19DEC2020 – OCF Update

The Christmas season is upon us here and it is taking its toll on my writing schedule.  But I’ll crank somethings out as soon as something interesting catches my attention.  In the meantime I’ll be providing movie, music and book reviews as I finish them.

The election and its aftermath are the big question on everyone’s mind but I’m already focusing on how the two camps in our country will begin dealing with each other.  I’m expecting that there will be a reaction to the election fraud in some major way.  The idea of a new party is one version but some kind of organization will be needed and also a clear plan for making the needed changes to who represents us.  I’m also interested to see who step up to become the leaders of our new movement.  President Trump, of course will be in the forefront.  But what needs to be seen is who are the leaders for the future.  We also need governors and senators who aren’t losers.  No more McCains, no more Romneys.  And we need new media that won’t lie to us and stifle our voices.

On a personal note Christmas Eve and Christmas are shaping up nicely with Lasagna on the Eve and a Roast for Christmas.  And it looks like we won’t have bitterly cold weather but actually quite warm (50’s).  And I assume all you folks out there are spending less time on-line and more time with your holiday plans too.

So hang in there and I’ll have some interesting content soon.

17DEC2020 – OCF Update

And so actual winter in cursed New England begins for real.

17DEC2020 at the Compound

They’re saying by the end we’ll have 8″ to 18.”  Let’s say based on wind drifts that there is maybe eight inches on the ground right now.  That’s an actual snowfall.  Twenty five years ago the people up here were hardy and would just clear what they had to and go to work and school.  Now they cower in place and wait for the weather gods to subside before venturing out in Kill Storm Methuselah or whatever silly name they make up for any kind of weather.

But we are unfazed here.  I am enjoying the bracing air and rejoice in the knowledge that in this normal winter weather, the snow will be dry and relatively easy to throw.  Hope everyone in the Northeast has a safe day, after all, the real challenge around here is the nuts driving around on the bad roads.  Steer into the skid and aim for a really soft looking snow pile.

Vox Populi, Vox Dei – 2020 Style

Well the voting is done and the vote counting was performed using our brand new Dominion Voting System.

It’s a funny thing, last night at 2 am I took this screen shots.

Early Returns

But when I woke up this morning there had been a surprising amount of activity

Final Certified Results

I was a little skeptical at first because the analytics hadn’t registered all those new votes but then I saw that the caption said that the results were certified and final so I knew it was alright and I felt better then.  Camera Girl is raising a fuss because she is just a poor ignorant peasant girl who doesn’t understand “science.”  She said something about bringing in the military which I don’t claim to believe is an option.  Well, whatever.

But just to show that I’m a reasonable man who can reach across the aisle and all that I’ll sprinkle a few Dementia Joes and Creepy Uncle Joes and even an occasional Groper in Chief and Faux Joe from time to time just to show the lumpen proletariat that I am indeed a man of the people.  Well, I have to get back to my hummingbird tongue juice pool party with the Beijing Boys.  Man, they’re a nice bunch of guys.

Hey, Swalwell, get out of that pool, I saw those bubbles around you.

Finding my Niche in the Underground

In our war with the Left there are many avenues to pursue and many different talents are needed.  And one person may be multi-talented enough to work on several different aspects of the war and others are only able to do one thing.  And some men are great leaders while others really should restrict their efforts to ditch digging.  Now while it has been said that I am first in war, first in peace and first in the hearts of my blog readers, I have to admit that it was I who said it just now and it has yet to catch on with the cool kids.  So, I have been thinking of late where exactly I think I can do the most good in this forever war.

The results of the recent election debacle have convinced me that the war between the Left and Right will be very long and inconclusive for the rest of my life.  And since life is short, I think I’ve decided what I’ll do in the war.  If we’re not going to fade out by attrition, we need to build a social organization that in addition to allowing us the ability to surround ourselves with normal people will also attract the young people away from the current on-line death trap that the Left has built.

I have been giving a little thought to how something like a fraternal organization would have to work under the conditions we are constrained by.  It will be made up of local off-line chapters that will have to be invitation only.  The on-line aspect can be a coordination function along with a way to share information and pass along things that have worked and not worked.

My idea is to try and form such a local group and use it as a model for others to copy.  I’m trying to decide how many men are needed to form a council that will steer the group and what is the optimal size for the whole chapter.  I think the council will be organized around meetings that coincide with a rotating poker game.  And the venue can be fixed because I have a big basement with a pool table and room for at least twenty or thirty people (of course not all in the same game) but the other members of the council can rotate the responsibility for bringing the food and drinks.

