Divergence Instead of Diversity

According to the Left, America is becoming more diverse.  Of course, they don’t do a very good job defining that word.  If all they mean is that the earlier European American population is becoming a smaller fraction of the total population then that is true.

Since that change is being advanced as a tactic to balkanize the population and build a voting coalition at the expense of this earlier demographic grouping then it has to be realized that this diversity is not a strong basis for long term unity but rather a weapon of convenience that will be altered to accommodate whatever changes in the electoral calculus are required.

One thing the tactic has achieved is to reveal to many Americans just how insubstantial are the rights and benefits that those in charge supposedly guarantee to us.  But this knowledge has revealed that there are two different populations inhabiting this country.  And I don’t base that on ethnicity or skin color.  Because you can see both populations in all the various groups.

I would define the dichotomy like this.  There are a lot of people, especially the younger generations who will go along with whatever the government and other power centers in our society tell them to do.  I’m not saying all of them are happy about it but a lot of them seem to be.  Either way, they’ll wear a mask or drive an electric car or eat bugs or anything else they’re told to do.  These are the people voting for Joe Biden.  And then there are those who don’t.  These are the two populations that make up the United States of America.

And I do not think that these two groups will coalesce again into one group.  In fact, I think the divide is only growing wider.  This is because there are appearing different areas on the map where the local conditions approximate the practices that one or the other of these two groups favor.  So, California is almost a cartoonish stereotype of how the Leftist paradise would be run.  Nuclear power plants are being shut down.  Gasoline engines have been outlawed.  Pediatric transitioning is enforced against the will of parents.  It’s a perfect dysfunctional progressive madhouse.

And places like Florida are taking active steps to push back against these very same woke policies.  And what we see is people fleeing from places like California and moving to Florida and Texas.  What we seem to be seeing is people self-selecting into two populations.  They’re separating because these issues provide a binary choice based on the fundamental beliefs of all people.

It’s as if these two populations have a difference in polarity.  The same environment can attract those who have a positive charge but repel those with a negative charge.  And currently the polarity between the two groups is growing.  The paths they are on are diverging and unless some very powerful force intercedes, I think they will be essentially two different nations.  As different as Slovakia and the Czech Republic are.

Now as to the racial and ethnic components of these two diametrically opposed areas, I think it is far from determined how each of these groups would end up dividing themselves between these jurisdictions.  Questions of economic opportunity and government policies would have a huge impact but in general I would think that the same fundamental differences would tend to polarize people based on their innate values regardless of race.

Now the intercession of a powerful force that could force these two populations to remain together is obviously intervention of the federal government.  The analogy of the Civil War forcing the Confederacy back into the Republic is the obvious one.  Even the introduction of an enormous immigrant population is duplicated between the present age and the Civil War era.  But there are also differences.  The United States back then was a dynamic expansionist nation leveraging technological and scientific innovation to produce unheard of wealth and opportunity.  Currently we are a country in decline with a philosophy that favors shrinking all aspects of human endeavor.  A defeatist ethic and self-loathing define the Left’s approach to life.  However, the people repelled by this viewpoint would be the ones trying to break away from this defeatist entity.  It might prove a completely different outcome this time around.

To sum it up, the Left and Right are forming different, almost opposite groups within the United States of America and there is a very definite possibility that this divergence will lead to separate geographical areas where the laws and activities will be extremely different and people will self-segregate based on the system they innately prefer.

Caffeine is a Powerful Drug

I love coffee.  I love the taste of it, the aroma, the way it enhances the enjoyment of various foods.  A cup of coffee with ham and eggs and a pumpernickel bagel is splendid.  A pastrami or corned beef or roast beef sandwich with coffee is incredible.  And what could be better than coffee with cake, pastry or pie ala mode?  Nothing!

It is a wonderful part of life.  At the same time coffee is very hard on my digestive system.  It gnaws at my guts.  It is not benign.

So, what’s a fellow to do?

For years I searched for the magic bullet.  Milder blends, better blends cold brewed.  Milk, cream, fat free cream, oat milk and on and on and on.

And several times I’ve given it up.  And that is an amazing thing.  I remember going cold turkey in my thirties and experiencing symptoms that were more reminiscent of heroin withdrawal.  I had the shakes and broke into a cold sweat and had blinding headaches.  Truly absurd problems getting rid of something as innocuous as the morning cup of joe.

And equally interestingly, even after getting past the physical symptoms, I eventually drifted back into the habit.  After all, I love the stuff.

