13FEB2019 – American Greatness Post of the Day – Conrad Black’s The Democrats’ French Dilemma

Conrad Black is a good friend of President Trump.  And he is a very upbeat prognosticator of of our troubled times. But this little historical expedition to the French Revolution and de Gaulle’s 1968 power play are amusing and give an interesting comparison to the madness of the lunatic fringe of the Democrat party.  Of course that fringe now encompasses the whole party so it’s an unusual situation.  Fun to read.

The Democrats’ French Dilemma

Jim Acosta – Symptom of the Times

Watching Jim Acosta at a White House Press Briefing is akin to watching a determined three-year-old asking his mother why.  Initially it’s amusing but eventually it’s unbearable.  The mindlessness of it renders it a form of exquisite torture.  In the three-year-old it’s tolerated because you know it’s a stage in the development of language and social skills.  In an allegedly mature man with a White House Press Pass it’s a symptom of the terminal illness that has infected the American body politic, bloodless civil war.  Acosta is a proxy for the desire of millions of progressives to harass the President of the United States for winning the 2016 presidential election.  He gets to mouth ridiculous complaints about the supposedly unfair statements President Trump makes about the press.  And in his yammering repetition of what he thinks are damning indictments of the current administration we hear an echo of the half-witted chants of Antifa, BLM, Occupy Wall Street and every other neo-marxist street circus going all the way back to the drug addled imbecilic protesters of the 1960s.  Hey hey, ho ho, blah blah blah has got to go.   Hey hey, ho ho, blah blah blah has got to go.  Hey hey, ho ho, blah blah blah has got to go.   Hey hey, ho ho, blah blah blah has got to go…………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Full of sound and fury signifying nothing.

As ZMan is fond of saying “we live in unserious times.”  But in all actuality the stakes are very serious.  A federal judge (and one appointed by President Trump no less) has granted a temporary injunction pending a decision on whether Jim Acosta’s lunacy at White House press conferences is protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.  The duly elected leader of the most powerful state to ever exist is thwarted in his important work of transmitting the proceedings of his administration to the Press by a bleating half-wit with an expensive hair-cut and a power tie.  I’m starting to think that the real victory of the Trump presidency will be when he begins reining in the madness that the Left inflicts on us daily.

There is a school of thought that President Trump supports the daily barrage of leftist insanity as a way to garner sympathy from the American public, that the presence of Acosta actually stokes the anger that guarantees his constituency’s ardor in supporting his causes.  If that is true then I must be outside of his target audience.  I would pay a month’s gross salary to be rid of the likes of Jim Acosta from the daily news feed.  If he were permanently banned from the White House and had to merely comment from the sidelines, I would be supremely pleased.  It would be a solid win.  It wouldn’t change the world but it would be a sign that these lunatics sometimes have to retreat.  So, President Trump, hear my plea.  Don’t just let Jim Acosta win.  Push this all the way to the Supreme Court if need be and strike a blow for baseline sanity.  Prove that this is still in some small way the same place that engendered Washington and Jefferson or for pity’s sake at least Teddy Roosevelt.

The Z-Man Had a Very Interesting Post Yesterday – The Cancer of Fanaticism

The Z-Man posits that the ideologies can differ but the “true believer” is what gives them their strength and their frightening ferocity and consequences.

“The only person I have read, other than myself, who bothered to contemplate the mindset of the typical Nazi, Bolshevik or Progressive was Eric Hoffer. His classic book, The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements, is the field guide to understanding the mind of the political zealot. Over the years I have referenced it many times, when posting about the American Left. Hoffer’s book is not the definitive work, more of a skeleton key to unlock a mode of analysis. It is a starting point in thinking about the Left.”

Very interesting read.

A Crack in the Facebook Wall

The New York Times published a story about a Facebook employee who started an employee group as a protest against the leftist mono-culture at the company.  If you read the article you’ll see that all the charges he makes are reflections of the obvious and pervasive anti-conservative nature of Facebook .  Since I try never to link to the Times I have a derivative article on zero-hedge.  The fact that the New York Times published this item leads me to believe that this group inside Facebook will be the controlled opposition used to allow Facebook to pretend to be tolerant of other points of view.

The only good thing about all this is that it indicates the President is putting at least some pressure on these Silicon Valley  types.  Other than that I’m sure it will be business as usual at FacebookGoogleTwitter.

The ZMan Chronicles the Left’s Descent into Incivility and Madness

The ZMan walks us through his memory of how we got from a country with a civil Left/Right dialog to the 24/7/365 drive-by guerilla warfare that is “dialog” in today’s America.  Well it brings to mind for me Thucydides’ description of the Corcyrean Civil /war and its bloody aftermath.  But honestly, I think the only reason that the left was ever civil was that they were out of power.  Once the Clintons got their claws on power it was game over for civility.

TCM Goes Full Nitwit

Like many right-wing folk I was raised on the movies that were made in the Golden Age of Hollywood.  Many of the movies made in the ‘30s and ‘40s possess a charm and appeal completely lacking in later decades.  They reflect (or maybe echo) qualities of a culture and people that are appealing even to the decadent descendants of that world living in the tattered remains of today.

That’s why even though Robert Osborne, the late host of Turner Classic Movies, was an obvious member of the Hollywood leftist fraternity it was still worth my while to tune in to TCM and watch the films.  For the most part I didn’t even mind listening to him discuss the movies either directly to the tv audience or as a dialog with some other Hollywood boob.  As annoying as it was to hear Osborne discussing aspects of the film with the likes of Alec Baldwin or Sally Field it was still bearable for the most part.  Osborne rarely went full tilt commie during these discussions so the tooth gritting quotient was still acceptable.

As Osborne aged, management must have decided that they needed a succession plan.  To this end they installed an auxiliary host in the person of Ben Mankiewicz.  Ben is the grandson of a Hollywood screenwriter and a strident leftist who appeared alongside the “Young Turks” during the 2016 presidential election results while they were melting down on camera.  Occasionally his moonbattery has been on display but like Osborne he was usually able to keep his affliction under control.

Well, last month Osborne died.  I guess Mankiewicz is nominally the host now.  But several new hosts have been trotted out.  Diversity, of course, is being touted in the choice of genders and races on display for these new hosts and based on the complete lack of name or face recognition associated with them I’m guessing they are essentially unknowns and therefore extremely economical employees for TCM to utilize.  Well, what can you do?  It’s not as if Osborne was any big star.  I think his claim to fame was that he knew some of the golden age actresses personally and was able to get them to appear on the show for interviews.  These new hosts blather on from their points of view but they’re not that much worse than the old act.

But now we’re reaching a new level of abuse.  Tonight, the presentation of “The Bad and the Beautiful” was co-hosted by Alec Baldwin and David Letterman.  Now this is a level of toxic television viewing that I would compare with having to listen to Sauron chatting with Saruman about the latest advances in orc breeding.  We have reached the limit.  I assume a meltdown is imminent.  It will probably occur during a John Wayne western and will involve words like imperialism, cultural appropriation, patriarchy and racial genocide.  At that point, I’ll either have to cancel TCM or shove my foot through the LED screen.

To combat the sense of loss I feel at having to cede yet another familiar cultural facet to the leftist demolition brigade I have decided to add classic movie reviews as a regular part of this blog.  In the past I have endeavored to mix in a few sci-fi and western movies into my normal “current events” posts.  Going forward I propose to increase them and expand the selection to golden age and equivalent quality later films that I think will be of interest to my readers (and you know who you are!).

So farewell Robert Osborne, you were a mostly benign lefty host of TCM.  You are sorely missed now that we know what’s coming next.