From my point of view the trick is selecting activities that will attract the younger people.  What we are primarily interested in is attracting young men in the 18 to 35 age group and in order to do this successfully we’ll need a way to attract women in the same age group to some aspect of the organization.  This is much trickier.  In the old days you could sponsor a dance or a picnic and that would draw young people.  Maybe that is still a viable idea but it might just as easily be rock climbing or hiking or a landscape photography outing.  Maybe we could even get involved in self defense classes and who knows I could even sponsor a literary society.  But however we do it we’ll have to find a way to pre-select for the kind of people we are interested in.  I was going to try to make some contacts in the more traditional churches to locate good people.

And to be blunt we are also going to have to figure out a way to deselect any members or associated folks who turn out to be incompatible with the tenets of the club.  And that is something that the council will have to work on, the rules.  I have some ideas but until I try this thing out on other people, I don’t know what will be the reaction.  And I think there will be plenty of flexibility on how things get done as long as it can’t get away from the original intent and end up like all the other converged organizations like the Boy Scouts and the other mainstream clubs.

One idea that I heard espoused before was to have our membership join some established organization and form a group within a group.  That way we could leverage the advantages of an established entity like their resources and presence but figure out ways to accommodate our membership.  I kind of like the club within a club idea.  The same approach might work with schools and even work places.

You all know I want to call it the He Man Woman Haters’ Club but that name may be copyrighted.  So, I’ve asked a lawyer friend how I can find out if the name is available for use.  It has a such a good ring to it and gets to the heart of what’s wrong with America today.

Now here’s the rub.  COVID.  How do you do any of this in New England right now?  Well you don’t.  But what I can do is start working out the who, what and where questions now so that I can get rolling once they’ve let us out of our cages.  So that’s my plan.  What do you think?

What Do We Call the Lying Sack of Crap?

I have a favor to ask of the readership.  We may be forced to reference Joe Biden often over the next few years and I’d like to have a nice punchy name for him that will stand the test of time.  I’ve been test driving the lengthy but amusing “lying sack of crap” and confess I do find it fun.  But being a man of the people, I plan to have a vote.  And I intend to do it without fraud.  I will provide a list of names that are either already out there or I come up with and readers can vote for any of these choices or provide a write in vote in the comments section of that post.  The winner will be acclaimed as the official OCF derogatory title for Joe Biden.

I can’t make up my mind whether the most important aspect of Joe is his stupidity, his dishonesty or his offensive personal habits.  He is a triple threat.  If you have multiple favorites you can select more than one.

Let’s get to it.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

10DEC2020 – OCF Update – Things That I Am Trying to Figure Out

Output’s been slow the last day or so because I’ve been working on some bigger fish.  I’m starting an sf&f book that I’ve been kicking around for a while.  It’s sort of a combination of sf and fantasy.  It always gets blurry when you start adding multiverses and immortals.  And that’s fine as far I’m concerned.  If you consider the ramifications of things like quantum superposition then it’s hard to say that reality draws a clear line between science and magic.  But it’s been fun and I’m making pretty good progress on both the outline and the beginning of the book.  But it has cut into my blogging time lately.

Also, I’ve been trying to do a little more analytical thinking about our present political situation.  We may have reached the point where yelling at the top of our lungs for people to wake up is no longer a useful task.  I think everyone who isn’t stupid or evil has acknowledged that our government is hopelessly compromised against us.  We need to switch gears and now focus on concrete plans to change the status quo.

And guess what, that’s not the easiest thing in the world to figure out.  It’s not just one thing.  It’s a million things.  We are up against an almost monolithic structure that is intent on destroying our way of life.  Individual defensive and offensive actions against such an opponent are so microscopically weak that they border on futility.  It’s obvious that organization is the key to expanding our impact.  But what organizations exist and which can you trust?

That is the kind of research I’ve been doing and it takes a lot of time and doesn’t provide instant results.  But there is no way of getting around the analysis.  So even though I enjoy ranting and raving and even though I think there is value in providing moral support and personal testament on the day-to-day events in the news I’m also looking to find answers to the questions we all have.  Is there an organization that is making progress against our enemies?  Is there an organization that can help us if we are attacked?  Is there a resource for finding allies in the different activities of our lives?  Such as religion, education, family activities, entertainment, sports, literature, professional societies, legal help, political organizing.  What corporations are on our side, or at least have made a point to remain neutral?  What news or social media companies will cater to us?  If any of you have done similar searches feel free to leave something in the comments that will provide a lead in my search.

I know this is a very long-term project so I try to keep it from dominating my day.  But at the same time, sometimes I have to follow a white rabbit pretty far down a hole to find out if he’s real or not.  So that’s what I’ve been busy with lately.  And I have the real-life stuff going on like all of you.  Christmas is coming up and we have things to take care of, and end of year stuff to attend to.  There are the young who need to be taught and the old who need to be remembered.  And Camera Girl is there to roll her eyes and shake her head in disapproval and attend to the ordering of her domestic universe, which she believes gives her authority over all of my world.  Hah!