A couple of months ago I decided to do something I considered smart.  I switched from coffee to tea.  And I was able to do it relatively painlessly.  The caffeine in tea apparently was sufficient to offset at least partly the craving my body has for coffee.  Maybe there were some mild feelings of discomfort for a day or two but really nothing to think about.  So, there you go.  Mission accomplished.

But I didn’t reckon with one thing.  Tea is the most boring drink in the world.  There’s no there, there.  So, I tried to jazz it up.  I tried Thai tea and chai tea.  I added sugar and honey and lemon.  Nothing.  Insipid.

In desperation, I asked Camera girl to start me on cocoa.  We tried 100% cocoa.  Not so good.  Then we tried some versions with varying amounts of sugar.  Too sweet.  Finally, we hit upon a low concentration that isn’t too sweet but still has enough taste to qualify as a beverage.  And so, we thought we had arrived at a workable solution.  But something happened.

Camera Girl and I were out for the day for an out of state family party.  I had breakfast with my now customary thin cup of chocolate.  No problem.  When we arrived, it was early afternoon and I wasn’t starving.  So, I sat down and was talking to some people.

And it was the strangest thing.  I couldn’t think.  I was stumbling over words and thoughts like Joe Biden without a teleprompter.  It was the damnedest thing.  And then I realized, I was completely out of caffeine.  Now granted I was also low on food at that point.  So maybe I needed blood sugar or something.  But I was so groggy that I am convinced that I now need a certain specific amount of caffeine in my body just to keep my IQ in triple digits.

I asked my host if he had any coffee or tea around.  All he had at that moment was Red Bull.  Well, it was like some miracle drug.  Within moments I was back to normal.  Later on, I had a large cup of coffee at dessert with my large piece of cake.  Of course, I couldn’t get to sleep until 3 a.m. but what can you do.

So now I’m once again in a quandary.  Do I endure the “enstupiding” whenever I’m low on caffeine or do I cave into the lure of coffee?  I stand on the edge of the cliff.  May I find wisdom.

08JUL2023 – This is Horrifying

Beyond child abuse.  Approaching psychopathic evil.

Do You Just Put Quantum in Front of Everything?

H/T to Hans G. Schantz.

Is the Universe really all just one thing?  Huh?

“If we do find evidence to support this idea, it would dramatically alter the way we conceive of the cosmos. It would mean we could not only see a world in a grain of sand, as the poet William Blake once said, but we could also quite literally see the entire universe in its tiniest pieces and particles. While this might sound like just a different way of going about physics, it is much more than that. I believe that we are on the way to a completely new understanding of how the universe is put together.”

What will this do to Ant Man?

08JUL2023 – This ‘N’ That

The Raven is a Wicked Bird

Yesterday marks a minor milestone.  Last night I posted the last of the 2022 Yellowstone Expedition photographs.  Now, this is a relative statement.  That was a first pass.  Also I have some flower photos that I’m holding off until I can identify them (hopefully).  But interstingly it marks about a year since the actual trip took place.  From now on the photo of the day will be a bit more prosaic and local.

Today is a smaller milestone.  For the last eight days I’ve been working on a very cramped schedule.  Parties, grandchildren and minor missions have prevented me from keeping up with the website.  Today is the capstone of this run.  I’ll be out of pocket and out of state for the whole day and even a part of the night.  Which means this site will be destitute.  I don’t even have the photo of the day in queue.

Horrible things could happen today.  Nuclear Armageddon, fluoridation of the water supply, even adoption of the metric system could happen behind my back and no one would ever know because I would not have recorded it.  Ah, well.

But rejoice!  Tomorrow is another day.  And I vow to do better.

Honestly it is the Silly Season and there is no real news.  Or at least the news agencies aren’t reporting anything worth reading.  Sure, there’s some war news and stupid celebrity hijinks.  And there’s always the government taking something away from us but we can wait a week before hearing that.  Even I can’t summon the usual outrage at the moment.

But the good news for us that live on the Arctic Tundra is that right now the days are long and nights are short and the air is hot and our blood is warm.  Even old codgers feel the irritability that tells us we’re still somewhat alive.  We can smell the roses, toss around a baseball with a youngster and appreciate God’s Green Earth for at least one more day.

So with your permission, I’ll exit stage left, pursued by a bear and see you a little later.