Getting into the Christmas Spirit in 2020

With all the horror that 2020 has provided I thought it would be extremely difficult to enjoy my annual ritual of watching my favorite holiday movies.  Just to start it off correctly I watched both the 1951 and 1984 movie versions of “A Christmas Carol.”  Surprisingly, I enjoyed them even more than I did last year under much less trying circumstances.  The scenes with Scrooge after his repentance are exactly what I needed to start enjoying the holidays the way I like to.  Surrounded by the squalor of the election fraud and the forced isolation of the COVID overreaction I needed to see scenes of joy and heartfelt emotion to wake my spirit up to the feelings of the season.

Wherever we are, even those of us locked down in this sad sham of an epidemic, we have many friends and loved ones that we can reach by phone or e-mail or by sending a little gift with a card.  Doing that will relieve some of the isolation and it will do a great deal of good for both the recipient and you.

And even if you are completely alone, maybe you can make a special meal for yourself and read a good book or watch a pleasant movie and reminisce about better times and look forward to better times to come.  Life ebbs and flows.  There are bound to be highs and lows.  This is a low point.  It will improve.  But letting Christmas pass without acknowledging it would make it even worse.  And I’m definitely not saying people should spend a lot of money or go through elaborate preparations for a party that no one will be attending.  Far from it.  One of few advantages that the present situation provides us is extra time for reflection.

We all rush through life without considering if we’re missing the bigger point.  Children grow quickly and people age without us realizing it.  We drift in and out of the lives of friends and then we’re left standing at a funeral wondering what happened to the time.  There’s definitely room for re-ordering priorities and reaching out to those we’ve lost track of.

When the world is going to hell in a handbasket is probably the best time to get your own life into better shape.  And the natural time to do that is at the end of the year.  Christmas and New Year are the perfect time to reflect and not just on the negatives.  Even those of us going through extremely hard times can take some solace from memories of the better times.  Those good things were real and we did enjoy them.  Remembering that joy can get you through some tough days.  Reliving it with someone who was also there makes it even better.

I come from a large family that truly relishes dark humor.  We reminisce about the most awful circumstances that we lived through together.  But this year I’ll look to remind them of some of the happier things that came with growing up in a large family.  If nothing else we can celebrate that we’ve beaten the odds and are all still alive and relatively healthy.  And we’ve got kids and grandkids too.  None of us is starving and there isn’t even a really strong feud going on in the sibling group which is pretty remarkable for us.  We won’t be getting together for Christmas which will break a decades long tradition.  But we can have a video conference and we can exchange presents and greetings.  That will help.

So, this is long enough.  My advice to everyone out there is don’t let the bastards get you down.  Make an effort to revive your Christmas spirit and I’ll bet it will be well worth your effort.

06DEC2020 – OCF Update

Sorry if things are a little slow this weekend with the posts, I’ve been enjoying the New England weather.

This weekend we have been blessed with an early December snow storm.  And even though it’s not the first snow of the season this was the first legitimately annoying snow of the year.  That’s because it was one of our trifecta storms.  It starts with a typhoon of rain, then it shifts to sleet and ends with a good think layer of snow.  When you get that combination it is delightfully heavy and certain to cause back ache, heart palpitations and exhaustion.  And it requires two separate removal operations.  Once the sleet ends and the snow begins in earnest you have to remove the slushy layer before it turns into a bottom layer of rock-like ice.  So you spend several hours (depending on the size of your driveway and parking area) shoveling and slinging slush and that is the heaviest snow there is.  And unfortunately snow blowers really don’t handle slush very well so this has to be done with the good old snow shovel.

Then you wait until the storm is over and remove the snow.  But unfortunately there is always an ice layer at the bottom even after the initial slush removal step so this is never as easy as a dry snowstorm.  It rained here on Friday through to Saturday morning.  The sleet started early and the snow began at 10 am.  I spent about three hours on Saturday slinging slush.  The snow was over by Sunday morning and I got to work again and finished up by 2 pm today.  Global warming, my foot.

So I’m behind on my writing but I haven’t heard about anymore snow coming anytime soon so I’ll catch up pretty quickly.  Maybe the lousy weather is why New Englanders are such perverse creatures.  They want to share their misery with everyone and being experts they do a thorough job.

Not So Black Friday

I was going to write a post on thriving in the Woke World but I went back and saw that I’ve written that post at least once before.  Instead I decided to look and see what was going on around me.