President Crackhead

The steamy heat has arrived with a vengeance.  We finally got two sunny days in a row and the mercury (gasp!) exceeded ninety degrees.  Luckily, I’ve finally gotten the pool’s pH, clarity and algae infiltration status (I just made that up) where they belong.  And now the younger grandson cohort has arrived and they threaten to infest the pool with complete abandon.  And afterwards, they’ll demand that Camera Girl produce grilled cheese sandwiches and chocolate milk.  Eventually we’ll head down to the pool table and delve into the mysteries of Euclidean-Newtonian elastic collisions.  But before we get around to that I’ll provide my daily gazette.

Official Washington seems to be fascinated with the West Wing cocaine caper.  Apparently, the FBI and CIA that can use advanced DNA detection technology to solve decades old cold cases can’t identify the owner of the zip-lock bag of cocaine found in the West Wing.  Now that is so transparently absurd that anyone with a modicum of intelligence realizes that everyone knows exactly who was in possession of the bag.  Just as a guess I’d say it’s Hunter’s.  But I’m sure there is a long list of coke heads inhabiting the White House.  The real question is why was the discovery of the coke allowed to see the light of day?

Is this part of an op meant to discredit the Biden re-election or is it meant to give the Republicans some semblance of hope that they can beat Biden in 2024?  Honestly?  I can’t decide and even more importantly I don’t care.  The degeneracy of the Biden regime has never been in doubt.  Everywhere we look in the Biden administration we see corruption and dysfunction.  It’s a freak show.

At the same time that has had exactly zero effect on the political landscape.  Official Washington does exactly as it pleases and it no longer seems to matter how outrageously the regime misbehaves.  So once again, we see the completely separate realities that friends of the regime inhabit versus everyone else.  The IRS tracks every deposit and withdrawal from your bank account that’s more than $600 but Hunter Biden has tens of millions of dollars floating in and out of his accounts and the only consequence is he has to re-file his taxes.  Anarcho-tyranny at its very best.

The only worse example is the difference in how we’re treated with respect to speech.  Here’s a staffer for the present New York City Council who advocated for violence against the police during the George Floyd riots.  She suffered no consequences and currently has a job in government.  Whereas a right-wing Twitter personality was convicted of voter suppression for mocking the intelligence of Democrat voters by tweeting that they could vote by texting.

So why don’t they just give Hunter his coke back.  What possible difference could it make to anyone?  In fact, why don’t we just save time and let Hunter take over his father’s spot on the 2024 Democrat presidential ticket?  I think President Crackhead is exactly what we should have in the White House.  Let’s stop any pretense that we have a democratic process or that the regime even bothers to pretend to care what we think.  What we have to do is find the work-arounds that will allow us to survive in this thugocracy.  And I think moving this thing along makes sense.  Yep, President Crackhead.

Okay, so there’s my black pill for the day.  I’ll try to be more cheerful later.  Meantime I better go spend some time with the kids.  That’s the white pill.

Repent, the End is Nigh!

Siva Vaidhyanathan is a professor of Media Studies at the University of Virginia.  So if he tells me Twitter is doomed then it must be!

His proof:

“How long can this Twitter last? It must be a matter of months away from total collapse. Of course, I’ve been saying that for a year now, and I have no special insight into its financial matters. Now, however, things seem to be in a death spiral that is more than financial. It’s technical. While Musk tried his best to distract critics by blaming artificial intelligence companies allegedly scraping Twitter, a glitch in Twitter itself meant its computers were demanding data from its servers in an infinite loop. So Twitter was killing itself. It seems to be a mercy killing.”

Or maybe he’s just a typical Lefty that doesn’t want to pay eight bucks to get back his blue check mark on Twitter.  Waaa!  Waaa!  Waaa!

A Bud Light Moment for the Gals

A small women’s clothing line that specializes in conservative traditional dresses (see below) decides to associate itself with a “gender fluid” guy with a full beard and he models the company’s cloths and the company embraces these images.

Hey, maybe women are put off of clothing that works to associate its product with a guy with a beard cross-dressing in it.  Especially if it’s traditional women.  Another brilliant marketing move brought to you by the woke alliance.

There’s Chatter That Ukraine Will Blow Up the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant

Several sources are claiming that in the next couple of days Ukraine will launch a false flag attack on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and blame it on the Russians in order to convince NATO to declare war on Russia.  It sounds absurd.  But then again what isn’t absurd in this world?

Do I think it’s likely?  No, but would I be shocked if they did?  No.  This is reminiscent of the Nordstream pipeline attack.  Blame it on the Russians then finally admit it was Ukraine (or maybe us).

The Ukrainian “spring” counter-offensive is not going that well.  The NATO summit is happening next week in Vilnius.  A panic over radiation would allow angry posturing to break out in Vilnius.  Probably unlikely but you never know.