I woke up this morning and felt like I always do on the day after Thanksgiving.  I felt like I ate way too much rich food.  So, I had a cup of coffee and a bagel and looked over the news.  I saw all the stuff I saw yesterday.  Election legal challenges and noise about Biden’s picks for a cabinet, COVID studies and vaccine speculation, big tech censoring and conservatives complaining.  All the same old stuff we’ve been seeing forever.  Nothing I felt like talking about there.

Later on, as I felt a little less like a stuffed museum exhibit, I asked Camera Girl if she wanted to go for a walk in the local state park.  It’s about a mile or two down the road and has a paved road that penetrates into the forest to allow fisherman to access the lakes inside the park.  There are streams and forested hills and scenic stuff as far as the eye can see.  There is also a half dozen picnic grounds and parking areas.  We like going there because even when there is ice on the wooded paths the blacktop thaws quickly and gives us a good walking path until winter is completely in control of the weather.

So anyway, she agreed and we parked and started walking.  With my usual confidence I announced to her that it was so quiet because nobody was up and around after Thanksgiving.  Two minutes later we passed the first parking lot and there were at least fifteen cars and I could see someone cooking on a charcoal grill.  Ah, my psychic powers.

As we walked along, we could see that the place was pretty crowded.  Eventually we started passing people walking in the other direction.  Couples, people walking with dogs, families with kids, families with three generations, you name it.  And as we got within talking distance we’d smile, wave, say hi.  After about a dozen such interactions we looked at each other and read each other’s minds.  What struck both of us was that people without masks were friendly and greeted us with a smile and the people wearing masks were surly and unfriendly.  For clarification neither of us were wearing masks but we never got within the COVID magic six-foot circle of death of the other walkers.

And when we looked at the people who were barbecuing none of them were wearing masks and they seemed to be having a good time.  After that I made sure that whenever I passed the masked marauders, I was especially cheerful and demonstrative.  I’m sure it annoyed them terribly.

By the time we got back to our car I felt a whole lot better about the day.  There are plenty of people around who are just tolerating this COVID nonsense without drinking the Kool-Aid.  And they are attempting to enjoy their lives despite it.  And the true-believers looked pretty damn miserable from where I was standing.  Maybe this whole COVID cult is its own punishment.  But maybe it’s just an act and they are really just signaling their virtue in case someone from the security apparatus is filming them for the quarterly report.  Either way I can see that it will be pretty easy in this Brave New World to find the good people.  They’ll be the ones who look like they’re actually happy to be alive.  By this you will know them.

24NOV2020 – OCF Update

First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to all of my fellow Americans out there.  I know we’re all living through the horrors that the Left has cooked up for us.  The lockdowns, the rampaging psychopaths and finally the fraudulent election plot.  It may seem insane to even talk about a happy anything but I refuse to let these horrible people rob me and my family of at least part of the joy that the holiday is supposed to provide.  My family gathering won’t be as large as some years but it will still be joyous and include children and grandchildren and a whole lot of turkey and other fattening food.  I hope to introduce my two year old granddaughter to the March of the Wooden Soldiers, Gulliver’s Travels and the art of getting the larger piece of the wishbone during the contest.  So please make sure to have some joy on Thursday even if it has to be by phone or video call.  After all generations of Americans have had to delay gatherings because of war and other emergencies.  We can hope that the present travesty will be ended some time in the near future if for no other reason than because a vaccine is imminent.

Secondly, I want to say that content may be a little sparse here because of all this merrymaking.  I intend to put out posts as often as possible but usually there is a lull in news and in web traffic during the holidays so the resource and the need may both lag to some degree.  But I intend to put up various reviews of movies, tv shows, books and other items that I think will be of general interest.  And I will continue to look for content from guest contributors.  So if you have something you’d like to contribute leave a note in the comments and I’ll get back to you.

Thirdly and lastly, I’d like to just address the election situation.  Many gloom and doomers seem extremely eager to throw in the towel.  They call me every day with some latest disaster that they hope will convince me that I must join them in the ranks of the defeated.  I’ve asked several of them whether they’ll get some kind of early bird special bonus for conceding now rather than wait for the actual resolution.  I have to say I really don’t understand why they’re in a hurry to concede the election to Joe Biden.  That seems like a situation that I would want to delay for as long as humanly possible.  But to each his own.  Anyway, I’ll allow President Trump and his legal team all the time they need to plead their case before the Supreme Court.  I think that anyone who claims to know in advance how that decision will be made is mistaken.  My opinion, and it is just that, my opinion, is that the odds are exactly 50/50.  So I’d prefer to enjoy Thanksgiving and let the process play out.  There’s plenty of time to react to the facts on the ground once they are.  So I’ll wait until there’s something interesting to discuss and then I will.
